OK, The Sandhills Cup (Sandhill or Sandhills???) versus The Newport Cup.

The only knock I've got against the Sandhills one is that it may not always be played there, but the positive is that it's got "sand" in the title, at least.

If it's between those two, my vote is for Newport. I think Erik is right. I have the same difficulty with Sandhills.

Call me dumb, but who the blue hell is Newport?!?

I don't really care what we are playing for, but I want to win it whatever it is. :)

I'll be able to grasp things a little better when I know who Newport is...

Uhhh...

Call me dumb, but who the blue hell is Newport?!?

I had to search for the meaning of Newport myself, but this is Erik's post two pages ago:

The first U.S. Open was played in Newport (Newport Cup) and won by Horace Rawlins (the Rawlins Cup) - he's British. John J. McDermott (McDermott Cup) was the first American to win it. Francis Ouimet (Ouimet Cup) won it famously in 1913 with his sidekick Eddie Lowery (Lowery Cup). Walter Hagen (Hagen Cup) won not long after, of course, and then future champions included Bobby Jones (too overdone) and Billy Casper (Casper Cup).

Heh, you really can call me dumb now. There have been too many different names thrown around, I got confused. :/

Yeah, the Newport Cup sounds awesome to me. I think the first ever U.S. Open is a pretty big deal. And it's my favorite major too.

I'm all for Newport Cup.

Here's a late entry that I saw on PGA Tour Sunday yesterday, the Blisplinghoff Cup. Named after Don Blisplinghoff. The interview was pretty cool and this guy was really good. Anyway, just thought I'd share.

Don Blisplinghoff won 15 tournaments by the age of 21, played golf with legends Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, and earned his PGA TOUR card on multiple occasions, yet he never fulfilled his dream. Blisplingoff reflects on his decisions, passion for the game, and love of family.

    • Day 95 - 2025-01-03 Light day again, mostly because Natalie gets very annoyed when she has to spend more than the time she wants to spend at the academy at the academy. 😛 So, I did work at home while watching a video.
    • Thanks a million, those are some good suggestions. I will report back.
    • Day 23: 1/3/2025 Had a long range session yesterday. It was pretty cold out there. Today it was colder than a brass toilet seat in the Yukon. So, I decided not to go to the outdoor range today. I did put in some solid slo-motion practice in front of the mirror. One of the things I wanted to focus on was making sure my left rear sit-bone was going back away from the ball and not up away from the ball.  That was one of the things I picked up from the video I took of myself at the range yesterday. Today was mostly slow motion in front of the mirror with a focus on driving my lead leg to push the carpet toward the ball as I jump away from it.  Hitting through a 2 inch gate from 11 feet is impressive. I usually use my 2 inch gate at about 3 feet, no more.  Good job out of you.
    • Been frustrating last few sessions. Starting to struggle to see gains with the 195g Max Effort. I did go and hit balls at the range a couple days ago and the radar had my swing speed at 110mph which is definitely faster than when I begun (previous speed recorded at my driver fitting was 107-108mph). So I would say so far I comfortable gain of 2-3mph without trying to hit the ball hard. Hopefully will break through this barrier I seem to be at and start seeing some gains
