I have a set of MacGregor Jack Nicklaus oil-hardened, persimmon woods, 1, 3, 4, and 5. does anyone have any idea what they might be worth or if they are worth anything? They are in what I would consider fair to good condition.

These threads pop up from time to time.

More than likely, they're not worth much of anything.

Have you checked E-bay?  Most from $10 up to $100. Real Persimmon more than Laminated Maple, but not much. I have a Palmer Persimmon that is in excellent condition, new grip, e.t.c.  I forgot what I paid, but it was not much.  They show up in thrift stores from time to time at around $6 or $7

I played MacGregor MT irons (+ SW)  and woods from about 1974 to 1994. When I got new clubs, the fitter recommended that I keep the MacG set in a period memorabilia bag. He said they had much more value as historic objects (sentimental and personal) than as a $100 trade-in.

I'm glad I kept them, and I likely will get them regripped in classic Golf Pride black-and-green Victory grips which have popped back up on the market.

Since you're a golfer in the Carolinas, consider finding a period bag and making a little corner display. Also, if they've been well cared for, you could let junior golfers try the old-style persimmons.

Just a thought...

Thanks for the post. sounds good. I was hoping to get enough out of them to upgrade the clubs I'm playing now. Or at least, a down payment. :-)
