I have a mini driver (Aeroburner 14 degrees) which is wide but not very deep, which I'm generally straighter with my driver, but get varying trajectories. Like a strong 3 wood.

Experimenting with tee height seemed to produce something I found interesting  shots out of the bottom of the club, when teeing very low, tended to be very straight compared with normal centered contact. Produces a very flat trajectory which runs out a fair bit on landing, although doesn't carry as far as full drive.

Played some really great rounds recently playing like this. There's a danger that I catch the ground on the way if my timings are off that day, which causes a big loss in distance, but otherwise it has worked well.

Is there a reason hitting out of the bottom would do this, or is it more likely that the tee height is forcing me to swing differently?

The distance loss is not worth it for many people. More spin, lower launch, etc.

Yeah, it goes straighter. Spin axis isn't tilted as much as the vertical spin (backspin) is "increased."

Thanks Erik.

The distance loss for me ,at least, has proved worthwhile based on limited scoring data ( shot 86 playing this way , despite messing up the par 3's). That's probably helped by the fairways being firm at this time of year. No good when there are fairway bunkers and trouble to carry , of course.

Probably better used a specialist shot rather than stock drive in the long term.
