Even if you did close it no doubt someone would start a new one the next time he makes a birdie, gets near the cut line, ties his shoes, whatever. At least there's sort of a one and only David Duval thread. Easy to find and easy to ignore

DD MAY be finished. It is so hard to come back. Look at Michelle Wie---she starts to show signs of getting her game back, and then embarrasses herself by NOT signing her scorecard and gets DQed. That is bad enough, and now she is going to compete with the men again. Based on her performances so far this year, she will be FORCED to go to Q School to play on the LPGA Tour, and her Dad says she may do that. "What other choices do we have left now?" He is right, for once------------what other choices does she have left. And she showed such promise two years ago.

In another year, DD and Michelle will be selling life insurance or open a car wash together. I do NOT wish that upon them, but that is where the road they are on leads.

Double D will never have to do anything again in terms of earning money, and neither will Wie. Duval could easily get a job in golf if he wanted to..coaching, club professional, commentary, journalism. He does a lot in golf course design.

Duval's next event will be the Reno Tahoe i believe- everyone else will be at the World Golf Champsionships. DD has 7 events left to make his mark.

He needs to start writing some letters to get into more events, beg a little, or a lot, the Open showing should open some doors for him, for 3 of the 4 rounds he had the 4th best showing of any player in the field playing one of the toughtest events ever for a major. That should prove he still has it in him, now it's only opportunity that he needs.

You are right. They both had lucrative contracts with Nike. I wonder what they think of that right now? I was making a little joke. Here is a serious question about Michelle-----what does the William Morris Agency think about her performances over the past year since she was supposed to be a STAR for them as they got into the business of signing sports figures? I notice that A-Rod just signed with them, which should prove interesting.

It's do or die time for Duval.

duval is finshed he has plenty of money and wishes to be with his family. nothing wrong with that. he had back problems, vertigo and lack of desire. it happens ask ian baker finch.

I voted number 2. I like DD, but I think the fire is gone. He is set financially, has his personal life in order, and I don't see him inside the top 125 this year. Too bad, and I hope he proves me wrong, but from what I've seen the last few years, I don't see it happening.

I agree with you. I like David and used to root for him. His quote about liking "country club golf, riding in a golf cart, playing 18 holes in 2 1/2 hours and then going home" shows one thing----------his heart is NOT in playing the Tour any more. Without that desire, I cannot see him keeping his card, and I cannot envisage him going to Q School to get it back.

78 in the first round today in Reno isn't going to help DD on the comeback train. He was an ass, still is too. I like him though, always have. Can't help but think that dropping a few lbs would do wonders for his game.

Who is this Michelle Wie?

Lets look for a nice week at the Reno Tahoe for Duval - a made cut would be nice.

You are right, but he shot 78 in the first round, and even Michelle Wie beat him by 5 shots.

....Duval, tied 8th at 4 under at the Valero Texas Open!....can he make the cut?...i hope so!

Perhaps he's been watching JD and thought...well if JD can do it why can't I?

Perhaps he's had lap band surgery on the quiet? ...when I think of JD I think of lap dancing bars rather than lap bands...lol.

Duval needs to make enough money to keep his card and a WIN finish will suffice i think (hopefully).

You can't shoot 66 anywhere if the game has completely passed you by. From all accounts he just needs to work out his driver yips. If he has figured that out finally, I suspect he will find himself in contention quite frequently.

Anyone know how tight this course is?

I do not think it is tight at all. Zach almost had a 59 yesterday, and the tournament is noted for low scoring. DD shot a 72, so he is playing OK on a course that can be taken. But, he did make the cut, which is a "good thing".

It'd be nice to see David Duval play well this year. I think he'll start playing better and better as the year goes by, and I think he'll get a full card for next year.

I hope that you are right. I am rooting for him as well.

It seems to me that David is just going through the motions. I think he has lost the desire to play at the highest level. He's got a happy home life and enjoys spending time away from the course obviously. He's got more money than he probably needs, and I don't think he's willing to commit to the long hours and lonely lifestyle that is life on the PGA Tour. I would love to see him at the top of the game again, but I just don't think he really cares that much.

In my Srixon staff bag:

Driver: Titleist 909D2 8.5 - Grafalloy Epic X
Fairway: Adams RPM LP 13 degree - Grafalloy Epic X
Hybrids: Adams Idea Pro 18 degree - DGSL X100Irons: MacGregor 1025M 3-PW - DG X100SW: Titleist Vokey Spin Milled 54 - DG X100LW: Titleist Vokey Spin Milled 58 - DG X100Putter...

But Duval's deal with Nike runs out this year. So he will be living off just his winnings if he can't get a new sponsor next year. I think Adams Golf will take Duval on (they ve already got John Daly).

...it's difficult to know how much Duval has made from golf, but I would conservatively estimate it to be in the region of about $120mn (winings and endorsements) which is enough for him to hide away in Denver for the rest of his life. Personally, I think if he ever gives up golf he would make a good analyst on The Golf Channel.
