Can we stick to golf? I have to deal with socialists and left-wing ideologues all day, every day, on campus. I come home and want to talk about something fun for a change.

At least you get a general reprieve off campus. I'm in California.

He is not a bad President because he is dumb and he is dumb. Even though Snopes disproves that whole IQ thing anyway. He is a bad President because he fails to learn from mistakes that he makes and worse fails to admit when he makes a mistake. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Iraq?

i feel he is a bad president cuz he represents the materialistic and power interests of the few elites over the self interests and expense of the whole human population and the planet earth

I don't think he is dumb or stupid, and I get annoyed when people suggest he is because he mispronounces nuclear and other trivial matters. I think his way of running things are wrong. The whole 'compassionate conservative' ideology is flawed, Its like you are trying to take the benefits of conservatism and liberalism without the cons. You can't lower taxes and not cut as much spending , especially during a war. But I don't think he is stupid. I mean even people I disagree with on just about every issue I don't automatically assume are stupid. I think Barack O'bama is a smart man, even though I also think he is a socialist. I think Ann coulter is stupid even though I agree with her on some fiscal issues(obviously not on 'fixing the jews' and calling people the 'other f word'). Where are you getting these facts, by the way?

When, in the process of public debate or discourse, people start calling those who disagree with them names, then they just denigrate the whole process and prevent real dialogue from taking place. When Rush Limbaugh ( and I only use him as an example; there are so many others on both the left and the right ) calls someone a "feminazi," he stops any semblance of debate cold; instead, he becomes an entertainer playing to his audience. Additionally, he insults anyone who has a clue of what the Nazi's accomplished during their reign of terror or worse, lived through it. Name calling is a form of attack and begs for an end to dialogue and, consequently, learning and, ultimately, growth.

And to the issue of name calling: I note with no small amount of sadness the passing of William F. Buckley, Jr., today. I knew him slightly and admired his wealth of talent greatly. I particularily appreciated his public television show, "Firing Line," which provided an hour, and later, a half hour, of genuine debate and public discourse without ever, in my memory, resorting to the type of name calling typical of the talking heads often attempting to pass, these days, as journalists. He was an iconic figure who sadly seemed ignored lately by many of the those who now publicly mourn his passing.

By force of reason and personality alone, he helped shape the evolution of a major political party in this country; no small feat for a northeastern aesthete. I am sorry that there seems to be no comparable figure on the scene today who speaks with as much reason, erudition and wit as did Mr. Buckley. I did not often share his political views, but I cherished his participation in the public exchange of ideas. Tonight, I miss his perspicacious voice.

Hi

id say that Bush has caused America and the wider world a few problems that will not go away for years to come. Surely it is possible to be a Republican without being in favour of Bush?

..what was Bush doing after the WTC??..playing golf-'..watch this drive'..we all like a game but that shows a lack of compassion.

Hi

And I'd say that you are attempting to rectify some of the ill will generated by Bush by sharing with the world your avatar.

I am but who cares and why is this in a golf forum? Jay

The answer to your last question first: because this is the Grill Room where people are allowed to ask non golf related questions and discuss them.

Who cares, you ask? By the number of responses and the twists and turns this thread has taken, quiet a few people have expressed some form of interest in this topic. If you look around the forum, you will find many non golf related threads. The fact that people are allowed to discuss a variety of topics, herein, is a strength of this site.

pretty much the difference between republicans and democrats is republicans like to seek out sex with other men at airports while democrats go for high priced hookers, or at least the best they can afford

That was the case with that guy, even republicans have their problems. But I would need to see the guy in the mens room and compare him to Monica before I would say anything further!
