I got the TMX stand bag - i never carry it but it's good quality and looks great. Might want something a little lighter if you're carrying all the time

In light of the below thread "why didn't Padraig chip out sideways" it seems that Tiger Woods has been fined: http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/pga/new...v=ap&type;=lgns Harrington appears to be just getting on with it - Woods is out of pocket but only by a little. I'd prefer to see them fining him for spitting and conduct unbecomming of a sports star. Last group of a WGC - the massive crowds following them, making players rush sucks...
-
Has anyone mentioned that they were put on the clock? Harrington rushed that 2nd shot - it was a poor attempt. Is it fair to put some final group on the clock? When it's Tiger and the crowd is 10 deep there is added noise and movement. Harrington was notoriously slow at one time and has been on the clock a good few times but he has gotten quicker. Don't think he "crumbled" as stated above. Found himself in some tricky spots and was unable to make the shots. He went for broke and it didn't work. If anyone was watching it rather than looking at the end result they'll know that Harrington was caught, overtaken and then he bounced back to be one ahead with 3 to play. As Harrington has said to Woods "we'll do battle plenty more times" - would be sweet to get one back on him next week.
-
Harrington has that glazed look in his eye when he's eyeing down an iron torpedoed at the flag (even on 16 when he took bogey). He's never been beaten when he's that focused. Really looking forward to it - he's beaten Tiger going down the stretch before and that was before he won 3 majors.

Opening Ceremony will be on Thurs so make sure you go early to see some golf. I went on Tuesday in 2006 - was amazing. Saw everyone. Photos and videos (look on youtube). Weather was great (it rained every other day that week). People who went Wednesday were disappointed as the Americans went out on the back 9 in a 12 ball and hit approach shots only or something crazy. The fans weren't happy. On the Tuesday both everyone from teams played every hole. We arrived at around 7:30 and Woods & Furyk had already played 4 holes. So be early! Bring a camera, get yourself in a good position behind a tee or something, stay there for an hour and you'll get your money's worth. They were strict on phones but cameras were ok.

3 Wood or 4 Wood for my new R9 Fairway??
hawkeye replied to jamvr10's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
take a look at your other clubs - pick something that'll be in between. I got the 3 wood - in between my driver (10.5) and 5 wood (19). Would maybe have looked at getting the 4 wood if I was only getting one wood. I love the 5 wood - gets in the air real quick and great out of all lies. 3 wood is great for tee shots where accuracy is paramount. I guess the 4 wood would be a mix. -
Used to have a Taylormade Tour Launch Burner (2008) 5 wood with 17.5 degrees loft. Was basically a 4 wood. Which was too close to my 5 wood so changed it.

according to Sergio himself on youtube/pga tour, what's in the bag, he has a 10.5 with it set to R (open) which gives him a 8.5 degree face. i've just set mine to NU (the smaller version) - playing some links this weekend - keeping it low :)

+1 playing the last in the British Open. If she keeps that up she'll be there or thereabouts on Sunday and might just qualify. I voted yes.

Ever wonder if it's the indian and not the arrows? I find the Tour Preferred to be very responsive, forgiving (for a small club with minimal offset) and good from ever lie. I didn't think they agreed with me at first but I gave them time. After all - the guys who fitted me really know what they're talking about and they said I was going to love this club. The KBS shafts are brilliant too. It's very easy to blame the clubs when you shoot in the 90's. You're playing off a handicap of 7? Thought you'd be able to break 90 with any irons. Feel or no feel. Missing a green should only be one drop shot for you. Were you driving it in the rough? Shanking it? Hitting it into water hazards or OB?

Had the Ping Hoover Vantage in college - was perfect. Small, light, versitile. Just got a TM TMX Stand bag as a replacement - it's a better bag and way nicer looking. Got it because I like having a stand but don't carry my clubs much. Like going to the range which i do a lot - it's good to have a carry bag to walk down to the short game area. Or if I'm just playing 9 it's good. It's a heavier bag but still works :) I don't like bags being too heavy but this is fine, even with umbrella!

Furyk, Perry, Allenby and Milka Singh - 4 strikers of the golf ball. I'd watch them all day! If you look at them at impact they're all pretty damn near perfect.

that shot on 17 could do it for him. up and down and he's favourite. he can now determine his own destiny - westwood will hardly birdie the last after that tee shot.

Went and got myself fitted this year - my PW was a strong 47 and 54 was actually 55. So first thing's first I was told, fill the gap with at 51. I actually got new irons with a 47 custom fitted and a 51 degree Cleveland DSG RTG. Love this club. Went and got a 56 (bent to 55) and 60 (bent to 59). Now my settup is: Taylormade Tour Preferred PW 47 degrees Cleveland 51 Cleveland 55 Cleveland 59 ...making it an even 4 degree gap between each one. Sacraficed a 3 iron for this - have less use for a 3 iron. Have a gap between 5 wood and 4 iron now (17.5 up to 24) but getting a 19 degree 5 wood to make it a smaller gap. You'll love Cleveland wedges!

Taylormade RE-AX Tour Prefered Shaft
hawkeye replied to jrwingate6's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Taylormade stock shafts are junk - I hit loads of clubs in front of a launch monitor with my own woods (all RE-AX TM stock shafts at the time) and the vaunch angle variablilty was crazy. I hit some decent non stock shafts and results were so much more consistent I was sold... -
I went from Titleist 962's (6 years) to Ping S58's and recently, to Tour Preferred. I would think that some sort of cavity back would suit what you're used to. I went from handicap 24 to 6 with the 962's and wanted a more playable club but still with a cavity. Go try some cavity/semi cavity irons out. Don't look at what the club is or who the manufacturer is. I'd never have considered either of my replacements but hitting them proved it's bad to have preconceptions!

Can't rule out Harrington. Won the Irish PGA third time in a row last yesterday. Perfect warm up for the Open, playing the European Club. Some course.
-
I share your thoughts on the Ping Tour-W's, I've already given my 58/08 to my dad and ordered Clevelands in 55 and 59 to match my 51 gap wedge. Performance, feel, versitility - all way better with the Cleveland DSG RTG's. Give them a try. I had Vokey's before, they're a mean club too but i find the Clevelands more forgiving and nicer to chase the ball at the hole with

Absolutely - Would have liked to see any of them win it. We won't see Phil for a while. Hopefully see more of Barnes and Duval.

Did anyone see the clip of 4 guys sitting on chairs divying up the balls into different buckets at the practice range? Was pretty funny haha they just had 100's of balls and were splitting them between your Nikes, ProV1's, ProV1X's, Srixons, Callaways etc. Tiger of course has his own balls each time - saw that before on a tv clip. He's the only player who does.
-
oh yes - the golfing world just got better. not because I backed DD at 500/1 after the 1st round of the St. Jude.....but one of the true gentlemen of the modern game is back where he belongs. His speech after his British Open win was warming - would have loved to see him win the US Open. Would have given all my potential winnings to see it happen! well done David - welcome back old friend!

WOW! Talk about a letdown...Worst major I've seen, so far
hawkeye replied to Three Putt's topic in Tour Talk
umm most majors aren't "exciting" after 2 and an eight of a round....I don't recall too many majors being amazing after 1 or 2 rounds. It's the 3rd day of a major now - it's "moving day" - it's just about anyones. The guys on +1, +2 can post a score and be in contention for the final round. Could still be one to remember.... -
I'm not fond of having to watch a tournament finish on a Monday (if it's weather delay - ok, fine). Goosen vs Brooks was pretty boring. But Tiger vs Rocco was exciting golf. Torrey Pines was packed with specators. Watching it again this year made me realise who good the golf actually was. But watching it live was a little more dull. It's just slow to watch (only 2 balls in play) and the commentators just go on and on about rounds 1 2 3 and 4 - saying if only he got this putt and that putt. It's the USGA - they do things their own way. It's good because it's different but it's not always going to be as exciting. I prefer the British Open and USPGA playoff methods.
-
That's the beauty of having Butch Harmon in the commentary booth - he gave a good insight into how Phil was feeling for the first 2 rounds with the putter. He brings the 2 putters everywhere and has won with both of them (has he won a major with this one - the one in round 3?) And he holes a great putt for par on the first!

4 wedges PW Taylormade Tour Preferred - 47 degrees GW Cleveland RTG DSG - 51 degrees SW Ping Tour-W - 55 degrees LW Ping Tour-W - 59 degrees. The 2 Pings will be replaced by Clevelands in the near future. A much better club.
