  1. Realy ? So you think there are over 200+ Joe Lacava's and Steve Williams elite caddies out there? So that every pro has access to the same talent of caddies.. The point I'm making is that having an elite caddy is not available to everyone, and it does give those Pro's that can afford one, an unfair advantage.. To deny that is being disingenuous at best..
  2. Thing is.. Tiger made more longer putts then anyone did Friday.. Isn't it funny how when a normal putter makes them, it equates to good putting.. However, soon as a long putter has a good day, "it's cheating".. Look how many players with longer putters missed alot of short puts (aka Scott), but that goes unnoticed or you don't hear anything about "I guess the longer putter isn't all that great"..
  3. If it was up to me.. I'd ban ALL caddies..... They talk about anchoring giving players an advantage... HELLO.. Having an elite caddy gives you WAY more of an advantage then any belly putter.. I find it hypocritical of elite pro's whining about the advantages or spirit of the game while hiring and keeping one of few elite caddies in the world.... Is golf a solo sport.. or a team sport?
  4. WOW.. so your thinking is that anyone that doesn't praise Tiger is a hater? Really? Is that how your world revolves around absolutes of "lover and hater" and no grey in between.. Tiger is NOT golf and Golf is NOT Tiger.. Your last part is the most reveling part "he's the only needle-mover in the game".... Charlie Sheen is a needle mover too, and that doesn't make him the best actor in the industry or a reason to LOVE him.. Think about it.. My stance has always been to promote the game of golf and no ONE man is more important then the game..
  5. OP.. you bring up a topic that has always turned me OFF from TV golf.. I'm so sick and tired of the TV talk heads yapping about swing mechanics and analyzing everything.. OMG, if I have to watch ONE more super slow motion replay of a swing while some washed up PRO tells me about the swing.. I'm going to puke.. LOL Of the 2 leagues I play in, it's amazing how many do not watch golf on TV, and why.. They all say the same thing.. TOO much yip yapping about nothing, and not enough golfing..
  6. 73... par 71 slope 120 - 70.2 I could kick myself because I started off terrible with 3 bogies in the first 4 holes.. and still felt that I left some birdies out there.. but oh well.. It was fun playing with the usual gang as always
  7. Bob Costas in drag would be better then Kelly.. LOL
  8. Pete Dye started off as a Jekyl then turned to Hyde.. Pete's earlier designs were "normal", meaning that a variety of players could enjoy the course, but there was nothing that stood out that made you write home about.. As for the courses in the last 15 years, Pete has gone mental.. LOL As Phil put it, it's penal target golf.. The pro's can deal with it, but for the average player, they are bad designs, and I agree.. Not sure why today's designers are into this "Pimp my course" mentality.. I like a course designer that allows holes to be played high and drop, or bump and run, or anything in between..
  9. I just don't get what Furyk was trying to do on 18.. It was the amateur mistake I make all the time.. He didn't have a clear shot at the pin because of his drive being down the left hand side of the fairway.. So, he decides to draw it around.. UMMM Jim... Why not take out a club that DOESN'T bring the back bunkers / rough into play, just in case you don't draw it around into that small area where the pin is.. Play safe.. Take 1/2 club less, put the ball in the fat part of the green, and 2 putt......
  10. Who the hell cares about Tiger? Really!.. Dudes!.. I"m just hoping for a fun and exciting tourney where most everyone plays well.. MORE GOLF, and less BS from the media is my hope from the PGA Championship..
  11. It depends on the course naturally... I have played courses that are around 6200 that give me more fits then some that are 7000.. Depends on elevation changes, doglegs, hazards.. BUT.. Most importantly it depends whom I'm playing with.. I play whatever tee boxes the rest of the group is playing from.. I'm normally comfortable around the 6700 category..
  12. Mine is still Boo / Vijay's commercial and how can we all not love this one..
  13. Maybe Tiger should use a belly putter while jugging down a 5 hour energy drink..
  14. I've always avoided watching that show.. It's more of a advertisement then anything else..
  15. I buy white tees in bulk, so that I can customize them for the fun of it with spray paint..I love bright light pink the best.. (yes, I'm a big supporter of breast cancer research) and I pick up tees all the time that are left behind by others.. It's amazing how many golfers do that..
  16. OH geesh.. let me see if I can remember back that far.. LOL I started golf summer of '79.. Made Jr varsity team that fall.. I spent my entire summer of '80 playing 90 holes a week and practicing at home.. So I would say it took me 1 year to shoot in the 70's, and by that fall I was breaking par.. My handicap going into college that following year was 1.7 for 18 holes.. I never had any formal training or instructing.. What I did use back in those days was a glass screen door that reflected my swing or stance.. Much like a mirror.. It's estimated that to learn any swing, rather it be throwing a ball, kicking or swinging something requires repetition of a few thousand times.. This is your muscle memory.. To do that, I would use an old broom stick cut down to the size of a 5 iron.. I would swing and swing and swing that stick at little pebbles in the drive way.. or a chalk dot I put there.. What this did for me was allow me to aim for a small target at just the right pressure to leave a mark on the concrete (showing the path of my swing) without hitting the concrete too hard (chunking it) or missing it all together (skulling it).. I still to this date feel it's one of the cheapest ways of working on your swing at home..
  17. I always put the club "IN" the cart.. Never in a bag, as so I don't forget it's there.. Then drop the club off at the clubhouse at the soonest moment..
  18. Same here, and depends if you are playing for yourself, or have team mates.. Depends if there is a stake involved.. League play for team championship, I probably lay up unless I'm behind.. etc etc.. But if we are talking pure "for shits and giggles" fun play... I say grip it & rip it..
  19. Glad you enjoyed yourself.. However, I'm not sure why you are being so hard on those that don't feel it's worth it.. Worth is relative and subjective.. I've had $100 and $150 meals and found them to be way over priced and over hyped.. Just like most resort and private courses.. Humans love feeling like part of the "in" crowd.. For me,, no meal is worth more then $30 (Lobster), just like NO golf course is worth more then $50 per round.. But that is just me.. I wouldn't pay $3,000 for a designer suit either..
  20. In my opinion.. NO caddies.. This is mono o' mono.. The players should carry their own clubs (carry the big staff bag if you want).. The only time you get coaching is between rounds.. From what I heard so far is that the field will be 60 players in a 72 hole stroke play.. Men and Women seperately.. There is no announcement of "team" play.. As one person implied, NCAA format.. it works for me :) I will be very very disappointed if they operate this like normal pro events.. I would like to see a team option, but my gut tells me it would be too demanding of the course unless they use multiple courses.. Here you go for the official news.. http://golf.about.com/od/tourmajorevents/f/olympicformatfield.htm Because of this.. is why I don't think there will be a team option.. because as they already said.. some countries may only have 1 golfer, some 2 and some ALOT more .. It's an individual event I'm afraid...
  21. Maybe so.. but that didn't stop the pros from switching to drivers the size of a double wide trailer..
  22. I prefer to play it down.. Not only is that the rule, but I also find I play better as well.. Why is that? Because I find myself concentrating harder on the swing knowing I have a tricky lie.. Too many times when you think you have a cake lie, you end up shanking the shot because of lack of concentration.. The only time I fluff or move the ball is when unusual ground conditions warrant it, such as a fairway lined with goose droppings and your ball is tee'd up on one.. LOL
  23. Regardless if you anchor the putter or not, you still have to make the stroke.. All I hear is that anchoring help minimize the yips of putting.. WELL? So does reverse gripping, but no one is crying about that.. There have been many Pro's that said they wish they started off reverse gripping in the beginning because it's much better then standard grip.. BTW.. Many pro's such as Tiger also prefer interlocking grips versus using a baseball type of grip, because it reduces the OOPS shots..... UMMM Isn't that what anchoring does? Hypocrit? just saying..
  24. ALL things being equal.. North is harder.. There is just more danger in play.. If I had my way at Bridgestone.. I would increase the field size to 150+ and use both North and South.. and cut the field in 1/2 after Friday.. Then play north on Saturday, and south on Sunday.. :)
  25. Some are actually adding NEW tee boxes for the ladies and youngins.. lol Which I support 110%.. My wife LOVES the sport, but asking her to play it as a par 72, 5200 yrds is too much to ask.. I always found it funny that a typical par 4 playing 350 yards, and the ladies get a 20-50 yard discount... Really? I've always wondered how designers calculate what the tee box distances should be.. When I go looking for a course for my wife and I to play on. I'm looking for yardage tees that are under 5,000 with minimal "carries".. How many kids and ladies can hit 150 yr carries? NOT many..
