  1. Gold Mountain (Bremerton, WA) Shuksan (Bellingham, WA) - Lots of interest, beautiful setting, elevation changes. Kayak Point (Stanwood, WA) - Beautiful setting. Links and the Woodlands at Hawks Prairie (Lacey, WA) Avalon Golf (Burlington, WA) - just don't play it in the winter because rain turns it to soup.
  2. Actually, I think you're under-clubbed for a beat down. I'd use a 3-iron.
  3. Hawks Prairie is a great little complex. There are quite a few around here that are nice... Gold Mountain is a treat too. I'd love to play there every week. Thanks for the invitation.
  4. I lived in Lacey, Washington for about three years and loved the winter because I was also one of the only crazy people out there. Like fishing, only the hard core fanatics get out in the questionable weather. Having said that, I haven't played since beginning graduate school in Bellevue. Welcome to the site.
  5. Thought I should chime in here. I've really enjoyed my G5 iMac purchased in 2005 (I think). I like it because it works and works well. It stays out of the way and lets me do what I do... internets, email, word processing, image manipulation, a little gaming from time to time, music, organizing graduate school, and killing time. The compatibility issue doesn't apply most of the time. The only thing that I've run into is trouble with sights designed around Microsoft proprietary software. There was something in grad school I could only access on a windows machine because the school drank the Microsoft Kool-Aid. I have had a very positive experience with Apple warranty and care service. As Erik mentioned, I've had this box in twice for motherboard work (free both times).
  6. Golf Pride Tour Velvet on everything but my putter. They have just the right feel for me and enough tackiness to golf gloveless. I use a soft Winn grip on my putter.
  7. More useful to me as I don't get along well with a 60-degree wedge. I just have more confidence in the 58. Both wedges work great out of the sand. I'll use the 58 for shorter shots that need to stop a little faster. It's been a combo I've enjoyed. I picked up the 690.CB's 3-9i and former Sand Trap staffer Josh Premuda suggested that I pick up a Vokey wedge instead of the wedge that matches the set. I think I get a little lower ball flight out of the Vokey wedge than what I would get from the 690 PW. The idea was to get a uniform feel through my wedges. I'd play either club.
  8. Lots of ink gets spilled around here about what clubs are the best... I don't think there is as big a gap in performance between manufacturers as club pushers would like us to believe. TaylorMade has done an outstanding job marketing to the younger crowd and they make great equipment, hence, their liberal use on Tour. For the average player/consumer, club/manufacturer choice comes down to performance and knowing some of the intangibles: style, general performance, and preference. I think the biggest gap lies between players- and game-improvement clubs.
  9. When properly fitted there is very little difference in distance with most modern drivers. Both have received glowing reviews. Ultimately you'll have to decide by hitting them both and picking the one that fits your eyes, ears, and fairways best. I'd play either.
  10. I play a set of Fusions... they are a great set of irons, forgiving, feel is good for a game-improvement club. Perfect for a mid-capper too. You wouldn't be disappointed.
  11. Looks, length, feel, and swing-weight top my list. There are a few putter styles that I really love. I gravitate towards my preferences and then get the putter than meets my specs. Length is an often-overlooked but important factor.
  12. Your PW seems to lend itself to the 50/54/58 combination as it keeps a four-degree gap between your irons. I would prefer it that way. I also find a 58-degree wedge more useful than a 60. But that is just personal preference.
  13. Both sticks will be great. I don't understand golf club economics well but know that you'll get some great sticks if you go with Titleist and Mizuno. Like a lot of things it's down to personal preference. Remember, Titleist makes tons of cash through golf ball sales... far more than through their clubs. Every club company is shelling out endorsement cash, including Mizuno. Pay no attention to the contents of my bag.
  14. How did I miss this thread? I play saxophone, guitar (Taylor 815ce, La Petrie classical, Fender tele, Fender bass), and just a touch of piano. Music has been a part of my life for a long time. Glad to see some musicians out there.
  15. You are officially my hero. Somebody wake this guy up.
  16. Verplank doubles 12 (ouch) and now Tiger Woods is 5 clear on Saturday afternoon. Turn out the lights, the party's over.
  17. Tiger Woods: 260-270-yard 2-iron?!! Wow. FYI: He's a freak.
  18. My personal preference would be the Titleists... they are clean looking, forgiving enough, and would be a club you could play confidently for a long time. But that's just me.
  19. Apologize for nitpicking but I disagree at this point. Shaft flex is very important. I wasn't taken seriously during a fitting at Puetz Golf here in the Seattle area and ended up with Regular shafts when I most certainly should have gotten Stiff. It makes a huge difference. If you're approaching it casually, getting a cheaper set makes sense. If you truly want to grow into your clubs (irons through driver) pay close attention to your swing speed. Getting a good clubfitter to answer your questions, watch you swing, and look at your potential is a good idea.
  20. Some guys (amateurs included) switch equipment a lot but it's not because they wear out that fast. The quest for "the perfect club" is behind the equipment craze. Equipment doesn't wear out that fast... pro's only switch equipment because they want to, not because it becomes necessary after 3 or 4 months.
  21. x460? What make?
  22. Could Tiger's problems of late (if you can even call them problems) be a tempo problem? I think his desire to kill the ball might be his problem. It is easy (as Zinger pointed out) to see when his tempo gets quick.
  23. As with all drivers the FT-i needs to be fit properly to get the most out of it. Because it tends to be more spinny it is more critical to get the right shaft for your swing. Don's article at thesandtrap.com said as much.
  24. A little testy ? BTW, I'm totally kidding you. Just so you know.
  25. No nine today but I got golf in on Thursday and Friday. Happy Father's Day guys.
