Im 34 and started playing golf 14 months ago, I have played almost 2 rounds let week since then and got down to 14 handicap. I was fitted to Callaway steelhead xrs with xp95 s300 shafts last year, my swing speed was 82mph €7i carry of 160.

Last week I went to try some new forged clubs and the fitter in the store said I need to look at the shaft because my swing speed is 93mph with 7i and my carry is 182yrds.

He asked what my mises are and I said they are mainly to the left and he said that's the shaft is too soft.

I didn't get a chance to go back for a proper fitting, as the fitting centre is a 4 he drive away

I bought an old set of forged Cobras s3 pros with dgs300s and while they feel smoother to swing I still miss left and ballon my short irons.

What shaft would suit my speed and swing (I'm a fast swinger with a very fast transition)

Amt x100 or project x 5.5 maybe?

Also I hit my driver 260yrds avg with a 60g ping tour stiff flex with my misses straight pulls

I'm about your swing speed, and I've been fitted recently via Mizuno and Taylormade. C-Taper x and DG x100SL respectively. MP5 and P770. I wouldn't go PX 5.5. Did you mean 6.5? Being as though you would struggle to get to a fitter, I'd start with the DG x100 (cheap set of pulls on eBay) as a base and go from there. I also hit my irons a little left and my short irons go high. It could be that you have an early release and present more loft to the ball than required, but at least they'll stop on the green coming from such a height!!

A fast swinger with a fast transition will need a stiffer shaft than most. OK, the fitter is 4 hours away. Why not bite the bullet, schedule some time, and spend it with him to get fit properly, rather than buying clubs willy nilly! Might turn out cheaper in the long run. Get it done one time!

Yeah, what did we do before there were fitters even available. I know I went to see a couple of club pros and/or a friend who repaired and built clubs, talked it over, hit a few, made a decision. Now we have that AND the Internet where these things are discussed, often by knowledgeable people like Tom Wishon. Ebay has made it great because you can get a NEW pull, have it installed and try it. Having said that, I have tried, have and like a lightweight Nippon shaft for steel and Project X for graphite. Just an old guy's mutterings. -Marv

Look into getting your driver fitted as well. This is way too short a distance for your driver. 60gm is likely too light.

    • Interesting for sure. I have actually had my instructor try to get me to get the elbow in front as well. That actually spiraled me into the slump I am currently working out of. I would disagree with him saying that lowering the arm might be the simplest and easiest move in golf 😄. I am having SOO much trouble making that move instead of my hands immediately moving toward the ball from the top. It's like my mind has 0 patience at the top and tells me to GO GO GO.
