Golf GPS technology... need opinions
Billy_Baroo replied to SubPar's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My Garmin GolfLogix also stays on the same number after briefly fluctuating a yard or two. Sounds like the OP got some BS customer service. Glad I didn't get an iGolf. -
Top game improvement irons?
Billy_Baroo replied to useless149149's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Couldn't be happier with my Callaways. Didn't try the X-20s but I don't know what I would change about the Big Berthas. Definitely game improvement irons. -
320 with my previous Callaway X460 driver. Not sure what I did different and not sure how much roll because I couldn't see where it landed. It was a fairly flat fairway though. With my current (just added within the last month) HiBore XL driver, my longest is 300. That is with about 30 yards of roll down a gradual slope. I've been carrying this driver 270 on average and consistently much straighter than the X460. My mechanics are improving but the HiBore XL is also far more forgiving than the X460 was.

Another vote for the Titleist DT SoLo and the Bridgestone e6. Although I have a faster swing speed than most using those balls, they are still my favorites. The reduced spin helps off the tee and they both have enough feel around the greens to stop fairly quickly. I'm currently playing the Bridgestone e6. Those two are the best I've found (at least for me) in the $20-$25 range.

I had not read anything about one plane or two plane swings before, but this post explains a lot. Last year, without lessons I was definitely using a one plane approach. This year, with lessons, according to what I read above, I am now using a two plane swing. So far so good and the consistency keeps improving.

Two pairs at the moment but I will be throwing away my old ones. Old ones are FJ Green Joys that I essentially wore out in a year and a half of play. At less than $50, they were great beginners shoes. I got my Adidas Powerbands 6-8 weeks ago and have been walking courses in them. Very comfortable and stable. All I could ask for in a golf shoe.

Whose PGA Tour Player's Swing You Like the Most?
Billy_Baroo replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Ernie Els. I'm a little bigger but very similar build. I watch his swing every chance I get. -
The Adams Idea Pro Hybrid was the choice for me. I was hooking my previous hybrids (Callaway) and wanted something with no offset. Couldn't be happier with the Idea Pro. That said, I have not tried the Titleist. With a reputation of being "players clubs", I somehow feel like I have to earn a single digit handicap to even consider a Titleist. The Titleist name brand just psyches me out when it comes to clubs.

Just had my first full day - a round of golf and an hour at the range - with my new Adams Idea Pro 3i. This club is going to be a keeper. A few warm-up swings and this club is as consistent as my 5 iron. Playing conservatively lately is what has lowered my hdcp from the low 20s to 17. I think this club will continue that trend.

My courses don't have GPS but I carry a GolfLogix GPS unit from Garmin. I play a handful of courses regularly so I am not as familiar with any specific course as someone who plays the same course over 90% of the time. Yardage to the doglegs, front and clear of water hazards and bunkers, front, middle and back of greens. If you find yourself in the wrong fairway with trees blocking your view of the green, no problem.

You probably have a better - or at least more consistent - swing than I do, but I was having the same problem with my previous hybrids. I just picked up an Adams Idea Pro Hybrid with no offset yesterday. First few swings with it still produced a strong draw / weak hook but after I got used to it, it was a straight easy swing for 200+. I used it to put one on the green from around 220 out today. From most of the reviews I read, the best hybrid choices with no offset are the Titleist 585H and the Adams Idea Pros.

Finally got the breakthrough I need

lb - track your hdcp here: http://golf.sports.yahoo.com/tracker May not be official but at least you'll know what it really is. -
All of a sudden.... duck hooks
Billy_Baroo replied to King Cobra II's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
This is my BAD miss - short and hard hook left. This means I got no hip turn and no power. My average miss is a long straight pull left. This means a little hip turn but not nearly enough. For me, both are a result of my arms getting ahead of my hips. To avoid this, I have to consciously think "keep your back to the target as long as possible". That thought helps my hips turn first, then everything else falls into place and BOOM! Long and straight with the proper finish. Maybe that's a good swing thought for you, too. -
I picked up the 07 Big Bertha 3 wood not quite 6 weeks ago. It comes standard with a Fujikura shaft as well. I play it just left of center in my stance and get a nice boring trajectory. Distance is nearly as long as my driver. Here is a link to the CallawayGolf.com site for it .

Help - Adding a Gap Wedge
Billy_Baroo replied to Billy_Baroo's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I took your advice and just ordered a 50 degree CG10 from RockBottomGolf. With the PW at 45 and the SW at 56, I agree that the 50 fits the middle gap well. Likewise, I'd rather have too much club than not enough. Thanks to everyone for all of the posts -
I've never played at Prairie Dunes but it looked quite challenging when the Senior Open was there last year. The best courses I've played in Kansas are Colbert Hills in Manhattan and Sand Creek Station in Newton.

Help - Adding a Gap Wedge
Billy_Baroo replied to Billy_Baroo's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I agree. I will go w/ the CG10. I have done a little more research since the original post and noticed that the CG10's do not offer multiple bounce choices in the lower lofts. They clip the choices at the 54 with both the 50 and 52 only available in standard bounces. Seems a GW has helped everybody so that makes the decision easy. All I need to do now is decide between the 50 and 52. Thanks for the help! -
Help - Adding a Gap Wedge
Billy_Baroo replied to Billy_Baroo's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Hey thanks - sounds like I need one. Is your GW a 52? Seems like 52, 56, 60 is a popular spacing. With my PW at 45, I wasn't sure whether to get a 50 or 52. Yeah, I live up by Maize. Auburn Hills is the closest of the city courses and I use the range there a lot. I have a city pass so I play all of the city courses but Auburn Hills the most. By playing there more, it makes the other city courses seem much easier. -
I've got the Callaway Big Bertha PW that has a loft of 45° . I also carry a couple of Clevelands: CG10 SW 56° (two dot = 14?) and CG10 LW 60° (one dot = 10?). A full swing of the PW is 130-135. A full swing of the SW is 100-105. A full swing of the LW is 75-80 although I usually play feel with the SW unless I really need to drop and stop the ball or the once in awhile flop shot. You can see I have a gap between the PW and SW and although I can feel my way with the PW, it would be great to have another full swing club in there. The Callaway set has a 50° Approach Wedge. I really like the CG10's and had previously thought maybe a 52°? Also, what bounce would you recommend - 14 or 16? What loft do you think? Thanks in advance for the recommendations

I just got my first and second this summer within one week of each other. The first was on the par 5 two hole at Smoky Hill Country Club in Hays, KS and my parents were there as witnesses. Driver, 5 iron and an approx. 12 ft. putt. The second was in Clearwater, KS on a nine hole course. They have a short par 4 six hole that I landed from the tee and sunk a 20 footer.

Is the HiBore Hybrid offset at all? I'm looking for no offset. Just curious.
