I would just call them cavity backs. But, it doesn't much matter what you call them so long as you can hit them and like them. Bought a set of Apex Plus' and am smitten. They feel absolutely amazing... and were only $399 brand new.

So, I went ahead and purchased the Hogan Apex Plus set. I hit them at Golfsmith when I picked them up (have a range in the back) and then went to the range later in the day. Overall, I'm more impressed with the irons than I thought I would be. Off-center hits aren't punished as badly as I had expected. I love the feel of sweet spot strikes. In reality, these aren't any hard to hit than my MX-19s, and the feel is so much better. A bad swing is a bad swing. Anything that was off with these would have been off with anything else. I'm glad that I made the switch.

I've thinking about getting a set of Hogan's to play around with. I hit a friend's FTX 6 iron recently and fell in love. Hitting it on the sweet spot felt better (to me at least) than the MP-57s I tested recently. My question is... in looking the FTX vs. the Plus irons, I can't really tell the difference between the two. I can find a number of used sets on-line for great prices, but wonder how the differ so I can decide which is best for me. Any help would be appreciated.

I just bought a G10 with the TFC shaft and the launch has been great. I was skying them with my HiBore (Alida NVS green shaft). I've only played one round with it but my drives had a much better trajectory with this combo. As was mentioned earlier, best bet is to get fitted.

I've narrowed my search down to the G10 and the Burner Ti (liked it more than the Tour Burner). There's something about the Burner that feels a little more lively, but I'm more consistent with the G10. I'm stuck trying to decide between feel and results. I'm probably going to end up going with results and getting the G10 in a couple of weeks.

Still haven't felt comfortable with a hybrid in my hand.

Once... A 340 yard par 4 with a slight left->right bend in the middle. I basically cut the corner on the bend and caught a good roll on some very, VERY dry turf. Ended up pin high by with a bunker between myself and the green. Stroke 2 went in the bunker. Stroke 3 went out of the bunker and on the the back of the green (45+ feet away from the pin). Stroke 4 came up short on the uphill. Stroke 5 was about 2 feet past the hole. Stroke 6 was the money. So there you go boys and girls. How to drive the green on a par 4 and still make a 6. My game has improved tremendously since this performance last year. If not, I'd have given up.

It's been years since my Texas Longhorns have fielded a decent squad.

The thing that helped me the most in fixing my slice was understanding why the ball moves that way relative to my club face at impact and swing plane. My advice is to do as much research as you can around here to understand why the ball moves the way it does. With just that (and plenty of buckets of balls), I've made dramatic improvements in my swing.

Yardages are all going to be based upon the power you are able to generate. I would just worry about them being consistent. I'm playing with the same clubs and hit the 4 iron about 215-220. I love the MX-19s for my swing now. I don't have the consistency to play something from the MP line yet, although I'm hoping to get things on track this season. I can still tell when I've hit a bad shot with the 19s, but also still get something very playable out of it.

I believe... that the more I play, the more I love the game... even when I have a bad round. I believe... that the grip is one of the most underrated aspects of the game. I believe... that the game is best played by walking with a few good friends. I believe... that competition is good for your game. I believe... that if most people spend as much money on practice buckets as they do equipment, they'd be decent. I believe... I need to practice more and worry about my equipment less. I believe... I will cut my handicap in half by the end of the season. I believe... that private course membership fees are getting out of hand (in Texas at least). I believe... that in my 20s now, I have started saving money in an investment account for a future club membership.

I keep hearing good things about a course called The Quarry. Don't know anything about it, but it might be worth looking up.

I've played this one for 10 years now and love it.

I swung a friends set of the original Beryllium EYE2s and honestly didn't like them that much. I could barely tell that there was an iron on the end of the shaft they were so light. I'm not discrediting your enjoyment of them, just saying they're not for me. My forgiveness comes in the form of an MX-19. I remember two shots yesterday where the club completely saved me. A bladed 5 iron that still went about 180 and got enough rise to clear a creek. And a 7 iron out on the toe that ended up about 7 yards off the target line but still on the green. Without those two saves yesterday, I'm looking at an easy set of triple bogeys. I would love to be able to play a set of MP-57s or MP-32s, but for me I need all the help I can get.

Interesting... thanks for posting the link. I've been playing with MX-19s since the end of last season and am enjoying them. Overall I like them. If I had to do it over again, I'd probably go with the MX-25s, but that's just personal preference.

Trees in the fairway less than 75-100 yards from the green. I played a course here last year (Shadow Glen) where the first par 5 had trees surrounding the green almost completely. You had 3-4 windows between trees into which to punch through. Either that, or to hit a moon shot and drop it straight down.

I was sitting at a Starbucks the other day and in walks Ben Crenshaw with what I guess was his granddaughter. Seemed like a nice guy. Didn't want to bother him though so I just let him have his privacy.

Riverplace is another good option I forgot about. About the price of Falconhead. Check out golf512.com for decent deals. That can get you on to LiveOak and Yaupon as well.

I haven't played Jimmy Clay (in the same complex as Kizer), but they just finished an overhaul (new greens, re-working holes 5/6/7). It's supposed to be in good shape. Lion's is a cool old muni. Sounds like you already know to not play it on the weekend though. Riverside used to be good (and you get to see Harvey's old house) but the maintenance was going to crap last time I played it. I've played Shadow Glen a few times and thought it was decent. Falconhead is much better. I thought Forrest Creek was alright for the price. My suggestion is you tell your wife/girlfriend/partner/significant other that you want to take them to the spa at Barton Creek. That would allow you to get a round in on one of the courses there. I love the Fazio Canyons course.

I haven't played the B330, but picked up a box of the E6s recently. I really liked them. In that price range, my personal preference would be either that or the HX Hot.

The lack of 3i is yet another reason I've got buyer's remorse. I purchased my MX-19s last year wanting more game improvement than I probably needed. I should have gotten the MX-25s and could have enjoyed taking the 3i off the tee on occasion.

I've been playing the same Callaway Big Bertha for some time. Couldn't hit it off the deck to save my life last season. Spent a while just practicing that shot on the range and am hitting it reliably now.

I've been hitting an unintentional fade off the tee for a about 3 months now. Not really sure what started it.
