  1. i've heard nothing but good things about it although I have never had the chance to hit with one.. i Almost bought one last week before I got a better deal on a PING G5. They are selling for really good prices right now. here's a couple user reviews from another site.. http://www.golfrewind.com/driver-rev...er-review.html good luck!
  2. well.. looks like i got a flat net for a birthday present form the mother-in-law.. i'll be trying it out this weekend.. i am not expecting it to be great by any means as it is pretty cheap and pretty simple looking.. i'm sure the cage type nets work better than the flat nets... But, maybe i'll be wrong it is one by Club Champ. http://www.clubchamp.com/9626.htm
  3. or maybe they want to hit at home but not tear up their yard.. my nearest range is a 30 minute drive away so hitting at home makes sense for me.. i still go to the range but i can't make it as much as i would like.. i am currently looking into mats from these companies.. http://www.realfeelgolfmats.com/ http://www.fiberbuilt.com/golf/ any other comments on these?
  4. yeah i feel the same way.. i mean it might not help much.. but IMHO it seems that the friction from the rust would surely grab the ball at least to some degree more than if it were not there.. (maybe not much.. but some). Now, will i buy a raw-type wedge so it will rust and potentially spin more.. no way. I like my truck clean, and a rusty club rubbing against the seat makes me cringe.. And yes, I read the mentioned article a couple weeks back and just did again.. and it is a fine article. But it simply dismisses the fact that rust is anything but cosmetic without having any real evidence to back it up.. i, too, am curious if there has been any testing done on this topic...
  5. UPDATE : i went hit the 9 degree G5 last night.. Not bad.. not bad at all. (for me.. haha). I hit it much more consistent than my 3 wood. I did realize I needed Taller tees though.. The ones I use for the 3 wood just didn't do it.. i borrowed my friend's taller ones and it all came together. I hit a couple 220 drives which was Splendid for me. Sure plenty of them were awful but hitting a couple clean ones just felt so nice.. My buddy hit with it a few times (he's just learning golf too, but he is a big boy and is naturally a Hard hitter.. but has NO short game.. haha) and he got it in the 250-260 range.. Man hitting a driver is fun.. ps. thanks for the advice everyone.. i know this club is not perfectly suited for me.. BUT given the price, I will do my best to learn to hit with it, and maybe next year I will get my swing analyzed and get something that is matched to my swing.. I figure using a slightly more difficult club may be more frustrating at first, but if i learn to hit well with it, i may become a better golfer in the long run.. i hope...
  6. this sounds good.. thanks podnuh.
  7. yeah, that makes sense.. well, when i hit my 3 wood correctly, it's probably a little higher than it should be.. I just haven't been able to hit it consistently yet.. workin on that i can't wait to get out there and try the driver out..
  8. well, i'm new to the game.. i can hit my irons pretty well (for a newbie), but my 3 wood .. not so good. I have been wanting to get a driver, but nothing too expensive as I am still learning and will probably be hitting the ball allll over the face/head.. I really want to work on hitting my 3 wood & driver next as that is my weakest spot right now.. anyway, Edwin Watts had a huge tent sale this weekend and I picked up a driver mainly b/c it was a good deal (or so i thought..). It is a Ping G5 (w/ TFC100D Graphite) in regular flex. This is all fine and dandy except that i got suckered into getting the 9° as they didn't have the 10.5° (or more) that i was looking for.. It was $129.95 but he lowered it to $110 as he needed to get rid of it. It was a demo that he said was hit only about 3-5 times.. It looks perfect. I told him I didn't think a 9° would be best for me being new to Golf and he (a PING rep) told me that it would be fine for "As strong as you are.." (haha) .....my thoughts were 1) he's buttering me up to make a sale & 2) a $300 club for 110.. SOLD! Anyway, can anyone tell me if I made a mistake.. I mean i don't care if I'll lose 10, even 20 yards right now.. but I shouldn't have too much of a problem getting it up in the air.. right? My first chance to hit it will be this week at the range.. i guess i just would like someone to say.. nah, it won't matter too much.. let er rip!! ... or something to that nature.. maybe it would ease my mind a bit.. haha
  9. wellll, since you asked. i am new to this game so i bought the r7's thinking they would me perfect for me.. and i was right.. they hit Very straight and with great distance.. I'm still hitting the ball all over the face and they are nice and forgiving.. suuuure they may not Look like forged blades or anything buut that's not what they are.. anyway, i've heard the r7 TP's are awesome.. i may move to them when i get a little better..
  10. yeah, that's kind of the vibe I've been getting.. Once I get a little more consistent with my ball striking, i think i may look into lessons early next year.. i know it would help.. thanks for the advice.. i've taken up other sports (basketball, tennis, racquetball, etc.) fine but golf is so much more complex.. annyways, back to the OP..
  11. nice.. keep us updated.. i'm putting off taking lessons for a bit so i try to gather as much info from good sources as possible..
  12. yeah, probably all the older drivers/wedges/irons sets. i'll be looking for a driver
  13. hey i'm from your neck of the woods.. maan i walked in Edwin Watts in BR at 6pm last night and they told me there was a demo going on down the road that ended at 7.. i didn't have time to make it but i'm glad some people went out.. oh, and don't forget there's a big sidewalk sale Saturday & Sunday there so don't miss it.. as far as the irons, i haven't heard much either way about them yet.. but if you felt comfortable with them, i wouldn't hesitate to get em..

    Finally!!!!!

congrats man.. i am like you.. i just started 3 months ago and i am also pretty athletic so i am motivated to learn on my own.. (may be a mistake).. but i'm definitely enjoying the process.. good luck on your next round..
  15. my bad.. i meant the next Fairway over.. sorry, i'm still learning..
  16. um.. i'm new at this too.. so what if a ball goes onto the next course over.. hit from there? ..or penalty and drop? just curious.. my friend did that quite a few times the other day.. we're both newbies.. okay.. so i did it once too.
  17. i am also looking into getting a practice net for the same reasons as the OP. my concern is not only durability, but ease of setup & take down. I cannot see leaving a huge half dome net up in my backyard all the time.. Are they designed to be left out anyway? Its looks like TGW has some decent ones by IZZO & RJ Sports that I may soon be investing in soon.. they got good reviews anyway.. anyone who has any practice nets please feel free to share your experience/s with them.. gracias.
  18. i hear ya.. people can hate hybrids all they want.. I have a 4H right now and i am planning to get a 1 or 2 hybrid as well.. I hit my hybrid Tons better than my 3 wood.. too bad the one i like is $160.. ouch
  19. wow i'm outnumbered here bigtime.. i only carry two right now.. a 45 PW and 55 SW that came in my taylormade r7 set. im scared to get a 60 as i'm pretty new to the game and I think it'll just get me into trouble.. the ball sucking down 25ft past the hole.. yowsers ! I will probably get a gap wedge (50) in the future though..
  20. taylormade r7's. i am totally new to golf and these things hit STRAIGHT!! probably not great for workability but I won't be trying that for a while anyway.. my goal is smooooth and straight.. haha.. I am absolutely happy with my purchase..
  21. 24 years old.. got into golf about 3 months ago.. i'm already addicted. i've always wanted to get into golf but it was so expensive.. now that i'm a grown up (haha), i'm slowly building me a set. i've been hitting at the driving range a lot and will play my first round of golf on Monday with two buddies.. I can't wait to get out there
  22. Very good point.. maan i can't wait to go out on a course.. i've been addicted to golf for only three months and i can tell this will be a looong-term addiction. i've been into Tennis for a while and felt i wanted another challenge.. i think i found it in golf.. big time. anyways, thanks again for the suggestion
  23. i just saw this title and laughed.. and thought i'd add my insight.. who will win the superbowl.. NOT THE SAINTS! they are my team and it is so hard to be a fan sometimes.. this year is anyway, patriots are looking almost flawless.. i'd hate win the nfc and have to play them.. scary
  24. Collision Repair Shop Manager. We repair wrecked automobiles. The Insurance companies are slowly taking over our industry.. beware.. lol.
  25. very interesting info fellas.. i am going play my first round ever on Monday with two friends who are also pretty new to golf. I am wondering what ball I should use.. Right now, based on what i've heard and $$$, i'm looking at the Top Flite D2 Feel, Calloway HX Hot, Titleist NXT Tour & DT SoLo. We have been to the driving range about a dozen times and we are decent but I have no clue which ball would be best for me.. anyway, continue on with the knowledge
