Are Hybrids Taking Over Lofted Fairway Woods
Monsieurgolf replied to onthehunt526's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I don't carry my 3W or 5W anymore. The Hybrids that I carry do the trick out of the rough, in the fairway and provide the distance that I need. -
What Hybrid did you get and why?
Monsieurgolf replied to AbsoluteZero's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have 2 Cleveland HaLo's. They fit my eye really well and have a great feel to them. I got the #2 and #3. They are forgiving and get through the rough really well. I only paid $50 for them brand new on eBay and couldn't pass up that deal. I got graphite shafts and just try and swing easy. Hit a few and see how you like them. -
I was on a short par 4 that doglegged to the left over a creek. I put my drive into the deep rough and had not shot to the green due to the trees. So I punched out to the fairway and simply rolled it out there. Unfortunately, a bird was sitting right in the middle of the fairway and didn't move...next thing I know, the bird just falls over on it's side dead.

I usually put in my contact lenses when I play golf. If I have to wear my glasses...I have a clip on polarized sunglasses to help with the glare. I always wear sunglasses while playing. I wear contacts and the glare of the sun is just too much for my sensitive eyes. I have some Smith Sliders that allow you to easily change lenses based on the light conditions. I have some Polarized lenses, Amber and Yellow. When it is dusk and the light levels are going down, I pop in the Yellow lenses and everything gets bright again. I love them.

I have volunteered at Nationwide tour events for 5 years. I always do the "Walking Scoring" which basically allows you to follow a group and keep score of each player. You have to cary a palm devise and input each swing. I liked it because you could follow the group inside the ropes. Depending on the player, you can chat and visit with them during the round. You have to be wiling to walk 18 holes and keep up, but for me, that was the fun part. I would rather walk and watch 1 group than stay stationary. Regardless of what you end up doing, it is a fun atmosphere and a lot of fun.

I have a Nike Sumo 2 driver and Cobra Irons. I would say that for Drivers..there are a lot in the same price range, go with the one that you hit the best. Irons, I am very pleased with my Cobra's. Being in the same company that owns Titleist does give me the confidence that the technology is top notch. They have really helped my game and privide great feel and forgiveness. Can't go wrong with Cobra.

Athough I don't like the fasions...the web site is set up really well and is certainly going after a demographic that has a harder edge to fasion. You got to hand it to them that although this image isn't the traditional golfer, it certainly is targed to a group that we have all seen on the course, but maybe didn't have a clothing line dedicated to them. I still remember the rumblings over the "Trucker" hat with the old school webbing. I must admit that I didn't like it at first...but now that I have one, they are great in the dead of summer with high heat and humidity.

Good for Cleveland. They have some great names and they are really stepping it up. Combined with the new Srixon commercials...they are hitting the market pretty hard. Especially with Callaway and Titleist going after each other in court, Srixon is creating a lot of positive publicity.

Has anyone played in the Golf Galaxy Tour? My playing partner and I are looking at playing in some events this summer and wondered how they are. http://www.golfgalaxytour.com/page/show/17457-home

NXT Extreme vs DT Roll
Monsieurgolf replied to LeafsFanNL's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have played both and I prefer the NXT Extreme. I felt like the DT Roll was a bit hard for my taste and the NXT Extreme felt better for me. I liked the ball flight of the NXT Extreme and didn't think the "roll" with the DT roll was really there. I also tried the DT Carry and liked it a lot more than the DT Roll. I liked the ball flight more and it felt better on all hits, from irons to putter. -
The CDGA (Chicago District Golf Association) gives a free Golfweek subscription when you sign up for your handicap. I'm not sure on the delivery day, but a great perk when I need to establish my handicap anyway.

Please repair your divots and pitch marks. With signage all over the place and just plain old proper etiquite, I hate it when a group ahead of me leaves and there are multiple pitch marks on the green. Yardage that is incorrect. Example - Sign on a par 3 says 150...then the plate for the acurate yardage is different or no where to be seen. Then you find a sprinkler head hear by with a different yardage.

I have a Cleveland 2i Halo 19* and replaced my 3W. I found that I rarely needed to get my 3W past 250 in any real accurate setting. For me, getting to a par 5 in 2 isn't as important as getting to a good spot for my 3rd shot. Plus, getting out of the rough is much easier with the 19*. I can hit this around 220 (with roll) and that is fine for my game right now. Plus, I got this brand new on eBay for $49.

I played with a Senior golfer once that would simply hit is down the fairway each time, without much distance. From about 150 out..he would always come up short...but would say "That's servicable". My playing partner will often say "Unlucky" when I miss a short putt. And when I make a long put..."na na na na na na na na".

If you can still get a hold of Bite shoes...I have similar feet problems and have found the Biofit shoes to be very nice. Extra wide toe box, nice arch support and removable inserts that you can use or they have an extra thin insert if you have your own custom orthotics. I have had great success with them and can walk 18 with no problem.

Courses that allow groups off the back nine.
Monsieurgolf replied to JerseyThursday's topic in Golf Talk
I commend you and your course. It is a rare thing to find a starter that actually knows what is going on and can really maintain proper course management. Way to go. -
Clubmaking - What's the point?
Monsieurgolf replied to Range King's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am now in the fold of clubmakers that simply change my grips when they need to be done. Once you get the basic equipment, then the costs to change a grip are just the cost of the grip. You don't like the grip, change it, pretty simple. I have also lengthened each of my irons by 1" by installing some shaft extensions. Thanks to a very helpfull clubmaker at Golfsmith, I did that myself and it was very easy and a lot less expensive. Plus, that has given me confidence to maybe go a step further and try shafts. Finally, by doing it yourself, you aren't tied to the schedule of the clubmaker, you do it as quickly as you want. Good luck. -
I tried them at Golfsmith and they felt great. I compared them to Ping I10 and the sole is about the same width. (The G10 is much wider.) Felt very solid and the offset wasn't too much for my eye. In my limited time hitting about 10 shots each, they were very close to the I10's that I have my eye on.

I've never hit a yardage marker but I have hit.... 1. Power line running across the fairway 2. Bird standing in the fairway 3. The deck...as my brother drilled me from 100 yards away with a 3W right in the side.

Las Vegas Golf for cheap!
Monsieurgolf replied to lordhamster's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I was just there and if you are interested in playing some great courses in the afternoon..you can get some good twilight rates. I played the Badlands Golf Course http://www.badlandsgc.com/index.html (Owned by Troon Golf) out west by the TPC. After 1pm it is only $70. Great course and you have a mix of 27 holes. -
Smith Sliders. www.smithoptics.com They come with several different color interchangable lenses...depending on the conditions. I have a pair with some Polarized lenses for sunny days. Orange for more cloudy and overcast and some Yellow during rain and late in the day to brighten things up. The nice thing is that you get 3 glasses in 1 frame. They can run upwards of $100, but if you go to www.campmor.com you can find them on clearance very frequently for around $40
