  1. I'm going to tell Lorena about this Ben.
  2. Flopdarock is right...it's very difficult to recommend a course if you don't list any criteria. However, greenskeeper.org is a great site that has thousands of reviews of SoCal courses so check that out and see if anything looks interesting to you.
  3. I'm a 14 handicap who has trouble hitting a 13* fairway wood off the deck. I have a set of Titleist 904f's (15* & 19*) and have no trouble hitting them from the fairway. I don't miss the extra yards off the tee I'd get with a 13* FW since I'm pretty accurate with my Ping G2 driver. My 3 wood is used off the tee on narrow fairways and shorter par 4's. The 15*/19* setup is perfect for me.
  4. I have the MX-25 irons and really like them. The stock shafts on the MX23's (dynalite gold) seem to be preferred by many over the dynalite gold superlight shafts in the 25's. Not sure if it is still the case but the MX-23's were Mizuno's best selling irons ever.
  5. No new clubs for me but my wife did buy me a an Ogio Grom bag (black) for Christmas.
  6. I agree with your point here. In fact, I disliked Pro V1's a couple of years ago when I was learning to play and didn't hit straight. Higher spinning balls exaggerated my slice/hook and a distance ball better suited my game. Your post implied that 14 handicaps are hacks and only expert golfers should play quality balls. I'm tired of that type of BS.
  7. I'm a 14 handicap (not a slicer) who plays Pro V1's. Perhaps a less expensive ball will perform just as well for me but why should you care? Golf is my hobbie and I'll buy the balls and equipment I damn well please.
  8. Until recently I played driver, 3 wood, and 2 hybrid. I just added a 5 wood and removed the 2H and it seems to be working well for me. The 5 wood is easy to hit off the deck and has a higher launch than the hybrid. Although a well struck 2H is very accurate and has a piercing flight I wasn't very consistent with it. I may not be much help as a mid handicap but these are my observations.
  9. It's probably karma for calling Norm "juvenile"
  10. I'm a 14 handicap who plays the MX-25's with the stock TT Dynalite SL shafts (R) and I really like them. They aren't as forgiving as some game improvement irons but they provide great feedback. My previous set of irons where Ping G2's (good game improvement irons) but I much prefer the Mizuno's. As other have stated the MX23's and MX200 are probably equally good choices.
  11. They are very stylish placebos. If they "work" for you then it's money well spent.
  12. We don't have winter or rain in the Palm Springs area.
  13. I struggle with a driver swing plane that is too flat which results in inconsistency and pulled shots (for me). The flatter swing plane is comfortable for me but unless my timing is dead on it makes for a frustrating day of golf.
  14. You're not dumb, you are just the first conservative Canadian I've encountered. I thought both the Canadian Liberal Party and the Canadian Conservative Party are considered left of center when compared to the US political spectrum. I golf with Canadian snowbirds during the winters in the Palm Springs area and they are usually warm, friendly, and have good sense of humors. They especially like to poke fun at Mr. Bush.
  15. I would try to leave myself a 100-110 yard shot over a risky 3 wood or delicate wedge shot so I vote c)
  16. I'd try to convince you to buy a gps unit instead. Easier to use (no pointing and shooting),they give you front/middle/and back distances of the green, they work on blind shots and will even recommend layup distances. They even tell you what time it is and can tell you how far (or short) you hit a shot.
  17. I agree with this statement but still believe there is a lot of exaggeration going on. Many people go with their best distances instead of averages and are more likely to round up than round down.
  18. Driver: 225 3wood: 205 2Hybrid:190 3Hybrid:180 4iron: 170 5iron: 160 6iron: 150 7iron: 140 8iron: 130 9iron: 120 PW: 110 GW: 90 SW: 75
  19. I agree with this poster. I'm a 14 handicap who has experimented with different set ups and I do best when I leave the lob wedge at home. I carry PW, Gap wedge and Sand wedge.
  20. My index is 13.5 Fairways: 64% (accurate off the tee but average drive is only 220 yds) GIR: 29% Putts: 1.88 per hole or 33.8 per round My short game needs to improve if I'm going to reach my goal of becoming a single digit handicap by next year.
  21. If it works for people with bad backs or those who want to keep their grips dry that is great. My back is in good shape (knock on wood) and I live in the desert so wet conditions rarely exist. I wouldn't buy one but I surely wouldn't criticize someone who does.
  22. I like the Dynalite superlight shafts on my Mizuno MX-25's. Some of the better golfers seem to like the heavier shafts that produce a lower ball flight but the superlights work great for me. They increase my swing speed, get the ball up easily and I'm not tired after playing 18. By the way, I love my MX-25's and I'm sure the MX-200's are great clubs as well.
  23. My pocket already has: ball markers, tees, golf balls, and a divot repair tool. The last thing I'd want to tote around is a giant clothespin so I don't have to bend over to pick up a club I left on the fringe. If you want something light weight and easy to ship how about those magnetic molecular therapy golf bracelets. Now those are usefull :)
  24. I really like my Titleist 904f which I picked up last month.
  25. I'd recommend a hybrid unless you hit your 3 iron well. I'm a 14 handicap and play two hybrids because I'm inconsistent with long irons. Also, many higher handicaps have an easier time hitting a 4 wood off the deck than a 3 wood. I wouldn't recommend a 60 degree lob wedge over a fairway wood and/or hybrid....your sand wedge will work just fine for shots around the green.
