Which 3/4 wheel push cart should I get?
OldDog66 replied to Zeph's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I had a 3 wheel Bagboy that worked great until I backed over it. Bought a Bagboy Quad last year and have never liked it. Much harder to push than the 3 wheeled version. Recently purchased a Sun Mountain Speed Cart and it is much smoother and has a drink holder that works. -
I started playing golf 9 years ago at age 52. I have held season passes at 3 different courses. One owned by a University but managed privately, one operated by a Park District and one privately owned. I have always received excellent service. I must be lucky.

I have a 17 degree Ping G15 that I use instead of a 5 wood.

Recommendations for push cart ??
OldDog66 replied to inthehole's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have a 4 Wheel Bag Boy. No problems, except it seems to be a little harder to push than my previous 3 wheel Bag Boy. Maybe because the wheels, while lighter are much wider. My 3 wheel one lasted a couple of hundered rounds but it did not survive me backing over it with my car. -
I clean mine by hosing them down, spraying Simple Green on them, scrubbing with a scrub brush and hanging them on the fence to dry. Works great, just did my 2011 St. Louis Cardinals World Series hat yesterday.

Recommend a trolley for a tour bag?
OldDog66 replied to broombroom's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have a regular cart bag and I am on my 2nd Bag Boy. The first one was 4 years old and working fine, until I backed over it with my car. My new one is a Bag Boy Quad but to tell the truth, I liked the 3 wheel version better. -
We don't have them in court either but I bet MI-6 employees take them.

can't chip the ball to save my life
OldDog66 replied to wild819's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I know you can't always do it depending on what is between you and the green, but I tend to chip with much lower lofted clubs. Anywhere from my 8 iron to a 3 hybrid depending on the terrain. -
My favorite is a gift card. That way I can get something I really want. Always my go to suggestion when my daughter inquires.

It may not have been my best shot ever, but it is the one I best remember. I was playing by myself on August 12, 2006. I had been playing for 2 years at this point. I was on the first hole, a par 5 and I hit my drive just off the fairway into a group of different sized trees. As I was walking to my ball, my cell phone rings and my sister is on the phone. She told me that my Dad had just died. I thought about whether I should turn around and head home, but I lived 3 hours from my parents and my Dad had been in hospice for about a week and we had already said our goodbys. So I decided to keep playing. I took out my 3 wood. At this time in my golfing career a 3 wood was a very iffy proposition off the deck. I proceeded to hit is under the overhanging branches of one tree, over the next and about 200 yards down the fairway. The best 3 wood I had hit to date. I finished 9 holes and have no idea what my score was but I will always remember that 3-wood.

DRIVING, on the road or the course BRIDGESTONE

I've never ever hit a golf ball without my glasses on. Currently I wear progressive lens tri-focals and do not have a problem. But then again I am a 20 handicapper so maybe if I could see I would be better. The weird thing is that I hate to wear sunglasses and feel uncormfortable playing if I forget to swtch them out after driving to the course.

What do you guys wear in the winter. What you were in 50-55 degree weather- I wear shorts and a wind shirt. What you were in 30-50 weather- Jeans and a fleece with a t-shirt underneath. If it gets close to 30 or lower it is usually fleece with long sleeve t-shirt of some kind. If windy a jacket over the fleece.

I think you answered your own question. Hit the 3-wood and leave the driver at home. After a couple of rounds you can bring out the driver and see how it goes. If I am on a bad streak with the driver I play a couple of rounds with my 3-wood and when I go back it usually works better. I just wish I could get 260 out of my driver. To get that I need to hit a driver and a sand wedge.

I own one of the original 2 bar putters. I bought it because I thought the ability to change the weights would help. Turns out I never changed the weights that came in it. I tell peole it is the only putter I ever owned where I wasn't looking for another one. Just to make me a liar I recently bought the Antigua because I wanted to try a blade style. I haven't used the mallet since. Very smooth feeling.

In Illinois I play whenever there is no snow on the ground and it is over 20 degrees. All the fair weather golfers are gone. No slow play in the winter.

Mine is the same, except I change my shoes first.

I have never hit a golf shot without my glasses on. I probably could, but then I only take them off to shower and do what I do in bed.

I was 52 years old and had been playing for about 5 months. 480 yd par 5. Hit a nice drive, a 3 wood and a 7 iron (yeah I know not a big hitter) to about 4 feet and then made the putt. Next hole was a 340 yard par 4 and I made an 8. Hell I still remember my first par.

Scotty Cameron putter - shortening the shaft?

In fact, because i now have a preferred grip and preferred alignment i put better. I would say go ahead man, make your putter the way you like it. If you want to spend the money you can go to the Scotty Cameron web site and send it in to get shortened and they will change the weighting to match the new length. -
Is it possible to get to get golf advice overload?
OldDog66 replied to Wisconsin Golfer's topic in Golf Talk
Here are some non-instructional golf books, I've enjoyed: By John Feinstein: The Majors A Good Walk Spoiled Tales from Q School Mark Frost: the Match The Greatest Game Ever Played Grand Slam Rick Reilly: Who's Your Caddy -
Well I worked 30 years as a police officer, retired at 3/4 pay and play 2-3 times a week. The only drawback is that you are old before the golf is easy to schedule.

please..please help me find a 3-wood
OldDog66 replied to kekoa's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I agree with TinCupTampa. I also carry the Tour Edge Exotics 3 wood. One of their most expensive clubs but I hit it better than any previous 3 wood. Luckily I got it from a local shop for $249. I am a Tour Edge fan and have their driver and irons also. -
