  1. If they play pace, who cares what they shoot?
  2. Don't cheat yourself to get to your goal. Count everything.
  3. Two holes, actually. The first, I smashed a drive center cut and had a lob wedge into the green. Proceeded to chunk that three (!) times into a green side bunker, where I managed to get it out, from whence I three-putted. Nothing gets a round off right like a snowman . The second, I smashed a drive center cut and hit a nice hybrid into a green side bunker (par 5). Proceeded to take two shots to hit my ball out of that bunker into another bunker, which also took two shots to get out of. And then I three putted to put the cherry on top of a quadruple bogey 9 . Golf, what a wonderful sport .
  4. 112. Chipping and bunker play was horrendous. Fought a push-slice for the better part of the first round. But for my fourth round back in two years, I like how things are progressing.

    Walkers??

If the course is walkable and it's the morning, I'll walk. Otherwise I'm in a cart. I'm certain that if I tried to walk an afternoon round in Texas I would collapse by the third hole.
  6. I don't play golf to win. I play to have fun. If I played to win I would have shot myself by now.
  7. 116. Lost about a dozen balls, and killed myself with 16ish penalty strokes. A slight push on an iron or drive wound up costing me three or four shots each when all was said and down (it is a tight course and I missed in all the spots where you shouldn't miss). My chipping and putting was a marked improvement over my last round though. It would have been worse, but I drove the green on a short par four and two putted for a birdie .
  8. Coming from the guy whose home courses are at Horseshoe Bay. Give me a break...
  9. Hitting over water Cleverly placed sand traps Long doglegs Trees
  10. Some bag that I got on sale at TGW a few years back. Eight full length dividers, putter thingy, comfortable straps, just the right number of pockets, and (best of all) no logo.
  11. Will it affect the finish at all?
  12. What course were you playing, bunkerputt?
  13. Agree wholeheartedly with this statement. When I was starting out and playing with some of the clubs in my Dad's bag, I naturally pulled out the 3 iron first (Mario Golf had taught me that it was the longest iron). Nobody had ever told me that it was the hardest to hit, so I just hit that thing for the next week or so until I was consistently putting it out there 150, 160 (I was 13 at the time). I couldn't hit short irons for the life of me, but I could wreck with a 3 iron. Long story short, hitting long irons is only difficult for two related reasons: a lack of experience with the club, and the lack of confidence that breeds. Just go to the range and hit with your long irons until they work. The techniques suggested by riquet are an excellent start. You shouldn't change anything from your normal swing, except moving the ball forward in your stance (of course). You will naturally take care of the other changes you need to make (swing plane, club speed, etc.) through practice.
  14. Well the the rust spots aren't really spots so much as flakes, so I sanding would surely do more damage than leaving it be. But thanks for the replies guys.
  15. I bought a used Ping Redwood putter a few days ago, and was curious as to whether there were any steps, if any, I needed to take to properly care for my new club. It currently has some small rust spots, mainly cosmetic (the ball feels absolutely glorious coming off the face), but I wanted to maintain it as well as I could. Thanks.
  16. Once you get past the $20 range, most of the shoes are going to be similar. I have zero complaints about the $50 Adidas I've been wearing.
  17. If they are half as good as my Di5s, they would be worth buying (couldn't be more than a couple of hundred dollars?).
  18. Give him your current set, if you understand what I'm getting at...
  19. He never said this was his second time golfing. He said that this was his second golfing while playing from the tips...
  20. Got a Cleveland HALO 19* for my birthday. If I hit it solid (usually it's really solid or I top it 100y down the fairway), it gives a satisfying thwack and will fly 240y with a nice little draw. For $100, I'm pretty satisfied...
  21. Wait...is that a joke that I'm just too dim to get...?
  22. My favorite was when someone yelled "Yahtzee!"
  23. Isn't it just as stupid to buy clubs so you don't have a bag with one brand as it is to buy clubs so you do have a bag with one brand?
  24. Ask Kim Jong Il ...he has probably done it already...
  25. Unless someone solicits your advice, never, under any circumstances, dispense it. This is especially true for friends and family members...
