Just how overhyped are grips?
chilipepper205 replied to Used2PlayALot's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
New grips will make a big difference. I would recommend going to a golf and trying different grips. I really like Lamkin Crosslines and they a fairly cheap at about $4 each. I would also recommend saving the money and regripping them yourself instead of a golf store doing it. -
I have bought from them a couple times. I am very pleased with their service. There are alot of times when you can get really good deals from them. What I like best is that before you put the club in the cart, you can click on customize and choose different grips that they can put on for you. That way I don't have to regrip the club once I get it at home.

I used the Ping Webfit and I also was a maroon dot. I think that if you are taller, having the more upright lie angle and longer shafts should help. I ended up finding a killer deal on I3 irons (silver) but they were +1 inch. I think having the extra inch definately has helped me.

Ok, that was pretty funny.

You catch the Albatross Ball - What would you do?
chilipepper205 replied to nevets88's topic in Tour Talk
You have to be careful about what you take in return from ANGC because there may be tax implications to "gifts given in return for the golf ball." I remember a fan at Yankee stadium caught some significant home run ball and he gave it back to the Yankees in return for a suite tickets and other misc merchandise and the gov't wanted to tax him like $7,000. -
I don't know. With the successes his students have had recently (Justin Rose, Hunter Mahan, Tiger), I might pick Sean Foley.

I took out my 4 iron and replaced it with a 4 hybrid in my bag. For me it is alot easier to control.
-
Mine would be either my Taylormade Burner 3 wood or my Bobby Jones 4 Hybrid.

I've never taken a lesson. I started out with my own swing and have taken bits and pieces here and there from tv, magazines, and trial and error. If you do decide to take lessons, a good teacher should only tweak your swing to get better, rather than completely change it.

I think that you are good as you are with more practice. But, if you are really interested in a new driver, try finding a demo day or a golf store that will allow you to check out a different driver. With some exceptions, I feel that most of the time the technology doesn't change enough from year to year to warrant a new driver. Maybe try and take a few lessons or do the online swing lessons and see if that helps any.

new to game need help with clubs
chilipepper205 replied to greg1's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I started out on the Top-Flite XL set and I think that they are great clubs for the money. I know the two golf courses that I play at have a deal for $300 which includes the Top Flite XL set, Foot Joy shoes, glove, box of balls, bag of tees, and 2 free lessons. I think that you may want to see if a local course near you has a similar deal. -
Need New Irons...But Can't Afford 'Em
chilipepper205 replied to danielgaz's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The color code is important. I had the same thing as you. I was playing with mid 00s Taylormade RAC irons and was struggling with them. I tried out a Ping I3 silver dot +1 inch and fell in love with them. First, find out what lie angle (color code) works best for you and then go on ebay and find a set. You can find a great deal there (only paid $150 for my Ping I3's) and then sell your other set. Or find a golf store the sells used clubs and see if you can trade your current set towards the Pings if you don't want to bother trying to sell them online. -
I don't play with a driver because I can smash my 3 wood and I can't hit the driver to save my life. I have a 5 wood, though I never play it. I have a 4 hybrid and 5-PW plus a 52, 56, 60 wedge. I could live without my 3 wood since it is the club that I hit most often. I hit it off every tee (par 4 and 5) and off the fairway.

Value Golf - How do you keep the $$ reasonable and play more?
chilipepper205 replied to Otis32's topic in Golf Talk
You can also book tee times online and save money. The course I just played yesterday would have been $40 for 18 plus cart, but I booked online and only payed $26 for the same 18 plus cart. There are many websites available to book online tee times. -
How Do YOU Buy Used Golf Clubs Online?
chilipepper205 replied to 2nd Swing Golf's topic in Golf Talk
I would prefer to see pictures of the actual clubs for sale, but if I can't I would only buy from a trusted website that I know I can get my money back if something is not right. -
Win The Masters - Become an Augusta Member?
chilipepper205 replied to Golfingdad's topic in Tour Talk
There is some articles about Augusta in this months issue of Golf Magazine. Gary wore the jacket home to Johannesburg and by the time someone a Augusta realized the jacket was missing, they called Gary, but ultimately let him keep the jacket with a promise that it would never see the light of day. -
I agree. I have over shot the green several times on the short grass next to the green trying to get it to the hole.

This is my first time playing a Tiger Woods game (other than playing alittle bit of TW 2007), so I thought that I would use the caddy feature to help me learn to play. Boy was I wrong to do that. The caddy feature sucks. I found that alot of the time it was telling me to move the shot so far away from where I really should be (I'm talking 30 yards to the right or left, way short or too long). I stopped using the feature.

Favorite gloves to use?

I picked up a couple Edwin Watts gloves and it is a really good glove for around $6.00 each. -
Recommendation on which set to buy...
chilipepper205 replied to jgras's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
+1 -
If you are going to buy a new driver, see someone who can properly fit you for the correct shaft flex and length based on your swing.
-
I have bee having trouble with my Taylormade irons so I did the Ping Webfit and got my color code and shaft length. I went to a second hand store and found a set of Pings and really liked them. They are 100% than my TMs. The set is actually one color down from what I should be, I was able to get them alittle longer and it has helped alot.
