Hello everyone! I am new here to see if I can’t get some clarification on a loft/hosel/adapter sleeve question!

The back story is, I bought an older TaylorMade SLDR 10.5 with an upgraded Aldila Tour Blue JV (Japanese Version) shaft. When I went to adjust the loft, I noticed the adapter sleeve’s “neautral” setting was  positioned at the ferrules “lower” position, and “+1.5 degrees” at the “standard” setting.

My question here is; what is now the standard position based on the adapter sleeve’s positioning? And if the “lower” position on the ferrule is in fact the standard setting, I assume the driver is 10.5 degrees in that setting regardless of what the ferrule says at that position, and lofting up or down would effectively be the same??

Ill try and post pics tonight to explain some of this a little better! Thanks for the help!

Unless I am mistaken, the SLDR driver has no adjustment for loft, rather than only a sliding weight heel to toe for slice/hook correction. If you have an adjustment on the ferrule, it may be after market. Technically speaking, you cannot change the actual loft no matter what you do. You can change the lie and face angles to give you different "dynamic" loft. You are merely changing the way the shaft fits in the head. The so called higher loft settings are actually a result of the club face being more closed so that at address you visually square the club and by doing so you are opening the face to simulate a higher loft. Club maker Tom Wishon has published a very in depth article you can google.

Hey James, thanks for the response. The SLDR S wasn't adjustable, that is correct, however the original SLDR loft was adjustable, so you were technically right! I've watched a few videos by Tom Wishon and read through some articles over the whole adjustable loft ordeal and understand the thought behind the "dynamic loft" idea, but my confusion is with the adapter in relation to the ferrule and not knowing what is now "standard" to apply the information from Tom Wishon..

My "neutral" setting on the adapter aligns with the "lower" setting on the ferrule. Should I essentially disregard what the ferrule setting says, and set my loft based on the adapter sleeve settings only since that will ultimately decide the lie and face angle for dynamic loft?

    • I've been putting whilst looking at the hole and it's definitely helped my distance control
    • I wonder if that is why my home course basically have no stakes now.  Not even markers.  It’s completely up to golfers to remember what is OB and hazard and how things used to be marked.     Even in tournaments, there is no marking and certain areas are played differently by different golfers who either don’t know better or use it to their advantage funny reading thru this with courses that actually have markers
    • is it though?????? "Millions of fans"?????
    • Great post, thanks for the informaiton. I try to avoid adding salt to anything I eat. I tend to add pepper on to my meals as opposed to salt. And I am trying to eat as clean on possible. On golf day, I eat 3 eggs for breakfast (pepper NO salt) and a salad for lunch, with grilled chicken thigs (pepper, garlic, no salt). I have been trying to avoid processed food, but we all slip. I also should have mentioned that the electrolyte packet calls for mixing with 16 oz of water, however I mix in 32 oz of water, so I dilute the electrolyte powder.
    • So if I read the news correctly, the PIF will not fund LIV after this season.  LIV is trying to find new funding and a number of players there are now asking about getting back to the Tour.    I am very, very concerned that Taylor Gooch will not have a place where he can make a jackass out of himself soon
