Watching the British Masters, I was struck by (1) the course conditions...The PGA Tour does not play such tournament courses with gorse, bare ground, thinning grass off the fairway; (2) the weather...The pros were ready with the right clothes and just played in cold rain and wind; No bad golf weather, just bad golf clothes. How do you think pro's in the US would have done? Best, -Marv

I think the whole talk of weather and players is overrated. IMO it’s really just a matter of the style of play a player may have (low trajectory, good worker of the ball) and then....attitude. Some people really dislike certain weather. Maybe a player who grew up in the South has a strong distaste for cold weather. Or one may absolutely hate being wet. Today PGA pros play all over the world in all kinds of weather. Now course conditions certainly may vary simply due to different agricultural reasons. But in the long run they are all experts at golf. They can all analyze the shot they have before them including weather and its potential effects. So to answer your question, there are plenty of US players who would do just fine with those conditions. Just my opinion.

Half of the last 20 British open champions were Americans. I think they would do just fine.

Yeah...I was also thinking of Monty's remarks about the Ryder Cup players. Best, -Marv

Although I agree that most professional golfers would have the ability and training to adapt their game as necessary, I do think that British players have a slight edge here. Weather is part of the course (especially coastal links) on a great deal of our courses here in the UK, so all our golfers will have grown up playing regularly in such conditions. Even inland courses will experience a significant amount of wind/rain.

True, but most of the best players in the world are American, with 3 of those wins coming from Woods during his dominant spell, so that would be at least the expected haul. Americans have took a greater share of all the other majors in that same period.
