Finally got #4 this week after work while playing the first 6 holes. Driver, 5W, lob wedge flip to 2 feet on a 500 yard par 5 that was playing into the wind. I really can't believe it took so long for a par 5. Off the tee its a big fairway but the layup is tricky because the fairway circles from left to right around a lake and it slopes towards the water. The green is tiny, with a bottom plateau and a top with the middle being all slope and bunkers left and right. Seriously they can stick a pin close to an edge where it feels like its on a ping pong table. Only 2 left, 11 and 18!

I usually say, That works! Same reasoning. It's nice to be recognized for a birdie, but sometimes you have to say that you are forgoing honors because you can't hit just yet. I am not sure how you say let the little dogs eat first but I get the point you are making. This is the same, but I will defer to the Birdie boy. If you make a par, no one really cares because we are hitting when ready.

Two out of the three holes-in-one that I have witnessed were of this variety. Only one was a well struck shot but they all had great results!
-
I have only seen it once between to adjoining holes going in opposite direction that doglegged together like a pair (Outer hole dogleg right, inner hole dogleg left). When playing the outer hole, you could hit it to the inner fairway and have a playable shot, but with golfers coming in the opposite direction, it is dangerous. Internal OB solved it. I generally don't have a problem with it. It makes sense at The Open with the members driving range and adds a new level of risk and reward. For those who don't like it, just don't hit it there.

He must be referring to his weapons of "Grass Destruction"! 🤣

I have had a mess of birdies the last week or so but not where I need them. I hope this doesn't consume my every waking thought when playing these last 3 holes....🤣 I have #4 which is a tight little par 5 (500 yards and plenty of water) with a postage green with a wicked slope, #11 which is a dog leg left par 4 (380) with a huge green, and the par 4 #18 that plays 430 into the wind with an elevated green. LFG!

I call this a "rookie" error. It happens every now and then (especially if both of you are in that area), but if a pair does this every hole, its a long day! Like you said, its all about communication and awareness. Of course!

I prefer to "ride" so that I can get out of the cart and walk to my ball survey the shot or get dropped off. I quickly hit the flag with the range finder, take the sand bottle and 2 clubs (if I am not 100% sure) and when its my turn to play I am ready. I sand my divot, pick up my equipment and walk back to the cart. Many times I will walk in from 100 yards with my putter or I will drop off the driver and pull the cart up if needed. Some drivers like to get dropped off and have the rider take the cart and its really dependent on where the tee shots land. Usually I am the longer player, but if not the roles can and will change when people know how to play ready golf and use a little common sense (that's the key). I love getting paired with people like you that love to drive and know how to maneuver around the course. Its just a little more freeing for some reason. Maybe its because drivers usually keep score.

It happens, I had 46-36 the other day for a ho-hum 82.

You have 3. The last 2 are ridiculous to even consider. Maybe they are good bar stories, but not any where close.

I can tell you a few things about the move. First thing is that I wish I would have done it earlier. When you belong to a course its just different. There always is a game, there are always premium range balls, there is always a superior short game area. I have met some really great people, not all of them great golfers, but really good people. I just love having the access to a great facility. The cost is not really that much more, especially for something that I value. Let us know how it goes for you. I think its going to be great.

I am just thinking hitting a normal hump in the fairway. See ya!
-
So a ball that is 1/3 above ground is really tough. You just have to advance it anyway you can and it sounds like you did just that. Normally, I play a divot ball slightly back in stance with hands forward to allow for club first contact. I don't think I have seen a lie as bad as you described ever.

My cart does 17 mph. It really moves but that's not really the point. They are faster than walking for sure, especially when crossing streets, getting to farther away tees, etc. Florida courses can be spread out so its an advantage. Great point, I always try to leave space. If I am last to tee off, or have to move up to another tee box, the club is in hand. So I transitioned from muni golf to a country club. The whole premise of the club is to play under 4 hours. Its a big deal and due to club rules there can only be 2 carts for 4 people. Having been a cart player most of my life, I know the tricks to ready golf and pride myself on being ready to go. So MJ has a course here (Hobe Sound) called Grove XXIII. The carts reportedly go 40 mph. A guy I know (ex ball player) played a 7 some (individual carts) under 3 hours with MJ himself. I just kept thinking someone is going to fly into a tree. The stories coming out of that club are amazing.

I am not sure its the bow that is the real issue. As @iacas pointed out in the DTL your head dips and arms lift outside the line. If you look at your face on you can see the head dip and then it moves forward along with your weight. Get set up on that lead side and keep it tight with a 2x4 as a path guide. That's all I got.
-
My instructor put a 2x4 outside the ball, down the line and had me chip without hitting the board. It had an immediate result.

A buddy of mine always says, "Too bad they don't have a cart path around the tee box (or green) for you to park on. Oh wait! There is one right next to your cart!" Add cigarettes and sunflower seed shells. You can laser the tee or the green all you want, but wait to hit your layup 8 iron and its on! This is 100% my wife's favorite word to describe inane and disrespectful behavior. In this case she would likely say, "Would you look at that Golf F**ktard spitting seeds all over the ground, makes the entitled Polo F**tards seem courteous." For the record, she doesn't play golf but she can spot them from our house on the tee box.

There is nothing like a chip shank to really throw you off and make you feel like you have no clue when trying to hit the ball mere feet! it is so frustrating. To add to what Erik has mentioned, I practice chipping and small pitches with an alignment stick just outside the ball (better with a piece of wood) to keep my hands from getting outside the path. It has made a difference in getting consistent center of the face contact.

Langer was tearing it up early then literally coasted with a 3 bogey finish to win by 2. I taped it and tuned in to the last 3 holes and found it to be anticlimactic, but watched the highlight real and saw how hot he was early on including the up and down from the mud for birdie. Being from the local area, I've seen Langer a lot in person, and he is a machine. A friend of mine used to see him at Woodfield CC in Boca and said the guy was always working hard in the gym and on the course. He definitely loves his golf and does everything to play. He is an example of golf being a life-long game and being the oldest winner at 65, well that is longevity for sure. I give him his due.

Cobra LTDx LS red/peacoat paired with a Graphite Design AD HD 5X. How can you not love the name of that shaft? Stands for Hyper Drive! 🤣 -
My formula came out to 111 and at my last driver fitting I was averaging 104 with a few swings topping out at 106. I am working on getting to 108 and being well into my 50s I would love 111, but it would take a minute.

I pretty much go by carry distance and conditions. I know my stock yardage because I have my GC3 (indoor and on range) and before that my friend’s shop with trackman and have confirmed it all through play. I know what’s going to cause more runout or more spin and go from there. 60 yards and in is more feel based with either the SW or LW. I play a lot of golf, so it comes with the territory. Before launch monitors I just played enough to know my yardages. Now I can just get more into the weeds with it.

At a par 5 that I really cranked a drive on, I had about 220 out and I hit a 4 iron screamer that clipped the top of the pole in the middle of the fairway at 200 yards. The ball careened 45* to the left and hit the cart of the twosome playing with us right at the cart numbers (they were close to the cart path) and 45* off the cart to land in the middle of the fairway at 100 yards. It was like a shotgun went off and once we saw that everyone was fine, we just all burst out laughing. Nice layup!
