What does the hashtag #instagolf mean? There's a corresponding post in Instagram? Only just noticed it, but guessing it's probably been used for awhile. Some posts have an Instagram link, some don't. Why not just post an Instagram link w/o the hashtag? #Confused. :-D

Google search shows a collection of golf-related tweets with #instagolf.  None of the tweets are related except that they are all about golf.  So I'm thinking that someone was being "clever" and went for a portmanteau: instagram + golf

If you're posting on Slack or FB or Twitter or whatever and use the hashtag with no link to the Instagram post, it doesn't make sense to me though, unless your handle is the same across all platforms and it's a way to spam your account. Or maybe it's a subtle push to go to Instagram.

A lot of people link all there accounts and will post the same content on all outlets. There is actually an option for it. Hashtags have outgrown just instagram or twitter. Even if they can't accomplish anything. I see a lot of ignorant folks who text with them to add subtle emotion.

For example someone could text me " i just shot a damn 96 today. #golfishard". While ultimately the hashtag is irrelevant (and douchey), it still adds some substance to the text.
