power. more power.

Coil, Coil, Coil. Work on your flexibility in your upper body make the weight transfer back and through the ball. In order to increase your distance you'll have to increase your swing speed, and timing and torque are the name of the game. -
I'm playing the wrong ball
The Golfing Polack replied to Teedub7's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
So you want less spin with your wedges? It doesn't make much sense. Why complain about being able to stop your shots? Unless you driver is checking up in the fairway it shouldn't be a problem. If you approach shots are leaving you short take an extra club. It might be an ego hit for a little while but I lost 1 1/2 clubs with my MP-57s but I love the trajectory and feedback, so I'm learning to live with it. Now I hit an 8 from 155 instead of a 9. No big deal. As far as ball selection goes, I got the free 6 pack of the Callaway Tour iX and have to say that it's amazing. Long off the tee (I swing 110 and drive 280-300) and spins like a mother off my wedges. I backed some up 10 feet last round with my sand wedge. I was even pulling 7 irons back a few feet. -
Does anyone on here don't use a driver?
The Golfing Polack replied to steve617's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I don't hit my 3 wood off the tee very well so I either tee off with the driver or hybrid. I couldn't live without my driver. I've noticed a lot of you who aren't using yours are listing older equipment. A 460 cc driver should be easier to catch clean than a 3 wood. If the length of the shaft is the issued choke down 1" and keep the forgiveness of the huge head. Also, you can't get better witha club if you don't work on it. Use the driver at the range until you're comfortable with it. -
Beginner mistakes when using the driver
The Golfing Polack replied to steve617's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I still struggle with my driver occasionally. Last round on Friday I hit 1 big tall slice, but other than that I was making solid contact and getting my usual ball flight which is a very slight fade to about 290 yards. I have to control my tempo to accomplish this. To really bomb one on say a par 5 I have to think "slow". Try swinging with a though that you only want to hit this shot 200 yards. You'd be amazed at how smooth you will swing, which will result in good contact and good yardage. When I try and really torque one it always ends up no-where near the fairway. -
I got my 57s about 2 months ago and love them. I do notice however that I lost about a full club of distance through the entire set. With my last 2 sets before these I hit my 9 iron 150-155 and now have to hit my 8 iron that distance. Is this the result of them being less forgiving? I still seem to lose the distance even on well struck shots.

High Handicapper Updating Irons
The Golfing Polack replied to TheGolfingDetective's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
There are so many "whats" before this question can begin to be answered. What kind of ball flight do you have? want? Hybrid set or full irons? Hitting a 7 iron 140 is not indicative of someone who "bombs" it off the tee. Super game improvements like the Adams A30s or Berthas might be up your alley. It's going to be a matter of hitting everything you can get your hands on and finding out which set is going to help you improve, but also be able to grow with you. -
Adding a 60* wedge
The Golfing Polack replied to The Golfing Polack's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I was thinking of ditching the hybrid, trading for a Mizuno 16.5* 4 wood and adding a 60* wedge. I find myself hitting the hybrid once a round at most, and that is usually off the tee on a short par 4. The switch will probably have to wait until next season anyway, as I've already burnt my entire year's budget on my irons and driver. -
I know there have been other discussions on this forum about that people should drop to add a hybrid or a wedge. I'm wondering if I should drop my 18* hybrid to add a 60* wedge. I'm long off the tee (280-300) and don't find myself using the hybrid very much any more. I hit the hybrid around 230 and my 3 iron around 225, so I was thinking of dropping the hybrid, getting a high lofted 3 wood and adding a 60* wedge. Any thoughts on if this should work and/or what wedge to get? Thanks

I've been playing Uke for a couple of years now, off and on. It's worth it to spend a little more and get a quality instrument than try and play one of the $30 models you see. It is a blast to play and is very portable. If you have big hands try and get a tenor or concert size as it will cause a lot less cramping.

Right now I would have to say my new driver. I finally have a club that's fit for me and it's a great feeling.

Swing speed can give you more distance, but not always. I found yesterday that when my swing speed went over 115 I was actually losing about 15 yards. When I kept it around 110 with a nice smooth swing I was getting it out there much further with a lot less sping. I'm a big guy (5'11" 275+) but weight transfer and lag are a big factor. The further you can rotate back the more energy you store in your core. I'm a big guy but I'm pretty flexible, so that's where I generate my swing speed. Also, long arms help.

Did swinging indoors fix my slice?
The Golfing Polack replied to The Golfing Polack's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Until yesterday I would totally agree with you, but I've been so screwed up lately fighting a slice with almost every club in my bag. I'm just glad it carried over to the outdoor range today. -
Mizuno MP-57 and MP FLI-HI Questions
The Golfing Polack replied to Shindig's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
This is from my experience at the range today. I just got the MP 57s last week, and hadn't had a chance to hit all of them. I'm coming from a set that used 3-4 hybrids and then 5-pw. I found the 57 3 iron very easy to hit with a great trajectory. I only hit it off the deck, so I'm not sure how it would be off the tee, but the feel was sweet when I caught the sweet spot, which is surprisingly big for forged irons on this set. I'd try the 3-iron that's coming with your clubs for a while. I was hitting mine about 225-230 today with a slight tail wind. -
Did swinging indoors fix my slice?
The Golfing Polack posted a topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'm always struggling to get rid of a fade/slice with my long irons and woods. I have an outside in path and an over-the-top move that make it very hard to keep things left. Sunday I went to the PGA tour store down here in Texas and was hitting some drivers on the simulator. I started out hitting everything really "fat" and right, getting only 220 yards with a 110 mph swing speed. Usually I can't hit with anything over my head as I subconsciously am afraid that I'm going to hit it. Gradually my swing started to flatten out, and by the end of my fitting session (I bought a SuperQuad) I was hitting things straight or with a slight draw and averaging 280-290 yards of carry. I thought it may have been a fluke and took my new Mp-57s to an outdoor range today. I was hitting everything much better, including my 3 and 4 iron, which I always seem to fade/slice. I'm just hoping that this change sticks around for a while. It's like everything seemed to click. Sorry for the long post, just needed to tell somebody about my epiphany. -
Whats in your bag 2008?
The Golfing Polack replied to JaY_B's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I didn't really think I was going to change anything since I got new irons and driver in the fall of '07, but coming down to Dallas has left me board and I ended up getting the MP-57s in my sig, and on Sunday I broke down and got a SuperQuad. I just went in to look and started hitting different drivers on the simulator. I was maxing almost everything out @ around 275, then I picked up the SQ and hit the first one 295 straight down the middle. Needless to say I left the store with it. Over 12 shots with it I averaged 285 carry and was hitting a nice draw with a 10 yard dispersal. Can't wait to get it home. -

can we talk about wedges for a minute? :)
The Golfing Polack replied to erikpmort's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Bound will prevent your club from digging in. A nice feature in a bunker, but no so much when you want to hit a flop shot or take a divot. Some players have a time with blading the ball from good lies with a high bounce club. 60* wedges usually have a low bounce to facilitate opening the club face and hitting flop shots. Sand wedge have a high bounce to help them glide through the sand and not just dig in. -
I'm in the Dallas, TX area for until the end of the month for work. I'm up on roofs all day and wanted to get a hat. I stopped at a local Golf Etc. and was looking at Titleist hats. I mentioned to the owner that I was also interested in the Mizuno MP-57s. He said that he had a few sets, one of which was the DGS300 shafts, which seem to fit my swing right. The list on these was $850, the same as everywhere else. He said that if I paid for them today he would let them go for $699. He regripped with new midsize GP new decades for all 8 and threw in the $20 hat for $699 + tax. He even offered to ship them home for me since I don't want to take them on the plane, which I declined since I want to hit them in the next few days. I'm so freakin' excited about these clubs!

What do you hit from 200 yards?
The Golfing Polack replied to nykfan4life's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
With no wind and a good lie I'd hit my 5 iron. Downhill or with a tailwind it would be my 6. I hit my 4 hybrid around 215 and very high, so it's nice for uphill holes. -

Clubs for a beginner...
The Golfing Polack replied to dsilva2's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would check places like rockbottomgolf.com. They're always having some sort of sale and they have a great reputation for quality used clubs. I'd also check around with your friends. There might be somebody you work with or golf with who is upgrading and could give you a really good deal. Trade-in value for clubs is next to nothing at most golf stores, so you can make a deal that works out good for both parties. Basically, get a set that won't frustrate you, but also won't set you back too far if you decide later on that golf just isn't for you. Though that won't be very likely. -

I think your money would be better spent on piecing together quality used equipment than by buying an all-in-one set. Look at your local golf store or used sporting equipment store, or eBay even. You can find decent name-brand iron sets for under $200 on eBay, they'll just have a few rounds on them. Obviously you will eventually want to get fitted for clubs, but at this point while you're creating your swing it's not worth the extra money. If you're interested in a hybrid iron set look for the Ben Hogan CFT Hybrid set. They can be had for around $200 on eBay. Then you can add a driver and wedges around that. -
I've never thrown a club down a fairway. Sometimes I will bury the head of my wedge in the ground if I get frustrated. I tell my partners it helps the rust finish on my raw wedge. I had a friend in college who chucked his wedge into the woods, then had to spend 2 hours after we finished trying to find it.

I'm 2 years out of college making well below $100k/yr. The median family income in my county is well below my yearly salary, and right now my wife doesn't have a job. Even with that we're scraping by each month. Fuel oil for heat is $3.50 per gallon, and we're going through about 30 gallons a week. Add that to the electric bill and our very small mortgage ($1,000) If I had to pay for my own car and gas (it's company supplied) there would be no way to make it. If my wife and I could make $100k combined I would be sitting pretty. What kills me in my area is that even though almost everyone is below the poverty line they all drink and smoke. I try to talk to my neighbors who is always complaining about how I have a nice TV and a nicer house. They probably make the same as I do, but spend x amount of dollars a month on booze and smokes. Add to that the hundreds in lottery tickets and they're just running themselves into the ground. I think more than inflation it's the lifestyle that people think they need to live that's making $100k look smaller and smaller. 20 years ago you couldn't buy a 70 inch tv or a $60,000 Cadillac.

putter, insert or none?
The Golfing Polack replied to crissmillputters's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Right now I'm playing a Yes! putter and can't complain. not that I'm a great putter (average around 36 putts a round) but I do notice a much better initial roll with the Yes! over my last POC Hippo putter.
