I have the 910F and I love it. Great look and feel to it.

Hitting out of thick rough is something I have always struggled with. The course I grew up on really didn't have very thick rough so it's not really a shot I learned how to hit well. Any advice on how to play it, with a full swing, would be appreciated. Lately it seems I shank it sometimes out of the stuff but I'm pretty sure I've cured that. I know I sound like a 36 handicap right now but I really am a single digit who just never really learned how to play the shot well.

Mizuno MP-63 vs Titleist AP2
xmanhockey7 replied to Mattplusness's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Both are great clubs. I play the AP2 and my girlfriend plays the MP-63 (she's a good player). From what I can tell the MP-63 would be more comparable to the Titleist CB. I find her MP-63 not as forgiving as my AP2 712 but then again I hate the shaft she has in it. I'd say hit 'em both. 63 does have a softer feel but unless you're a pretty good ball striker I'd go with the AP2s. -
86 with a 14 on a par 5.

Ping i20 has a great feel and look to it.

Match play is a lot of head games. Which I like. Give 'em some short putts in the beginning then as the match goes on make 'em start putting them out. Also if they say "good? good?" and you feel confident in your putt don't agree to it. I've found when people say that they're typically not feeling too great about the 3-4 footer they have left. Also realize it doesn't matter whether you make 4 or 40 on a hole; it's just a loss of hole and you move on. Just keeping making pars and eventually they'll break.

That's how Nicklaus thought he did it. I know a pro who still uses the old train of thought "club path determines where the ball starts and face where it ends up". He is a good player and knows that it is no longer true but for him, when he plays, that's how he thinks of it.

I had a shaft break on me while I was hitting range balls off a mat.

The girl typically hits her drives about 225 in the air (Trackman). I wasn't there to witness but I have played the course and it's not very hard. I could see her driving some of the par 4s and a lot of the par 5s play like par 4s to her alone let alone guys who are good player.

Tournament Golf, how do you deal with the nerves?
xmanhockey7 replied to jshots's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I embrace the nerves. I don't really feel nerves unless I'm coming down the stretch and I know I'm probably in contention. I love getting that feeling. Tiger and some other guys call it their drug. -
Is it Ok to hit the driver with a decscending blow
xmanhockey7 replied to pholmes's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
By hitting down on the ball you're losing distance. Tiger and Charles Howell III both hit down pretty severely with their drivers because they're not concerned with hitting big drives. While the average on the PGA Tour is -1* angle of attack (descending blow) that is only the average. Many guys swing up on the ball like Bubba and others swing way down on the ball like Tiger. If you don't believe me, look it up. Trackman talks about it. -
Golf clubs in my dorm were a normal sight. Granted me and my roommate are both professional golf management students.

Congrats you shattered the 90 bench mark. Would have been pretty cool had you shot 79. You could say you've shot in the 70s and 90s but never in the 80s.

What does it take to become a good putter?
xmanhockey7 replied to XxKevinxX's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
It's all about the 5 inch fairway between the ears. My putting got better when I changed my mentality about it. "Paint the picture" and by that I mean see the ball going into the hole. In fact hear the ball falling into the cup. I will even try to think about previous putts I have made at a similar length to imagine making the putt. You need to think about the ball going into the cup even if you're not playing golf. Don't care whether you make the putt or not. Just focus on lining up the putt and from there making a good stroke. If it falls, it falls. If it doesn't do the same thing with the next putt. I can't remember where I read it but I remember reading that a good putter could be given a broom stick and be able to make putts. That has always stuck with me, not sure why. -
Best scramble (4 person) score I've ever heard was a 47 on a par 72. The men played the white tees and the girls play the lady tees. There were 3 solid players from the men's tees and a girl who's a pretty good college player playing from the lady tees. They had 7 eagles and all the rest birdies.
-
Is it scramble or best ball? I've found it's best to have a good female player who can play from the lady tees to be in your group for a scramble. Group shot a 47 with 7 eagles and 11 birdies. Boy was it nice to be hitting chip shots onto par 4s!

Clubs you just won't let out of the bag
xmanhockey7 replied to trackster's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Really like my Ping G10 hybrids. I'm thinking I'm going to get a 23 or 24* hybrid to replace my 4 iron and when I do I'll probably just get a 20 or 21* to match -
Looks pretty good to me. When you practice your putting and short game do drills don't just hit balls around. Set up 4 tees in a circle around the hole about 3 feet away. Set up balls next to each of the tees and make yourself make 4 or 8 putts in a row before you move onto something else. Then work on lag putts (longer putts) and make it a game. Start yourself at -2 and putt to the hole with the tees around it. If you leave a putt short you make bogey and go to -1. If you make a putt you make birdie and drop a shot (if you're at -2 you go to -3). If you miss the putt but it goes past the hole and within 3 feet you get "par" and don't add or drop at shot. Make yourself hit 4 putts and not go over par. With chipping make yourself get the ball within the 3 foot circle of the tees. Make yourself knock 4 balls in that 3 foot area (not necessarily in a row). These types of drills will train to to stay focused and make a shot when you need to.

Flyers exist. Not so much with square grooves but definitely with V grooves.

1. Yes. For every degree of loft you take off, you lose one degree of bounce. For every degree of loft you add you add a degree of bounce. 2. As long as it works for you I see nothing wrong with it. 3. Your call on that one.
-
My guess is you aren't making solid enough contact with the ball. You can either work on your swing or get a 23-24* hybrid. That should cover the distance of what your 4 iron should be. Your 4 iron should CARRY about 10 yards longer than your 5.

Nothing in particular. I know every time I've had an energy drink then play golf I play TERRIBLE! I have found drinking gatorade during the round helps me.

16 year old breaks two course records in one week.

Sounds like one of the pros where I work. Guy plays a practice round and shoots 89. The next day in the tournament cards a 72.
