did not know where exactly where to place this thread, but........

Okay, I have been struggling with iron play so have been working diligently on it at the expense of losing faith in Driver, fairway woods, and lower lofted hybrids. I have gotten much better at the irons, hitting all of them crisp and even being able to stop on a green. Today it was almost like throwing darts in that most of the iron approaches stopped dead in their tracks, however the greens were recently heavily "sanded" and therefor hardly any roll out at all. Just "thud craters". Not complaining mind you, as its always nice to lay one right up pin high within three feet or so (but sometimes shorter than expected).  That being said, now I just can not seem to hit driver e.t.c.  (nothing new here, and a lot of discussion in the past).  It would be nice to have a practice routine that would benefit me in both ways or as the subject line says, achieve balance.  Just a mild moment of "introspection" and muse.......

I've often had the problem of not hitting the driver as well as irons.  Over the last few rounds I came up with something that works pretty well for now:  Activate the wrists a little more with the driver.  With irons I've been swinging with a kind of "dead hands" feel in an attempt to cast/flip less and get a nice inline impact.  It just doesn't work the same for me with the driver.

Now I'm trying to get a little more of a "swinging" feel with the driver.  Not afraid to let the club swing the wrists back into a hinged position, then not afraid the feel them swing unhinged in the downswing.  Sort of conciously unhinging them.  Not too much though.  Still have to swing the arms and body.  I'm just sort of letting the club head go more instead of my normal bunt/block kind of shot.

I hope some of that made sense and was helpful.

@allenc Yah, that has indeed worked for me in the past. Its just that you tend to get away from the "feel" when working on something else. I have also had the opposite situation in the past in that my Driver and fairway clubs were very confident, and I could not hit the irons. The trick is to have them both work at the same time or day.  The "loose" wrist works well until you get to a point where you are compensating too much. Thank you, for reminding me. Heck who knows, maybe some day I will be able to walk and chew gum at the same time.

The whole problem is that you can get away with being a little "fat" with your driver but not with your irons.  And you can be a little steep with your irons, but not with the driver.  Whichever you are doing that day will decide which you are hitting better.  This golf business is tough.

ayup...in today's outing, I gained on average twenty yards with irons, but lost them back (and them some) with Driver.

    • Day 211 (29 Nov 24) - Friday men’s round albeit a solo foursome (temps in the 40’s, day after Thanksgiving and the average age closer to 75 - I’m a youngster at 65).  Interesting day of semi-solid play (8 of 18 GIR). Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
    • Day 60 - 2024-11-29 Got about 3.5' of snow today, so I was going to go to Golf Evolution, but… I only left the house to throw some snow. Instead, i checked out my putting stroke on HackMotion in the basement. Turns out… it's pretty good, and I'm very in touch with what I'm doing.
    • First time playing this game, Spanish is my native language. It was impossible for me. After 4 worlds I run out of worlds that have the letters I've already found that can be combined with the remaining letters.. just repeated the 4th world to knew the answer. I know the world but it never came to my mind.
