Looking at this thread again reminded me of something. My buddies and I would make an annual fishing pilgrimage to the Canadian bush every year for a week. The fishing was so good we'd go at it like maniacs! Nonstop, dawn to dusk every single day!

When we'd finally stagger into our own homes, we'd chuck the fishing tackle in the corner and not even want to look at it for a week or two. We were burned out! Eventually we'd get the itch again, and we'd be back out there.

I think the fact that golf is a seasonal thing where I live (NE Ohio), encourages the attitude that you have to cram as much golf into the good weather months as you can!

Agreed-winter cold , snow and closed courses, forces the body to recover.

I have never had the good fortune to play so much golf that I felt burned out.  I did however play so badly one season about 10 years ago that for the next couple of years I played only a few rounds/year and did a lot of fly fishing.  When I got the golf itch again I enjoyed the heck out of practicing and playing.  Not sure that this helps your short term malaise but I would imagine a break of a few days or weeks would have your desire to get back to golf at an all time high.
