Next Wednesday I am going to be fit (by one of Golf Digests Top 100) for a new driver shaft.  I realize shafts can run from not overly expensive to way over the top.  So I won't be too surprised, what am I looking at for a reasonably priced shaft.  I am a weekend warrior, 63 yrs old with a mid 90's swing speed.

Be upfront and tell him your price range, you'll save him time too in selecting a range of shafts.  When I got fit I told him , none of those $300 shafts.

What did you ultimately settle on.  He already told me there isn't any thing in $100 range.  He did say he would waive the fitting fee.

Project x HZRDUS yellow handcrafted...$299.99. ??

What's funny is I had to go online to look it up and then said to myself, " oh jeez..."

My guy waived the fee plus some other things so it was a steal.

I wonder if your guy just doesn't want to be bothered with $100 shafts.  I have to believe there are plenty that would suit u just fine.

If he waives the fee then your really looking at what would have been $179 +$100 for a shaft so that's $300 anyway.

I just went with the UST Elements Chrome + it's on a XR16 9 degree head. They list for $289 I got mine for $150, had store credit so it only cost me $40 plus tax. Big difference over the stock stiff shaft I had, I gained 30+ yards!

He has been pretty good to me in the past. He fitted me for irons a little over a year ago and waived the fee. The irons were exact same price as Golfsmith's.

Sounds like you can talk to him...that's good.  Like with my guy, he was able to fit me into a shaft that I could not afford by cutting corners elsewhere.  He was able to fit the whole thing into my price range.

And I could not be happier!

Best of luck!

I went today for my fitting fully expecting to drop $200-$300 on a new shaft.  But after about 45 minutes on the FlightScope I ended up with a Ping Tour 65R for $60, and he didn't charge for the time.  Plus I learned a lot about my swing.  I highly recommend Mark Vallier at MK Golf Technologies.

    • Day 4 (24 Jun 26) - Played the mid-week shootout - iffy day on putts as I had 35 and of late been in the upper 20's.   Greens recently verti-cut and they are a bit bump and long haired - no excuses as I need to learn to trust making the proper adjustments.   Overall a decent day with some solid long game shots.

    • Thank you.  I'll cross it off the list since it isn't going to achieve what I want.
    • While it does turn out that both Tiger and Phil are less squeaky clean than I previously believed, I don't think golf quite has the worst in professional sports.  Or maybe they're better at image management.   Obviously I'm not fond of Phil's issue we're discussing in this thread (or his involvement with LIV) or Tiger's choices of how to drive.  I used to really like Dustin Johnson and, even before the LIV situation, we started to hear rumors that he bought more snow than Seward, although I don't think those stories were ever substantiated.  Meanwhile, I did think of Anthony Kim as the "good, bad boy" of the tour for a while fifteen years ago because of his party persona -- and if it turns out the worst he did was show up hung over to play (barring what one thinks of LIV), that's pretty good.  And I'm still happy he found a way to get his life clean. If we contrast that with some other sports I enjoy, I'm sure we could find a nice long list of NFL players that, at one point in my life, I was quite fond of, we get far worse disappointments (to put it mildly).
    • Answering that properly would land me in hot water, so I'm not going to. I don't think that many people would do that. I think that in certain circumstances many people would be willing to overlook someone doing that. But I was really referring to what I assumed was Tiger's transgressions (cheating on his wife) not Phil's.
