Hey everyone.  New here and wanting to try and track my swing.   I work in commercial development for a energy company, so needless to say, golf is very much encouraged.  After embarrassing myself at a couple of events, I decided it's time to put some effort into the sport.  Part of the effort was finding an instructor to help me through this.  I tried GolfTec and to me it just seems like a money grab, the instructor was nice enough, but I did not like the emphasis on indoor practice only.  I looked and asked around and was referred to Michael Boyd from here in Tulsa.  The embedded video is from our first session and it's really helped my shot (I'll probably do about 5 lessons to start with).  I'm about a week and a half out from this first lesson and finally starting to get used to the swing.  I played in a scramble 4 days ago and still played poorly, but my shots were better.  This week on the range I'm finally starting to make solid contact and good shots are about 40% instead of 10%.  Let me know what you all think and I'll keep updating my swing from lessons and update after I start taking lessons as well.

Some things we're working on next time: Head movement, better hand control, look at driver swing.

I've been Playing Golf for: 2 months
My current handicap index or average score is: 100+
My typical ball flight is: Slice or right push
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Driver slice

Thanks all!

i struggle(d) still do somethimes with slicing. my problem was coming "out to in" on the ball creating the spin. I changed the grip and it helped A TON. i combined that with slowing down and shortening my backswing and i can drive on a line 250ish 7 out of 10 times..  the video that led me to change my grip was titled "Golf lessons that can change your life - Hold the club - by Charlie Sorrell" on youtube. check it out. now if i could get my irons and wedges on the same page as my driver i could be  on my way to a great round of golf lol

If you can upload the video to YouTube, @BogeyBerrios, it makes it more likely for people to comment.

Plus your video seems to be of you getting instruction, and people tend to let golfers just work with their instructors if they're doing that.

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
