So I have developed this problem which is annoying to say the least. On my backswing, my head lifts up as I reach to top of my swing which is more a less a 3/4 swing. If you look at tour pros, they stay centered over the ball and the head doesn't move. On camera, looks like my torso is raising up a bit which is leading to some inconsistencies. My thoughts on my backswing are keep the left arm connected to chest and stay down on the ball.

Any thoughts... Anyone share in this issue?

I used to do the same thing. It sounds like you are not keeping your spine angle the same throughout the swing. Practice short swings with your rear end up against a wall without a club to get the feel of what it should be like when you move through impact and see if that helps. Your hind end shouldn't leave the wall.

This could be way off, but try rotating your shoulders on a steeper plane, a swing thought might be to drop your left shoulder downward toward the ball during the backswing (not directly at the ball, but more downward than you are now). Sticking your rear end outward should also give an anchored/stable feeling during the backswing. Does your right knee stay flexed during your backswing or does it straighten? Is the video posted somewhere?

I used to have this problem myself. Sometimes swing thoughts are great but the old "keep your head down" just didn't do it for me. I guess I felt like I was keeping my head down even if I was not. The thought that worked for me instead was, "keep your butt sticking out". This actually kept my head down and kept me on plane.

Could also be a lower body flexibility issue, keeping you from holding your posture.

    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
    • I got another one today....Number 17. Par 5 that has water left and right on the layup. I smacked a drive down the left side and got a little lazy on the layup and fanned my 6 iron. With 112 to a crowned green I got it to 3 feet and birdie!  Only 5 and 15 is left for this year!
    • Maybe I didn’t explain this properly. Back and front can be confusing.  There was no place in the bunker that didn’t have 2-3 inches of rain water in it, except for a small spot on the slope nearest the pin. If I had dropped there I would be moving 6-7 feet closer to the hole. Since my ball was just inside the bunker, farthest side from the hole, I dropped one club length backward, which brought me out of the bunker. I could not have hit from that deep of water. Are you saying I would have had to take a penalty stroke due to rain water?
    • Day 550, May 5, 2024 Got a good hour in with a typical (for me) two-stick setup: pool noodle angled in front, yardstick on the ground angled 45° behind me.
    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
