It might be time to get a tripod with a MagSafe magnet.

There is a chance that I had to Google what a camera control button is.🤣 And yes, apparently I do have one of those.

I was using the default camera app.

Update I got a chance to record again today and with the camera lock set to on (or green) it was better but still off. I’ll add a video here and you will see that it zooms in right after impact. It is not as much as it was a couple of days ago but still odd and I would like to be able to turn it off (or on). BTW topic for a different tread but I don’t like the way ios 18 scrubs videos. And yes, I could have done better with the bottom of the frame. But who needs to see the club head.
-
Thank you @iacas. I’ll give that a try tomorrow and report back in case it can help anyone else.

I apologize if this topic has been covered before, but I was not able to find it. I’m wondering if anyone knows how to change the setting on an iPhone that allows it to zoom in while you’re trying to film a golf swing? I was attempting to film yesterday and every time I was set the camera at 1.0 step in to hit the shot or use my watch to start the recording, by the time I was done the phone had zoomed into 1.7 losing parts of the swing in the process. I did turn off the stabilization, but that did not have the effect I wanted.

Rolling Chairs to Help "Explode" in "Load and Explode"
bjfox10 replied to iacas's topic in Swing Thoughts
This is a really good video and selfishly leaves me with some questions. Does the pushing of the chair drill address the timing of the frontal plane torque? Or, just improve how he uses horizontal torque?- 12 replies

I got the chance to go to Golf Evolution and work with @iacasyesterday and a lot of what we worked on fits in this topic so I thought I would share. For a while I have been working on what GEARS calls the pelvic trace. Before I started working on GEARS my trace would work out towards the ball which causes me to become steep and often stall through impact. The first 2 photos are from my first session on GEARS and the last 2 are from yesterday. Here I am at about 4.5 and you can see that my hips are very level. I am not falling into my lead side. I am kind of shoving or pushing off towards the target. Not only am I moving closer to the ball but I am not using the ground. This is that same swing at impact where I am stalling and cutting across it. This is a swing from yesterday where I have made a better into my trail side which allowed me to “fall” or load into the ground as I moved into my lead side. Hopefully you can see that my hips are at an angle. If I had pushed off with my right foot my hips would be level like they were last year. This is the same swing from yesterday at impact. Here I have shifted the path to the inside, created more speed and had more shaft lean then I ever had before. I don’t know for sure that I was pushing off the trail leg in the past but I can say I did not feel like I was in the improved swings yesterday.

👀 This is definitely intriguing. I do not know enough about radars to know how the unit is gaining this information but I will certainly be staying tuned to learn more. I did go on their site but I did not see any specifics on how it gains the information or how accurate it will be.

I have done 4 rounds at this point and here are my initial impressions. I found myself being more focused on the practice green than normal. This is probably due to the fact that it produces results that compare you to the best in the world. And, I tend to be competitive. I did not know how often I miss to the left. I am curious to see if I can adjust for this when I play. It is going to take a conscious effort to adjust my aim or read. I would like to see them add a feature where you can track results on your watch. When using the Airpod option it would save me from answering the question of "who I am talking to" or become the the guy that is known as the one who walks around muttering phases like "made" or "fast/left". 😆 I listened to Dr. MacKenzie's interview on The Golf Improvement podcast and he stated that in the future, the putting feature will recommend drills based on your performance. All in all I am excited by this and glad that I was an early adopter.

I was referring to his performance on Saturday and Sunday. I did not looks at his stats until this morning. He did putt well on Thursday and Friday but lost strokes on both Saturday and Sunday. I was really more about what I saw. He left a number of putts 5, 6 or 7 feet short on Saturday and the raced a bunch of putts past the hole on Sunday. When he missed from inside of 6 feet it looked like his backswing was to large for the putt he was trying to make. I was just wondering if others saw the same thing.

I am curious to hear what others opinions are on Victor Hovland’s putting. While I am positive that his bad putting is much better than my bad putting I believe they have similarities. There are 2 things we are both guilty of. First, on putts of a decent length we are very good at leaving them woefully short. The second is on missed putts inside 6 feet everyone in the group groans and says you decelled again. I know…the best putters decel, I am completely on board with that outcome. But there must be a way of over doing it or maybe how it done. I think (and I hope because I have been practicing it this winter) the fix is working on @iacas day 8 where the focus is on rhythm, tempo and time.

Sorry folks, it took me more that a couple of days to get some of the images up. The first one is one at impact you can see my first swing on the left (very typical for me) I begin to come forward before I reach A4 and the continue to do so into.impact. By the end (image on the right) I was able to stay up against that line. And, we focused on the backswing most of the lesson. Getting that in a better position makes the rest a lot easier. Of course, a very important component to a lesson is can you repeat it at home and can you repeat it at full speed. I was able to film a couple of swings today and I was very excited about some of the results. Pictures on the left are from a year ago and the right is today. Some of the things I was able to do today I have been attempting to do for a very long time. I’m not sure what would be most helpful for folks in the forum, so if you have any questions let me know. Or, if you would like to see other images I can certainly post them. In my opinion, the things (feels) that have made the biggest difference for me are the set up, the take away feel I described in the previous post, and the Advanced Shoulder Tilts (day 28 of the 30 Covid challenge). In the set up, I have always struggled to get enough knee bend. Every time I tried, I ended up sitting back more on my heels. During the lesson @iacastold me that what was needed was more flex in the ankles between the feet and shin bones. For what ever reason, that idea worked much better for me. I went into decent detail about my takeaway feels in my previous post but I also like the Shift and Turn Wall drill @iacashas on the Golf Evolution site. From there it is the feels from the Advanced Shoulder Tilts. From what what I can see on camera that keeps my pelvis on the line. All and all this is very encouraging. Once I worked on the shoulder tilts the contact became much better. And, I was able to generate enough speed with a 7 iron to active the Flux Capacitor! 😀

Hi everyone, I had the opportunity on December 30th to get down to Erie so that I could take my first GEARS lesson. I’ve worked with @iacas dating back to (I think) 2012. If I did a bit of research I’m positive that I could find that the years that I have made a commitment to get down to Erie are the years that my game has grown. Years when I thought I could do it on my own (like the last 2) not so much. So, at the end of a frustrating season I decided to recommit this winter to try to make that push toward scratch. My plan was to make sure I got down to Erie when I could, get my equipment evaluated at TXG, and see if I could gain a bit of speed with TheStack. When I saw this thread and that @iacaswas going to be working with GEARS it made it even more exciting. While I was excited to work on GEARS I was also a bit curious about how helpful it would be, I must say that the whole experience exceeded my expectations. The the whole experience is the key. Install GEARS in my home would be greatl but game would not get any better. I’d just have a bunch of data and wonder what to do with it. An instructor with @iacasskill level working in concert with the technology is what makes it a game changer. For many years I have attempted to improve my ability to “stay in posture” during my swing. My tendency has alway been to stand up a bit during my backswing, that leads to me tipping the club out a bit in transition, and then standing up a bit more so the club did not crash into the ground behind the ball. @iacasfocused on the pelvis trace to address the issue. The first thing I needed to improve was my lateral shift to my trail side. Before the lesson I thought I was making this shift because I was getting pressure into my trail heel, GEARS was able to show me that there wasn’t a lateral shift, I just sort of moved backwards or behind me. After we discussed how to improve this move I was able to play with different feels or moves and see the results in real time. That made a huge difference! The move or feel that ended up creating the correct pelvis trace is a move (or feel) that I would not have believe to be correct without seeing it in real time. To me it felt like a hip slide that would lead to things like a reverse pivot. #feelisnotreal I should have explained before that the goal was to get the pelvis trace to basically go back and forth sort of parallel with the target line. My move before the correction made the trace look like an arch that went out towards the ball. The move that to me felt like a hip slide quickly got the trace going parallel with the target line. There is probably a better way to describe it that was just the way I processed it. I’ll try to get some of the videos up that @iacassent me afterwards in the next couple of days so that you can see the change. In the meantime let me know if you have any questions.

I voted yes. Length is not a new advantage. The only thing that has changed is that more and more people understand that it is.

The coldest that I have gone out is 18°F. We have a course here in upstate NY that will let you go out anytime you have $12 for them. As long as it is not windy it is fun at that temperature. Yes, drive can go a long way but hitting greens is tough. Fly it on the green and you will go 40 yards over. You have to land it short, with the right shape to keep it on. It gets very difficult when it starts to warm up during the round because the area around the green will softens up before the green does. The one thing I have never understood is the green at this course do not die when you walk on them. I have seen frost damage at other courses when people have walked on green when they shouldn't have but it doesn't happen there...weird. Here is a golf tip that you may not know. If the tee box is frozen and you can't get the tee in the ground...spit and put your tee in where the spit landed. It slides in like butter.

I think so. Now I just have to play around with it.

I am interested in starting to use GG (at least the app at this point) to start tracking my rounds. I have read through this thread and am a bit confused about one point. I thought strokes gained putting was based on the result of the initial distance...not the distance of each putt. In other words if I hit a green in regulation and have 20 feet for birdie and I 3 putt I lose strokes (in relation to my targeted handicap) and if I one putt I gain strokes. If I am wrong than my point is useless but... I know get to the point... Why won't you just enter the distance you have left to the hole on your phone/watch as you play. This would help with the accuracy of both short game and putting statistics. Maybe the point of the program with the tags is to tag and move and adding another step is not what they are trying for...it just seems like a simple solution.

New TRUE Linkswear Elements Shoe
bjfox10 replied to boogielicious's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
This is great news! I thought I was done with Trues. I never liked the pair I got from the 2014 line and didn't like the direction the company was going with the 2015's, but these look great! I would really like to see them come back with something similar to the original Chukka. I still use my first pair for the worst weather and they hold up very well. But, I know they can't be water proof for ever. -
I dread the day that I can no longer carry my clubs. I probably carry about 80 to 90% of my rounds. The other 10 to 20% usually has to due with the amount of time I believe the round will be. If it is going to be more than 4 1/2 hours I'll take a cart. I feel that fatigue has more to do with time than distance or terrain.
