"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge

Day 50: awful weather day, so just some mirror work while watching TV. Focused on keeping the trail knee bent in the backswing.

Day 70 (19 May 26) - weekly 9 hole session with my good friend this morning, however the better session was this afternoon with my grandson.  He put in for nine holes of match style play (we did stroke count as well).  The rules - I had to play from my regular tees but with irons only (no metal woods or hybrids (nothing with head covers)) while he played from the most fwd tees with his full bag.  Was a fun match and watching his competitive juices flowing.  He won the match 1/0 holding the lead as we tied the ninth.  Stroke wise it was a messy nine for me and he beat me by one stroke - not bad for a 10yr old.  Best of all - it was a dream session come true.

Day 259 5-19

Slow work on arms getting more in front. Lots of pause at the top, then rehearsals, then swing.

Day 15, May 19.  Today, after work (in stages), I hit two dozen practice balls at home.  Slow swings, focusing on the lifting of the arms as per my latest lesson.

Day 595 - 2026-05-19

Got some short game work in today during some lessons. Made a lot of putts too. Without trying. Golfer kept chuckling.

Day 51: Another long day, so another mirror work day. Again, focused on cleaning up set up and then not straightening the trail leg as much in the backswing. Need to feel like my knees stay a little more bent.

Day 16, May 20.  Today, in between Zoom meetings, I spent some time hitting balls in the golf room adjacent to my home office.  As of this writing, I've hit two dozen, all with a 6-iron, with the same slow swing and lifting arms emphasis of my last lesson.

Played ~14.5 holes today. Starting to get it together.

worked on lowering arms correctly. Doing it slow and no full swings. Recorded/  foam balls

Day 71 (20 May 26) - Opted to work on setup (distance from ball, ball position, and swing low point focus) coupled with shot window horizon target.  Hit about 16 hard foam balls (they do offer some shot shaping) with 6i and then another 16 with 9i - pausing between shots to assess.

Day 54: yardstick putting drill for about 20 minutes. Handle up is good.

Day 261 5-21

Early morning session, lowering arms, arching wrist. Pausing at top. Even though it sounds like a small change, it "feels" like I'm learning a completely new golf swing. At least its fun!  Recorded/Hit a few foam balls.

Day 72 (21 May 26) - On and off rain day - got a short break to work outside on alignment and overall setup….hoping to get a full round in tomorrow.

Day 597 - 2026-05-21

Practiced downtown before lessons. Full swing stuff. Was going to play, but it was blowing a lot today, and I don't want that baggage right now.

Day 17, May 21.  In addition to a dozen 6-iron shots (the usual), I went to a real putting green to practice putting.  This was my "make each station twice, 24 total" drill.  From 4', I took 29 putts and from 6' I took 64.   The 4' number beats the scratch benchmark (albeit, mine was on a practice green and not in actual play, but still!  Consider how poorly I was putting 2+ months ago) while the 6' falls just short of the bogey benchmark.   Either way, the results are encouraging.

Day 55: worked with foam balls outside for about 10 minutes. Trying to translate the lower body feels into an actual swing. This might actually be hard one to do, based on what I saw today. But still, it is improving.
