I acquired a couple dozen of these Taylormade balls last year. They've kind of grown on me. They are certainly shorter than my preferred 2-piece (more hack) type balls. But, these are fun to putt and hit the mid and short irons with. Anybody else play with them? I understand Dean Snell had a hand in these. I also noticed how the little line text "Project(a)" is placed on the seam on the cast cover.

Custom fit RBZ irons. Taylormade RBZ driver. Some crappy old high-bounce Macgregor wedge and an even older Mizuno 5 wood. Haven't settled on a ball yet - still looking. Decades of football, weightlifting and boxing came together to create the world's worst golfer. I'm slowly correcting that now.

I play project a's exclusively now.  I have tried several other balls, none give me the feel when putting or swinging my irons.  Short game they are great too. However, I don't notice a knock on my distance like you, though.  I love their durability as well.  I can get them on Amazon for about $30/dozen so not the most costly,  I am willing to pay that for a really good ball.

I won a 12 pack of Project a's at a raffle. I played them for a bit, but I agree with @HitAndGiggle that they seemed shorter to me than the other brands that I typically play. I have no data to back it up, but it just seemed like I was consistently finding my ball 5-10 yards back of where I was expecting to. They were ok around the greens, but not good enough to offset by perceived distance sacrifice. So into my shag bag they went....

I played a dozen of them when they first came out.  I thought they were a nice ball, but not good enough to replace the ball I was using at the time (Callaway Hex Black).

And you're correct, Snell designed them when he was at Taylormade.

Yeah, that's the same. I had one shot of about 138 and absolutely crushed an 8-iron...that ended up about 10 yards short. My best shot was with a hammered 7-iron that went sky high and exactly where I aimed...155 yards pin high. Interesting ball. My new Get Sum balls are burning a hole in my bag and when I'm not playing a muddy cow pasture I'm looking forward to launching those. The Project(a) feels very nice.

I played them a couple of years ago and found them to be a consistent ball for me. Not great distance off the driver but a nice higher flight and soft feel off the irons and putter. I am playing the Callaway Super Soft now in the winter months and like that ball a lot. Although not as much spin on shots inside 100 yards. The SS goes high off the wedges so it doesn't need a whole to lot of spin except for chips into the green from just off of it.

Want to know a cheapie ball for the winter? Topflite D2 Feel. Haven't played it for some years but really liked it when I did.

    • They sure do. 158 with an 8 iron is on the high end for me
    • Went back to controlling my knees. That part was getting a bit sloppy when I worked on my backswing. Right hip didn't slide or gain internal rotation. I would just rotate back and around and the left knee would be in a bad spot. Really focusing now on keeping my left knee very stable and straighter in the backswing. I can't go back to the old pattern of overturning the hips. I was returning to my old pattern to time my downswing. Turn forever.  Left knee controls both knees and hips, acting as an anchor. Feel like it straightens a bit.   Hinge sooner and faster. Not in a way that sends the hands out and flips the club over. I still noticed when the hands get to A2.5, the hands would want to flip over and flatten the club out a ton.  Still trying to figure out how to roll the forearms a bit open and not just roll the club inside a ton.  Figure out the timing to get the hands down. Still getting a bit of right elbow collapsing in the downswing because the arms are too high when I turn. Everything is happening sooner now. If the hips are controlled, the backswing is shortened. Because it is shortened I don't know when to get the hands down and I just turn because the downswing is a go.  Very slow (50%) swings are decent.
    • Distances look fine, no?
    • Day 207-12 Wider backswing and arm reconnecting in downswing. Did a much better job with proper wrist movements through downswing today.
