  1. You might want to check 2004 Ryder Cup at Oakland Hills.. and the OWGR for Sept of that year as well.. Vijay Singh might come to mind.. Just saying..
  2. You made me chuckle.. I know Mark's nickname.. Mark It'Neara, because he gained a reputation of CHEATING when marking and remarking his ball on the greens.. LOL Someone should of told Mark how easy it is for cameras to pick up the slightest thing.. Anyways.. GHoF is more of a popularity award then anything, which is no different then other sports HoF.. There is more to a career then just statistics.. Fred may not of had the record we all wish he had, but given his back problems, I'm glad to see him inducted..
  3. Being the best is all relative to the time.. Comparing athletes from one generation to another, or even from one team to another is just silly drama.. YES, Some sports stars are better then others, but when it comes to the elite players, it's all subjective BS.. Such as golf.. Did Tiger, Rory or Phil have to deal with life during the depression? or thru WW2? NO.. We have no clue how any of today's stars would of been without their swing coaches, and technology advancements. Not all things are equal in sports current, past or between generations.. Debating about who is the best is like arguing over which color or food is the best.. It's just opinions.. nothing more..
  4. I remember that hole.. I call it the Z hole.. I played it 5 iron off the tee, hybrid down the middle with a short iron to the green.. No short cuts here.. Black Diamond in Millersburg has a par 6, and plays over 700 from the tips..
  5. Probably cuz in my area, Lawncare runs about $50 for a 30 minute job.. I'm sure the beer cart girls or waitresses aren't making that kind of coin.. just saying.
  6. In past years I normally played the Titleist ProV1x.. However since switching to yellow balls, I'm now playing the NXT tour, or the Ssrixon..
  7. I play by the rules when in a competitive round.. However, when I'm not I play to what "I" feel is right for the time.... Such as: A tee shot finds the rough, about 10-20 yards off the fairway.. YOU know there is no hazard around, but unable to find it.. I don't expect anyone to go back to the tee and rehit (stroke and distance), To me that just slows down play.. Often if our group feels the ball is just lost because of too many leaves on the ground as an example.. NO penalty at all, but play a new ball where we all suspect it to have landed.. For me.. I have 2 sets of rules.. One for competitive play, USGA.. and One for me leisure play.. GO PLAY!!
  8. The odds of it happening are slim.. According to the blind matching.. HOWEVER, since the Ryder Cup is mostly about TV ratings and drama, I wouldn't be surprised if somehow Rory and Tiger get matched mysteriously.. I remember awhile back when David Duval called the Ryder Cup an exhibition match, I think I concur with that.. It's most like some form of ALL-Star TV show, then it is about golfing and winning..
  9. Just got back from playing Apple Valley.. Really enjoyed myself.. Condition of the course was A-, design of course is good.. I give it a solid B+.. The employees were great... Our group played this for the first time and willing to drive back again to play it.. Next new course I want to hit and test out if Kennington? in the Youngstown area.. It's not on anyone's top list, but hear it's worth the drive and time..
  10. Van Pelt T10.. now go away lil boy...
  11. WAAAAAAAAAA... My boyfriend Tiger isn't being treated like a King anymore.... Man crushes are so childish..
  12. EXACTLY.. thank you for the facts.. Davis said he was going with the "HOT" pick.. Obviously he wasn't.. It was a personal favor pick (period).. I personally think Van Pelt was the better pick.... OH.. Where is Bo this week at the BMW? :)
  13. This will be interesting.. Coppertop is one of the courses that our group votes to repeat.. It's a drive for us, but considering the price of play, it's a steal.. Great clubhouse as well.. I hope the same management is able to revitalize Blue Heron.. I often got the feeling Blue Heron truly wanted to go private years ago, but couldn't get any members to pay for it.. The Quarry I believe wanted to go the same route, but no takers.. Personally I would go back to BH again if they would just clean up the bunkers, do some tweaking here and there, and keep the price reasonable..
  14. I'm really surprised where people come up with these list.. I'm from the Canton area and "The Quarry" is very overpriced and over hyped.. There are other public courses in the Stark and Summit county area that I and others would rather play then The Quarry.. Then you add in the Cleveland Metro courses.. I played Manakiki this past summer and was disappointed after reading all the reviews about it.. It's a good course with clubhouse but for a Ross design, again feeling let down.. Our traveling group decided to not return anytime soon.. Manakiki was disappointing enough that we are reluctant to try Sleepy Hollow.. Then you have your Hanlin courses.. Stonewater, Little Mnt and Cumberland.. Stonewater went back to being private this year before I had a chance to play it, but did play Little Mnt. last year and won't be back.. It has a great clubhouse, but condition of the course was poor.. Many of the greens were pitted and damaged, lack of sand in their enormous traps.. This course like so many others on these "top course" list are great for the camera, but are only average for play.. Let me not forget my experience with Longaberger.. Great clubhouse and facility, but actual course play was B+ at best.. Again, our traveling group went their last year for the first time due from the hype and will not be back, even using current discounts.. This is not to say that these so called top courses are poor hack field, but they fall short in justifying their price on green fees.. There are many hidden gems out there never mentioned in any top review.. As to why they go unnoticed is beyond me, but it is what it is, I guess.. Our traveling league plays more then 30 courses per year, and we have found our best are often ones never found on a list.. Each year we vote on which 25 to return, while spending the other 5 weeks on "New Blood".. So in conclusion.. I would be skeptical on most public course reviews, and give anything with a "C" rating or better a chance.. PS.. Blue Heron is closed.. I played it a couple years back before it closed.. First and only time there I shot a 73.. Amazing clubhouse, however course condition was good from tee to green, but sand traps were horrible.. I would rather play out of my cats litter then their bunkers.. Other thing that killed Blue Heron is it is completely "target" golf play.. You better be a skilled player that can go from one target area to another, or you'll get eaten up by the waste areas.. The average bogey golfer loses too many balls on that course..
  15. Personally.. Love lost brownie points in my book..... If you look at the year's stats, Mahan deserved the pick over Furyk.. If you look at recent play for July and Aug, as Davis Love said he was doing.. VAN PELT beat them both.. I lost respect for Davis bs'ing us.. He picked Jim and Steve based on "personal" reasons.... PERIOD.. To paint it anything other then what it was is just being dishonest.. Shame on you Davis for excusing your Furyk pick..
  16. You mean like 14 year old Andy Zhang that almost made the men's cut this year?
  17. Personally I hate the WGR system.. It shouldn't take anything into consideration past a 52 week window.. I don't mind the scaled points as results become older, but not weekly.. I would like to see the result be done by quarter.. All results from quarter to quarter are weighted equally.. I also am not a fan of giving a winner and undue advantage on points.. I would like to see WGR tweak their point system similar to NASCAR, where steady and consistency is rewarded more so..
  18. Now if only Tiger can do the same with the LPGA.. There is a league that gets no lovin.. 100th rank PGA men's tour makes about 800k a year..... Ladies 100th ranked player gets less then 40K.. Something to think about..
  19. I play in a traveling Wednesday league.. This year we hit 35 different courses... I love it :)
  20. You're telling me.. Not sure why it says that.. I should be 2.0, atleast that is what I thought I typed.. I guess I should fix that
  21. I agree.. I may have a selective memory, but it always seems it's that vets that can't hold their own.. I like what Ricky did in 2010 and I too would like to see more fresh young blood that WANTS to be there, then this entitlement "old" veteran approach.. If I was Capt..without looking at their recent performance, I'd pick Ricky, Hunter, Dustin and Bo..
  22. Honestly, if it was me.. I'd stay home and watch it HD on TV.. This way you won't miss any action, whereas if you were there live, you would surely miss shots here and there.. I'd save the money.. :)
  23. My lowest was at http://www.rivergreens.com/course/ Blue tees on the River & Greens.. Par 72 and was playing around 6400 that day.. 71.1 / slope 120.. I shot 32 on the River nine, and 35 on the Green's nine for a 67 (-5) under.. Funny part about that is that I shot that at age 48, not when I was much younger in my prime, so to speak.. However, I knew the course well, so familiarity was a bonus.. There have been multiple times I felt I had better rounds at harder venues with higher scores.. but 67 was my lowest..
  24. Firestone is anything but boring.. A 2D areal view doesn't do it justice.. Granted that course isn't tricked out with railroad ties and other putt putt obstacles.. but it is one of the favorite stops on tour for a reason.. I've enjoyed playing it, and equally enjoyed watching the Pros play it.. As the old saying goes, "you just have to be there"..
  25. They at least made it to the show.. More then I can say for myself.. I give them credit for any limited time they played.. I would of loved to finish 3rd at least ONCE on the PGA.. I never got a sense of arrogance from them, in fact I get the sense of "I was a hack" from Charlie.. lol
