Hi, I have recently got hold of a replacement set of mp32s in great condition as my old ones were badly worn out. My original set was custom fitted with s300 shafts at +1/2 inch. The new set has s300 at standard length. I will get the lofts and lies checked and adjusted as necessary but my question is; will the standard length shafts play the same as the longer ones if I I get them extended by a half inch? Or should I get a new set of shafts? (obviously more expensive but I wouldn't mind the extra cost if it was necessary).

I had thought about pulling the shafts on my old set and putting them in the new irons but I would still like to keep the old set as they are.

Many thanks in advance!

There is nothing wrong with shaft extensions.  They are available in steel, aluminum, and graphite, and do not alter the flex characteristics of the other 99%.  The swing weight will increase but it will do so across the set.

In der bag:
Cleveland Hi-Bore driver, Maltby 5 wood, Maltby hybrid, Maltby irons and wedges (23 to 50) Vokey 59/07, Cleveland Niblick (LH-42), and a Maltby mallet putter.                                                                                                                                                 "When the going gets tough...it's tough to get going."

Technically the swing weight will be fractionally lighter with extensions vs. one solid shaft of same length assuming you use the same material for the extension and not a lighter one. That being said, I don't think you will have any issues with simple 1/2 inch extensions. Would probably do that first.

Thanks for the answers! Does anyone know if the extra length on a solid 1/2 inch long shaft (what I have in my original irons) is simply just an extra piece of metal at the butt end or are they a completely different shaft compared to the standard length?

Just thinking about how different shafts play when they are soft/hard stepped (or is this totally different?)

They usually are the same shaft just cut longer. Most shafts are assembled onto clubs then cut to length at the butt end.

Soft or hard stepping has to do with trimming the hosel end and using a shaft meant for a higher or lower loft iron.

Shaft extension ar below.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
