Hello everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself. I live in Charlotte, NC and love to play golf. I look forward to talking golf with everyone!

Welcome from Seattle lehighkid!! I just got back from skiing at Whistler and met a very nice family from NC. Their kids were good skiers (boarders) which surprised me since they were from NC - they do a lot of water skiing and wake boarding.

Lost Ball welcomes you

I've gotten requests from people to make "Lost Ball" a censored word so that you have to stop speaking in the third person.

And they have a point. Continuing to speak in the third person as you are strikes me as nothing more than doing something annoying just for the sake of being annoying. That's not exactly "cool" behavior.

There are quite a few nice courses around here. Most of them are private, but after some time you'll find plenty of people that are members. As far as the public and semi-private, Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation and Rocky River are two reasonably priced well maintained courses. Skybrook is another excellent one but a little more on the pricey side. Emerald Lake is hit or miss. There is always Ballantyne... Like I said there are quite a bit and on top of that Myrtle Beach and Charleston, SC are only three hours away for excellent golf retreats. You are also only 2 hours from Pinehurst and Southern Pines!

Rocky River was indeed a nice course... played there last year while visiting. Played the Warrior up in China Grove the year before and it was nice as well. I have been looking for a place to pick up a cheap membership or annual pass, problem is most places don't allow joinging midsummer, and if they do, it's still full price. I guess it'll be better for me to play some courses in the area before making a decision. Have you ever played McCanless, they are dirt cheap, is there a reason? Also heard most of the Carolina Trail courses are nice...

I have not had a chance to play McCanless, sorry. As far as the Carolina Trail courses go... I am not a fan. Some of the courses are fairly nice but all of them are overpriced and slow. I've played each of them and while Birkdale is my favorite I don't believe it is worth the money. Olde Sycamore usually has deals throughout the year on memberships so again I would check that out especially if you are on eastern side of the city. Charlotte National is another great priced course with no ammenities but one of the most fun layouts. Eagle Chase is a hike but also another tucked away value gem. Clickit golf usually has great deals as well as golfholes.com and last minute golfer. I believe all provide maps and reviews so I would check those out if you are not familiar.

HTH!
