Way to hot in Alabama right now. From a friend who lives in the area, over 100 heat index, no fans in attendance, and they cannot get any volunteers.
-
You too! So many times I see folks pissed off as they are loading their clubs in the car. Listen, unless you are getting paid to play golf, have fun. My son (3) all he wants to do is play ball. We have a blast.
-
Probably not good enough to give a good response, but I like the firm feel. I try to use the rule of 12 (13) when chipping, so I don't want the ball to check up. Putts feel the same. All guess work outside of 5 ft anyway.

Love dirty country while playing. Certain songs get me fired up to make a shot. Played with my son today, and work phone has no songs Technology is getting so outrageous, my best friend basically has surround sound. 2 posts in one day, prob a record!

I play Top-Flite's D2 Straight, for no other reason than I like the price and the box. (blue) I pick up NXT's, and give the Pro V1's from my yard to my buddies, who have no business playing them. If I can finish hole # 1 tomorrow, with an NXT, I will break my record. 54 holes with the same ball. Old record a TF Straight.

Me Best Friend Dufner Steve Spurrier

Been playing with some friends of my brother on a weekly basis recently, and they asked me the same thing. Told them some observations. Chip with something other than a PW/SW. Quit taking soooo many practice swings. 1 max, 2 on "feel" shots Quit lining up putts from both directions. Play more than you practice. The best piece of advice though that got me over the hump. Act like you care. Tuck in your shirt. Play in clean shoes. Assign a place in your bag for each club, and keep it. (Big on this one). Repair pitch marks and "sand" divots. Do this and don't keep score for a while. Just enjoy it. When you feel you are ready, keep score. In other words, don't do what you have always done, and expect to get magically better.

Young People not Playing. Golf Leagues Shrinking
MexBurtReynolds replied to CoachinPA's topic in Golf Talk
Interesting responses. Play in a league for the chamber. Our team is paid for by the company. Thursdays @ 4:30. Everyon e on the team knows that if both machines are down, nobody will golf that day. Has not happened on a Thur yet. I'm 38, 2 others @ 22. One at 40 , and alternate at 39. Most of the folks in the league are from the plant next to us and younger guys. Not a good representative sample though. South of I-10 in AL. Lot more laid back down here. Semi-related. Most salary folks, myself included, never take our full vacation at my plant. -

Bought the flatso 5 last night, and used it in the first league play event of the year today. No practice, and was completely blown away. Did not miss anything inside 10 ft. Amazing, and did really not feel weird. Almost impossible to get "wristy". -
1 bottle of water 4 beers if playing 9 - will play to 9, then one for the ride home (on course). 6 beers if playing 18 Trying to capture the 3-4 beer buzz the entire round. Football season, will bring a 12 pack and listen to pregame on radio Golfed a few times with a box of wine, interesting effects.

Oh my, how times have changed. McDonalds had a "General Lee" happy meal. Does this really bother you? FTW, I am not a bubba fan either.

Bogey Golfers Only (Index 16-22) / Breaking 90 Topic
MexBurtReynolds replied to rkim291968's topic in Golf Talk
Pretty good thread. I read about half, so sorry if this has been posted. Take pride in your appearance. Had a golf pro point out that I had on a collared shirt that looked like I was still in college, frayed collar, possibly some holes. Untucked into a pair of shorts that looked like I had just done yard work. Shoes covered in mud/grass. Next round, showed up in a freshly laundered shirt, tucked into a nice pair of shorts, and cleaned my shoes. 1st time I ever broke 80. Dress that way all the time now. Also, he asked me how many times I repaired my divots. Never was my answer. Take care of the course and it will take care of you was the advice. -
2014 WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral Discussion Thread

I'm in Alabama (& you)....even though I have it, don't know how to use it. Just have this hang-up, can't watch sports after they already happened. I'm the only person in the world who has not seen a replay of the IB. Personal goal is to be so rich I can watch golf and play golf at the same time. Any techies around? I do own an I-pad? With daylight savings, will probably play and just catch the last 10mins. Duff & Tiger in a playoff. Someone yells rtr in Duff's backswing. -
I made 5 posts in the South Alabama golfing thread.....so there. I only post about what I know about. (not golf) Let me think of a good thread.

Watch Dufner tomorrow or play a round? Tough decision. -
Thanks. I have never been right or given good advice on any message board before. You are going to be a in a beautiful area, but not really close to anything. There is a Tacky Jacks about 5 mins away. I don't go that far down Ft Morgan road often. All I can advise is the rest of Gulf Shores. Everything will be close to the same, can't really go wrong with fried seafood. The Oyster House - excellent Shrimp Basket - I eat here about 1/wk. Get out for $10 person Mikee's - a nicer Shrimp Basket LuLu's - owned by Jimmy buffet's sister, expect to pay a lot. Folks at work & my wife like it. Orange Beach - about 30 mins Cobalt JW Finz Tin Top - also about 30 mins away. Everyone raves about this place. Have not personally been though. If your first time down, go to the Flora-Bama. Not for food though. Watch out for last weekend in April though.
-
Ok....you are about 20 mins from Gulf Shores. You will pass two courses on your way to where you are staying. Peninsula and Gulf Shores Golf Club. Both are about $50 after 3. GSGC might be $50 after 12. I have never played GSCG, so cannot give any advice. Let me know if you need some eating recommendations.
-
Within 15 mins of Gulf Shores - Foley Golf Club - $26 for 18 w/ cart Orange Beach Golf Center - $20 - 9 hole par 3 w/cart Magnolia Springs Par 3 - $14.99 all day - kind of a weird place No need to stop by the bank.
-
Maybe we should ask the OP's skill level. Lost Key is very penal. They will let you play as a single though. Plus, if driving from Gulf Shores, he can stop at the Bama after and check out the "scenery". Should be spring break and all.
-
Kiva Dunes is awesome. Peninsula is good I would stay away from the state park. No first-hand knowledge, but just what I hear. Drive 8 miles into FL and play Lost Key. My favorite course down this way. Bring a lot of balls. Tell them you are local and play for 1/2 price. They don't check ID. Drive 2 miles past Lost Key and play Perdido Bay. Also a very fun course. http://www.golf.gulfshores.com/play/

Can I get in on this SEC Football/Golf debate? Maybe one day we can have a Dufner, Cauley, & Toms playoff.
