  2. Scotty Cameron Newport 2 TOUR ONLY 60 grams, 35 inches
  3. PING IN Anser V2, 35", Blackout grip, standard lie/loft
  4. i have never carried a 5w. i have thought about a 4w but so far have decided to stay with a 3w (15*) and 3h (20*).
  5. try turning your shoulders in a tighter turn, like your in a barrel and you want to flip from your stomach to your back. you might also want to experiment teeing the ball a bit lower and not tilting your spine too much...
  6. I play the Cobra Baffler TWS 3h 20*. It is a great club, very solid, long, and forgiving. I upgraded the shaft to a UST V2 72 gram. It goes about 205-210. I can't vouch for new hybrids but this one is a winner and you can probably get it $100 or less. I have heard great things about the Titleist 910 hybrid and the Callaway Razor has great reviews....
  7. My suggestion is this... Wait a few months until the price drops a $100 or so and in the mean time tell a couple of golf stores in the area to be looking for what it is you want. There are always the guys out there who will drop $2000 in a heartbeat for a new set and then trade them in 2 weeks. I play the '08 AP2 4-PW, great clubs...I bet you could get the '10 AP2 for less than $500 on ebay or used at your local golf shop. New clubs are great but way too expensive, buy used and swing away! PS, my 3w is 6 years old and I wouldn't change it for anything.
  8. I play a Ping In Anser V2 blade style putter. I've only played with a blade and like how it feels compared to the mallet style putters I have tried at the golf stores. I like the weight and the look of a blade over the bulky looking mallet.
  9. I dropped my 5w and 3i added 3hi and 52 wedge. My set is as follows: 10.5 PING G5 Driver 15.5 Cobra HS-9 3w 20 Cobra Baffler TWS 4-PW Titleist AP2 52 Vokey 56 Vokey 60 Nike SV Tour In Anser V2 PING

    Go JByrd!!!
  11. 40 degrees is my cut off. Wind is a factor, but I've practiced in some pretty bad stuff.
  12. I agree that looks matter. I play the AP2's, 4-PW, and when I look down at them from address I know that I am about to hit a club that can do anything my ability wants them to do. Bigger GI irons may go straighter more often but they won't allow you to improve your shot making. I think most golfers who play once a week and hit balls every so often have the skills to play a "players iron" like a Mizuno MP-63 or Titleist AP2. If you can't play that much and don't practice I'd suggest playing a GI or SGI for the fun factor. Golf is as much fun is it is individualistic, play the clubs you like, go play and have fun (there is no wrong equipment as long as your not at the office).
  13. 3 hybrid 8 iron 52* wedge
  14. no putter?
  15. Try using a 17* hybrid if you have trouble hitting a 3w of the turf.
  16. 1. Driver 2. 3hi (20*) 3. 8 iron 4. Gap wedge (52*) 5. Putter I might switch the 3hi for a 5 iron based on course length and conditions.
  17. If you could only play a round with 5 clubs what would they be...?

Jonathan Byrd. Long hitter, deadly irons, great guy.
  19. Balls absolutely matter, they are they only piece of equipment used on every swing. It all works together though, the swing, the lie, the club, and what you want to do with the ball. I think that for most people a mid range ball like the Titleist NXT or NXT Tour or Bridgestone e5, e6, e7, would fit well. Most folks don't have the swing or sharp groves on their wedges to take advantage of the performance that a top end ball (Pro V, B330, etc.) has to offer. I think that sticking with a ball and figuring out its capabilities is the best.
  20. I play a PING G5. It's around 5 yrs old and is just a long and straight as any other club I've hit. I have tried buddies' R9 and SuperTri, 910 D2, 909 D2, and my driver is just as straight. The only difference is shaft, set up, and swing. Drivers now days are maxed out on size and face thinness, the only thing left to change is material and all the adjustable stuff which doesn't really help the "straightness" of the ball flight, mainly just forgiveness.
  21. What I HAVE to have in my bag: 1. Titleist NXT Tour balls 2. Footjoy gloves (at least 2) 3. Tees 4. Water-I drink water like a camel 5. Yardage book
  22. I played The River Club in Pawley's Island, SC. It is equally beautiful as it is tough. Lots of risk/rewards shots over water. Worth every penny.
  23. Only cords...TV full cords for the hot Southern Summers.
  24. I can't wait to buy the D2 10.5* this summer. I hit a buddies and it is so sweet. Feels so much hotter than my G5...
  25. I try to match my clubs the best I can. PING driver and putter, Cobra 3W and 3h, Titleist 4i-GW, Nike 54 and 60. I don't think it really matters what clubs are in the bag as long as you can hit them.
