Living up north we have just a few months to enjoy the game.. But this past week has been a bit mild and there is one course that allows for 9 holes in winter. So myself and my pal went there to try and it was our first time trying to play in winter with snow on the ground. It was lot of fun but from a game point of view excruciating.. The distances was all over the place.. When we hit down on the ball, the ball actually gets pushed deeper into the ground and then leaps out similiar to wet ground.. In a nutshell, we left with more questions than when we started but had a fun time...

A 2-oz. shot of Jamieson Irish, straight up. It made me feel better since it's too cold to play golf.

Hit 6 beautiful drives in a row on the simulator yesterday ... felt so good I bought the club!!
That's about the best I'll do for a while as it's doubtful we'll see the grass again here in Wisconsin 'til April!

Weird day. Was all over the shop but managed to hole 4 X 25 foot putts on the front nine which I never do. I had my putter shortened to 34" last week and it seems to have done the trick. Also smashed a 317 yard drive (GPS Confirmed) on the last, had been a frustrating day and really opened the shoulders. It went about 60 yards further than we normally hit on that hole. Hit a solid 9 into the green and two putted for Par, nice way to finish on the hardest hole on the course.

Had a good shot today. I hit a drive in the right rough and had 95 yards left to a front pin with wind pretty strong in my face. Turns out I was in hardpan and could not afford to hit it fat at all. Used my new 52 spin milled vokey and hit as pure a shot as I ever hit. I was using a Pro V1 as well. The shot went right up over the tree that was about 50 yards away, landed about 5 feet from the cup and sucked back off the green onto the fringe....

I normally dont put that much spin on the ball, so I was loving it, even though it spun right off the green!

Chipped back to the cup to about 2 inches and tapped in for par......

Great (and cold/windy) round today!

3 month beginning golfer and all ready scored an eagle!!! Crazy drive with a crazy 3wood shot... and I got about 2 feet from the hole on a par 5.

My best shot this week has been on the driving range. I am working on driving down and through the ball (hitting down). I practice this technique on the range and
building muscle memory helps to transfer this move to the course.

Well, its a combination of shots. From 1st hole my Tee shot was pretty bad so I practically gave up on the hole, but somehow my next 3 were awesome landing an 8 iron from 125 yards out 3 feet next to pin, 1 putt in for my first par 5. Rest of the course was lousy, too much full of confidence like I conquered the game

played 3 club tourny. took my 19 deg hybrid, 8 iron, putter. I had a nasty 20 yard chip over a bunker to green that ran hard away down to the cup. I laid open the 8 iron and flopped it to about 3 feet I was pretty impressed with myself.

Definitely on the driving range earlier this week. I took my new Callaway DT5 driver out for the first time and nailed it on the screws first swing. The guy in front of me asked for earplugs, haha!

Not the best shot of yesterdays round but probably the most satisfying. Found the front of the 6th green (short par 3) with an 8 iron and was faced with a long, uphill putt on a soft green. Lagged it up to within tap in range when, I have to admit, I thought I was set to record a 3 putt bogey.

for a really crappy round i actually had some really memorable shots...
best one hands down was my 3h shot...
pulled the crap outta my drive onto an adjacent fw... id say about 180-190 with trees in the way...
i saw a pretty big opening between 2 trees that left me a clear shot at the flag... but to take it thru there id probably hit the green really hot... so i decided to go over the trees...
absolutely perfect shot 10ft under the hole...
i also reached a par5 in 2 but ended up 4 putting... so i wont talk about that one... lolz

Had a terrible round yesterday - the only thing stopping me throwing away my 7 iron afterwards was the 20 foot bump and run that got me my only birdie of the day.

    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
    • So, Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech transfer QB, was found guilty of sports betting by the NCAA. He admitted to it. He placed thousands of bets over multiple years while at Indiana and Cincinnati. This included betting on his own teams.  The NCAA rules ban athletes from betting on any sport (college or pro).  A retired visiting judge from Tarrant County, Texas has put an injunction on the NCAA ruling. He is a visiting judge because the first judge was a graduate and big fan of Texas Tech, and he recused himself. The judged ruled the following... "Under Curry's order, Sorsby is permitted to play for Texas Tech's 2026 season on the condition that he continues his treatment for a gambling and anxiety disorder and serves a two-game suspension (missing games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State)."  Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the NCAA. That still doesn't mean that a college can choose when or where to say, "Yea we agree to these rules for all our sports, well except in this case." Here is a breakdown from S&W. The Hidden Weapon in Sorsby’s Injunction: How a Lubbock County Court Order Quietly Neutralized the NCAA’s Most Powerful Enforcement Tool - Law Offices of Snell & Wilmer By Ryan J. Regula On June 8, 2026, Lubbock County District Court Judge Ken Curry issued a temporary injunction in Brendan Sorsby v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Cause No. DC-2026-CV-0791 (99th Judicial District... The main judgement made sense. Sorsby, I am going to have all this harm done to me if I don't get to play. The Judge, I agree. The penalty for gambling is too harsh, so here are all these things you must do, and I will grant this injunction against the NCAA. Basically, an analogy would be when a person goes into court for a DUI and they agree to all these other things to not end up in jail.  What sucks for the NCAA is the NCAA has appealed to Texas’ Seventh Court of Appeals, based in Amarillo. All four justices that preside over the court are graduates of Texas Tech University School of Law. It would be hilarious if all four of them had to recuse themselves 🤣. For those who like to read legal rulings...
    • The chatter in my brain is when the distance is between clubs since I am pretty weak at shortened backswings, etc. I try to simply decide if being long or short is the better outcome and choose my club based on that and simply not even try for the “real” distance.  For me a full normal swing is what I strive for.
    • I saw this comment made in a golf article... "Most golfers stand over a 4- or 5-iron still negotiating with themselves. They think about how hard to swing, whether they have the right club, if they have the aim correct and more. It’s a lot to deal with and long irons punish the “half-in” golf swing." I am not sure the "most golfers" is correct regarding the bolded part. I can understand if there is a bunker, water, and/or OB that a lot of golfers would be fixated on that. I am not sure that leads to ending up more times there. Pending your level in golf, the variance is so large in outcomes, it could be just with in the expected outcomes. I can understand if have a big lake on the right side of the hole being one of the most terrifying shots for right-handed amateur golfers.  I am not sure many golfers are standing over the ball talking to themselves, "Ok, maybe I should step back and pull the 4-iron. Am I lined up right? Oh, the wind came up, should I swing harder? What am I going to have for dinner tonight, maybe steak. (Joking, somewhat 😛)" A question is that how much chatter do you get while standing over the ball. Are you questioning the everything about your golf shot?
