I used to hunt a lot when I lived back in Georgia where I grew up. I haven't hunted much since I left home. My father-in-law keeps trying to take me hunting but he's the type of guy who will eat just about damn near anything and I'm afraid of what we might be cooking up for the evening if I do go hunting with him.

I'd need a big gold medallion to wear on a huge gold chain around my neck, a gold tooth, and a hat with a perfectly flat bill to wear those.

1. No equipment changes. I'm happy with my current setup. 2. Over the winter I'm going to hit the weights hard to improve my strength while continuing to throw in cardio on off days. 3. Probably not, but we'll see how things go early next season. I finally have a stable schedule so I should be able to work in a consistent practice routine. 4. Get into single digit handicap and beat my brother-in-law. I'll get more specific after this season when I develop all of my goals and come up with a game plan.

getting fit for clubs in particular driver
srjorion replied to binga7's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
A club fitter should be fitting clubs to your swing at all times and not trying to change your swing. -
Find a shop that has demo clubs you can check out and take to the driving range or even the course. Try one loft/shaft combo then go back and get a different one and try that one. I was going to go with a 10.5 but could quickly tell that was too much loft for me. Regular shaft quickly showed itself as not enough. It was easy to zone in on the right loft/shaft combo. If there is an Edwin Watts near you they should have demo clubs.

Love Hardees biscuits! Blizzards are my favorite fast food dessert.

I'm a Del Taco fan, but it didn't make my list as one of my favorites. Growing up in Georgia we had one in our home town and then it closed and a Taco Bell opened in its place. It was years before I finally got to eat at one again. It was different, but I do like Del Taco better myself. Now I have one less than a mile from my house! I have to restrain myself though and only eat there about once a month. Stuff sticks to my ribs a little too easy with age!

I just got done with my new iron fitting!
srjorion replied to kpaulhus's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I did the same thing at Edwin Watts three years ago and it has helped me tremendously. I'm glad you reminded me, I have a 10% off coupon to use this month myself and have a new bag in mind! -
A couple of us had Zaxby's on our list. They have them in Georgia around Atlanta. I had one near my place when I lived there and tried hard not to eat there more than once a week. I loved their chicken fingers. There is a place in New Orleans called Raising Cane that specializes in only chicken fingers and Zaxby's is much better. Their other food is good too.

I've never had them, but considering it's a Mexican fast food joint I would say they aren't experts at fries. I would guess that a McDonald's Taco wouldn't be so hot either I'm not a big fan of the In N Out fries either. They definitely have to be hot and fresh, and I usually add more salt to them. SRJ

Spot on advice! And then there are those 17-25 times a round when you don't and you end up missing greens, hitting bunkers, putting the ball into a hazard, etc.. You have to play your percentages. You might be surprised to find that if you slow it down a little that you start making better contact and have a lot more of those that are juuust right.
-
Bottom line, if you have a lot of natural talent and you can move your head around during your swing and still make solid contact, go for it. If not, practice keeping a steady head on the range and ingrain that feeling into your swing so it is more natural on the course. One thing I do is to not focus so much on keeping my head still but instead I focus on keeping my sight picture of the ball the exact same through the backswing until after impact. I don't want to see the ball move left or right in my field of view, and I don't want it to get closer or further away. I try to see my divot being formed, then I stop worrying about keeping the view the same. It does the same exact thing as keeping your head still, but it helps me more than just trying to not move my head. SRJ

I agree with Iacas and pittpanther. Even for those missed greens, there is a big difference between being just barely off the green and ten feet or more. Obviously you want more GIRs, but your up/down percentage will drop some if your misses aren't as bad. Of course it helps to give yourself a bigger target by aiming at the center of the green too. I do every time.

People who cheat don't care to be able to truly measure themselves against the course or par. I could care less if they do as long as it's not in a tournament. I don't cheat because I want to know my true performance and be proud that when I improve it is honest improvement.

No, that time is half golf and half family time. I need extra golf! Seriously, I definitely take a day of vacation every so often and play golf and do other things. Sometimes it's nice to be able to get some work in for a day and break off early to play golf. I completely agree. I'm assuming my boss tried golf, sucked at it, and never got to the point where he was having a great round and wound up ripping a drive right down the middle of the fairway on the 18th hole.

How often are you able to sneak away from the office for a day or get out a little early for golf? Two bosses ago for me we did it all the time. My boss would have me schedule a golf morning or afternoon once every few months. Other times I would have all of my work done and could break away for nine or 18 holes. My current boss isn't into golf. Actually, to quote him, he said "golf is for people who are allergic to adrenaline." I knew I was in trouble when he said that. I had the opportunity to play in an awesome Pro-Am for free and he wouldn't let me go. There was also a scramble tournament put on by one of the organizations we work with and he wanted to wait until the afternoon the day prior before deciding whether or not he would let me go. That was obviously too late to join. I'm thinking I may have to get creative to get a day here or there to sneak off. SRJ

In 'N' Out Chik-fil-a Zaxby's I had heard about In 'N' Out for a few years but never been to one until I moved out here to Salt Lake a few months ago. Wow! I've been to a Five Guys before and they are good, but not as good as In 'N' Out. I grew up near the original Chik-fil-a. The fast food version isn't as good as the original, but I still love them. Only lived near one Zaxby's before, awesome place. SRJ

Ring of power? All Carl Spackler got was total conciousness on his death bed. I'd be a little upset myself.

I remember seeing an interview with one of the announcers (can't remember who) where they mentioned specific terms they have to use and how hard it is to get it right sometimes. One of them was "hole position". Apparently they had to say that and couldn't say "flag stick" or something similar.

About two years into playing golf I was on a short Par 3 that was downhill. The course wasn't very good and had a lot of rocky bare spots in various places. I hit my tee shot and it went about 50 yds. to the right. It wound up hitting some rocks and bounced hard towards the green, rolled up to the pin and bounced off, ending up about six inches away from the hole. Like the last poster, I'm glad it didn't go in either because I wouldn't want that to be my only hole-in-one. SRJ

I think my cholesterol count went up 50 points just looking at that last one SRJ

I watched my brother-in-law put it three feet from the pin on his second shot into a Par 5 and then three putt from there once.

Short game and driving are two areas you can make great gains in lowering scores. As far as pulling driver out off the tee, here's a great example of why that's not always the best option for you. Yesterday, I played with my brother-in-law at a course that was new to both of us. On a Par 5 there was a lake on the left side of the fairway that started at 230 yds from the tee and ended about 270 yds from the tee. I hit about 240-250 average off the tee. I elected to take my 3 Hybrid and take the lake out of play. My brother-in-law, who hits the ball extremely far, started heckling me for using my hybrid off the tee. I lay up, he hits well past the lake. I hit my second shot using the 3H again, giving me 120 to the pin. He hits a 5I left of the green. He was actually trying to lay up but hit it further than he expected. I put my third shot 20 ft. from the pin, he has a poor chip and leaves himself 9 ft. from the pin. I barely (and I mean just barely) miss my putt and have a tap in par. He misses his putt and has three feet coming back. He made his putt. He hit his ball probably 120 yds further off the tee than I did and we both made par. Bottom line, play to your strengths, and don't always assume hitting the ball a longer distance is the best answer. Oh, and practice that short game. SRJ
