i myself have been to one tournement (JOhn Deere Classic this year) and had the opportunity to follow some players in the pro-am and in the first round. this thread is a place to share your opinions on players that you saw Zach Johnson-i caught him on the range and i asked for his autograph as he walked off the practice green after his round during the pro-am day. He grabbed my flag and kept walkng. didn't aknowledge me at all. he actually looked angry. JP Hayes-saw him tee off number one during the pro-am. i said nice shot, go badgers (he's from wisconsin) and he walked over, signed my flag, and had a brief conversation with me. great guy. Nick Watney-he has potential. he hit his tee shot into the trees. had a downhill lie in the rough with a huge branch 5 feet in front of him. hit it to about a foot. i asked for his autograph and wished him luck. he seemed genuinely happy and talked to me on the way up to the green. Kenny Perry-i didn't like him before this tournement. caught him coming off a par 3 and initially didn't want to ask for and autograph. my dad told me i should because he might win the event (he did) and kenny is a really nice person. down to earth, and very willing to give an autograph. Tim Herron and Jeff Overton-during the pro am they sat in tents while their ams teed off and walked behind or ahead of them in the fairway. i didn't hear either of them say a word. Charlie Hoffman-very vocal with his ams. he was giving tips from the sand, chipping, and fixed a guys slice. i was disapointed when he missed the cut. there are plenty more that i followed (gainey, lovemark, wi, etc) but i'll put their stories up later (maybe) again, anybody else have stories from events that they attended?

i will play any tees that i am comfortable with. at my club i either play the blacks (6700) or the member tees (these tees are:the blue tees on par 4's and black tees on 3's and 5's:6400) this makes the average par 4 at 357 yards (drive and a 7 iron), the average par 3 at 173 yards (5 iron) and the average par 5 at 515 yards at my schools course in the summer i play the tips (6300) even though for matches we play the next tees up (6000)

i came very close yesterday- we have a hole (#12) that is a par four, dead uphill that i never hit a good drive on and am left with no shot to the green. my best score to date on this hole is a double bogey. i hit a snot bubbler of a drive and had 140 left (an 8 iron) the wind was so strong that i clubbed up to a 5 iron. i hit the best 5 iron of my life, high and with a slight draw. too high. the ball was actually coming backwards. i ended up totaly buried in the face of a bunker. 2 yards more i would have been on the green. i just slammed my club into the ground. my dad and i made a pact after that. if either one of us slams a club into the ground, the offender buys dinner.

How many wedges are in your bag?
Eore replied to ilovesandwiches's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i said four, but thats including the pitching wedge and gap wedge that came with my set. other than that i have a 56 and a 60 (which i have no confidence with anymore) -
hospital. not a question

i got my index down from a 28.5 to an 18.7. my trend is now an 18.1 and two rounds in the 80's that haven't been put in. just playing more has drastically brought this down. i think i've played 30 or so times this year and will be able to play for a few more months
-
shot a 92 today. had to par 18 to shoot 89 and made 8. i did have 6 pars and a birdie though. my trend is now an 18.1 with two scores in the 80's that haven't been put in

that actually happens quite a bit, just watch an nba game when i'm playing in a tournement, i want people playing by the rules. thats important. i follow the rules all the time except in a casual round when i don't hit a provisional and cant find the ball. if the course is backed up i'm not walking back to the tee to slow up the round. but if a group of hacks like me wants to improve there lie or take it out of a bunker because they don't want to be hitting 8 shots from there, fine. i play with a few people who are worse than i am. they move the ball. its fine. its not my score. and if you cheat in golf, that does not mean that you character is flawed. its a game. if i were to cheat at monopoly by taking an extra hundred out of the bank does that mean that my character is flawed, too?

i play a course with fast greens and fairways so i hit low balls and allow the break to put it close to the hole. the rough is absolutely deadly. its tall and thick and you never get a good lie. if the pin is close to the rough or i have to get it over the rough a grab the 60* and take a 70% swing

plus zach johnson is a jerk, so i also think he's overrated. recently phil has been overrated going into majors. also furyk. hasn't done much. i think he was hurt, but he's disappeared.

Eore replied to justinmill14's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting

42 on the front a Hawks Landing. Hit every fairway and only 4 greens. putted and chipped like a fiend. i played with the SLOWEST PEOPLE EVER! nine holes took two and a half hours. so i called it quits

i used to get really mad at myself (for you who don't know, i was a 28 a few months ago) i would hit a bad drive, get really mad because i thought i should be hitting it in the middle of the fairway everytime. i'd mess up the next shot (usually a top) and then take my 8. i found out that people really don't like playing with you if you aren't very good and you act like that on the course. i took it upon myself to be calmer. hit a bad shot, say "it happens", step up to the next shot. my handicap has gone down almost 10 shots and i'm happier playing. i can now turn that poor drive into a par or bogey because i forget what a bad swing i made the shot before

my diagnosis The girls are really annoying and witches to eachother. they missed a turn and the driver was telling the girl in the backseat "you should be sick, we'e going home jay and peach aren't quite as annoying as i thought they would be after the first show. i still wouldn't talk to my dad the way he does the boys are just funny. "dang, son, don;t run too fast!" "cow! i hate cows)

rooting for lovemark. i followed him for a bit at the John Deere. he's got a future

84. my irons were spot on all day. i drove myself into trouble a few times, and made 6 putts over 35 feet. 5 for par, 1 for birdie. unfortunatly the course only rates as a 67. but it helps the handicap

Anyone using lob wedge for all greenside chipping?
Eore replied to littlefish's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
the one thing i could never do was keep it low. so now i use it the majority of the time, but if i want a low roller i hit the PW or even the 56* for some reason i can control hight with that -
oh yeah georgia was definatly in the wrong. like you said, you don't drive across your border guns a blazing and expect people to ignore it. russia just pushed it too far. as for the US wanting to give Russia repercussions, screw that, tell georgia be prepared next time if they go starting a frickin war
-
usually once or twice a round. i did once today after hitting my best drive (a 250 yard three wood! ate my wheaties) i was hitting pitching wedge to the green. i swung hard. i almost miss the ball. it burned the grass and killed some worms and rolled into extremely tall grass. i made up and down though (somehow.....drained a 40 footer from off the green)
-
very true, the georgians instigated it. but that "free" region used to be part of georgia and is home to some (apparently) crazy people but i don't blame russia for protecting their people. i do blame them for cutting the country in half and looting the crap out of it

i like berating myself and swearing and getting stressed. naah, i like being outdoors, playing with friends, playing with strangers, and the feeling of that one good hole the excersise is good as well
