First off, I'm a HUGE hockey fan. I grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (the Oilers) but moved to Atlanta back in 2000 (I'm 45 now). When I moved to the US, between the state of the Canadian dollar and no cap being in place, there were 3 teams in Canada that could have easily been moved after 2 had already left Canada. Then the lockout of 2004/2005 hit. I was firmly in the owners corner during that lost season. At the time, payroll for the players compared to income was around 77%. Seriously WAY too high. And the last thing I wanted to see was my Edmonton Oilers move. Now we're down to 57%. The NHL while saying 46%, will take around the 50/50 mark. And when you look at the NFL, NBA and even MLB, they're all around that mark. That said, I agree with the players should not be taking a pay cut. They gave back a lot after loosing the season back in 2004/2005. And I agree with increased revenue sharing. But the cap is what keeps teams like the Rangers and the Leafs don't spend huge amounts trying to buy a team. It's what allowed more parity in the league. What I think what will end up happening, is sliding scale over the next few years decreasing the players share while not hitting them with a pay cut. The only question is if they will have an agreement before September 15 when the owners WILL lock out the players. There is no way will the league let Donald Feur take the NHLPA into a strike as playoffs are coming up. He did that with the MLB and the owners will never let him that kind of power.

Not necessarily mandatory but the Bobby Jones course here in Atlanta has a hole (3rd if I remember correctly) where you have to hit over creek type area and they have the drop zone past it right by the green. That's a par 3 of course but still it does put you closer to hole if you put in into the garbage area.

Yes...the Americans need to fix this!! FYI...I'm a Canadian living in the US.

Whoa...that's cheap!! The best I've been able to find anywhere within an hour drive of me is $1800 but that is for my family (wife and 1 kid). The one in my sub-division is even more and even then it's discounted play for a private course (was public when I moved here). Then again, living here in Georgia, we do get play almost the whole year. But DAMN...that's still seriously cheap!!!!!

I'd love one...large pls *ahem* Yes, I would like that for free.

I'll just start out that I've played my best 9 holes ever!! While compared to a lot of you, nothing major but for me, this is a nice steady improvement. Played at the front 9 on the Bobby Jones course here in Atlanta with a couple of friends from work. There may have been some beers consumed during this time... Fairways hit: 6/7 (best ever...finally getting used to my new to me driver) GIR: 2/9 (nothing major but decent for me) 3 putts or more: only 1 (major improvement) Parred 2 holes. A par 5 and followed up on a par 3. Came ever so close on the par 5 to getting a birdie...just missed the putt by about an inch but it left me with about 1 foot putt after that. I have never broken a 100 on 18 holes but I love the way I started this...I can just feel my game coming together. Between me taking the game a lot more serious this year, lessons with the wife, hitting the driving range at least every other week plus playing waaaaay more than I did last year. It's just starting to pay off!! I can't wait to play again!!! Too bad it's going to 3 or 4 weeks before I can. Road trip to Canada to visit family and friends coming up but I do have another lesson this Saturday...can't wait!!

My wife started playing last year with me. By that time, my son (8 years old at that time) was interested in it too since I was going out to play with my friends. Fast forward to now, my son just finished a set of 6 lessons at the PGA Superstore. My wife and I just started taking lessons starting this past weekend with a pro out at our local driving range. She has been frustrated at times playing to the point where she will only tee off but then not play the rest of the hole if it's a bad shot. But I have to give her credit, she's determined to get better. So now we're play as a family once a month plus I'm still playing with my friends. I'm getting more golf in now that I have in the last 5 years added together!!

Good question!! I did that on this past Saturday on the 10th hole. Bad slice and off to the right it went. There wasn't anyone playing on that fairway at the time so I hit it just short of the proper green. Glad to know it's not a penalty.

Usually just GolfNow. I just need 1 more booking to avoid the fees.

Yes the GREAT boobies goes home...that was sad... :( But what's not to like about camel toe girl?? She's a good ole home southern girl...ok...maybe not so 'good'... LOL

Me, I would never leave early unless it was due to injury or some emergency coming up. But if someone wants to leave because of bad play, who am I say no they can't. They've paid to play just like I have. If they choose to leave and not play the rest of the holes he's entitled to, then that's his business.

I just bought some new (to me) clubs from eBay. Callaway 4,5,6 irons. Taylormade RocketBallZ 3 hybrid and a Taylormade Burner Superfast (1.0) driver. First thing is to head to the driving range this weekend to get the feel of my newer clubs. I might hit the PGA Superstore out here so I can see some numbers vs my old driver and hybrid since my wife has a lesson there on Saturday. But long term...putting. That's easily the worst part of my game right now.

This thread has actually given me something to think about. I actually have an area in our back yard that is good size which currently doesn't have grass but could be turned into something like this. Wonder if it could be some sort of DIY project....

Saying hi from Acworth, GA (outside of Atlanta)
CDNinATL replied to CDNinATL's topic in Welcome, Everyone
I've played the front 9 on Cobblestone last year. I live in Bentwater and actually played there 2 weeks ago. I love playing Bentwater!! Too bad they went private..what 4 years ago I think it was. I haven't played Brookstone yet though. The course I've played the most this year is Fairways of Canton (yay Groupon!!). They went through a million bucks of renovations last year. That's a pretty challenging course. I played the Lion back in February I think it was. Isn't that the course where the 18th hole has second shot over the huge body of water from high up to make it to the green? Tough hole!! -
Don't think being a lefty has anything to do with handicap...LOL Now me...I'm pretty sure mine sucks...I mean really sucks. But hey...at least we're both in just outside of Atlanta!!

I've kinda played golf on and off for a number of years now. Now that my wife and kid are also playing, plus playing a lot more with friends this year, I'm taking the game a lot more seriously. So here I am trying to learn more. My son is already taking lessons and the wife and I are about to start ourselves. I'm currently getting around 115-117 per round (including penalties) but I am seeing the score starting to come down. I'm starting to get better with my irons and hitting the ball a lot smoother. My drives still have the odd slice but are getting more consistent. I do need to work on getting the speed of my swing up but for now I'm looking at getting on the fairway more than anything. Putting...yeah....that needs work... lot of work.... Anyways...I'm continuing trying to improve my swing and my game!!
