The XCG-3 is pretty darn forgiving, as the head is huge. Unlike some others, I don't know why the size is an issue. Most people shouldn't be hitting 3W out of the rough and don't need to work it. Some people struggle off the deck with the smaller headed CB series. Unless you hit 3W alot off the tee, the TEE 4W works well for dual purpose. Ball flight is pretty high though.

I'm in as NoBogeys. Did real bad in a public league last year, hope to do better this year.
-
I'd agree in general, but it mostly deals with the shape, as I don't like the shape of the CG15. Cleveland, please bring back the 588 RTG...please?

I found the TM Raylor and Idea Super Hybrid to be pretty high launch.

He's trying to sell you a set. As someone else pointed out, if they fit you, they are perfectly fine. Kenny Perry did pretty well on tour with r7 irons, so I can't see how they are crappy. I wouldn't trust a thing that salesman says.

Matrix Xcon 4.8 shaft From Taylormade
duffer888 replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It wasn't too light for me, but it felt like garbage. If anything, it was too long for me. Recently traded in the SF for a ST and it's much better so far. -
Did Pavin with the US Open with these?
-
The MP-11 comes with the new DG Spinner shaft. Looks weird.
-
Some measure with or without the grip as well.
-
FWIW, I would only trust launch, spin and speed on the simulators. Every time I hit on a simulator, it tells me I hit nothing but a straight push, yet on the course, I hit a straight fade or a pull fade.
-
I'd also suggest using it off the deck only with a good lie and not too much above or below your feet.

I'm in the market for a new set of wedges
duffer888 replied to Chipper's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think the X-Tour wedges are a real good deal right now. 1020 forged, satin or vintage, MD Grooves, PM grind option. My vintage 54/60PM are buttery smooth, softer than any of the cast wedges, including Cleveland and Vokey. Note that if you are used to Clevelands, these will feel a little light. I was having problems, then added some lead tape and all is well in the universe. Also, since they are forged, they can be readily bent to your liking. -
I like the head, but the R flex Matrix shaft in a 10.5* head didn't work for me. Switched to a 10.5* r9 and it is much more consistent and more versatile. I normally hit a fade, but sometimes pull it dead left. Setting the r9 to N/R has taken the pulls out so far. Now, if I could completely remove the occasional big honking slice that goes exit stage right, I'd be set...
-
Another data point here. Unlike Crey23, a 10.5* r7 Limited in Reg flex has not been working for me and my SS is roughly 90. It was turning my slight fade into a big fade/slice. I considered trying a 9.5*, but they are fairly hard to find in Reg flex. Instead, I picked up a 10.5* r9 with the Reg Motore 65. I have a r9 fairway that I hit pretty good off the tee, so I figured I'd go this route so the feel is consistant between clubs. Only one range session so far, but the r9 has been much better. I can set it backweighted on N and hit high straight/slight fade bombs. Set on N/R, the launch is lower, but I can really release the club and it's hard to go left. I'll play with the r9 a bit more, but I'm pretty sure the r7 Limited is gone.

Brush the grass on touch shots with your wedges
-
I do this quite often and don't score any worse. However, I don't score any better, so I'm still lugging 14 clubs around... IMHO, beginners are MUCH better off playing with a half-set of clubs. It's less expensive, lighter to carry and teaches you how to hit a variety of shots under a variety of conditions. But the biz doesn't make any money this way...

Burner Plus vs. 09 Burner
duffer888 replied to Chicago Lefty's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Consider the Adams a7 irons. Price is good, the set comes with 3/4 hybrids, they are not shovels and you can continue playing these through being a mid-capper. Plus, since you like graphite shafts, the Axivcore in the a7s are way better than the stock graphites any of the Taylors. -

Bridgestone J36/Mizuno MP line
duffer888 replied to danieldsuh's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Just get the J36s, you can't beat the price and you could probably resell them later for close to the same amount. The PCs are pretty forgiving, even on toe hits. But you will lose some feel on off-center hits. I can even hit the 20* 3 iron. They are fairly upright, as compared to Mizuno, so you should get them adjusted to your swing. J36 is forged by Endo in Thailand, not Japan. -
What are your SW and LW lofts and bounce angles?
duffer888 replied to Sheekamoo's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
56/12 and 60/08. For me, it's the best balance across all types of conditions. -

Use a lob wedge with no more than 8* of bounce. -
Do you have DG shafts in your wedges? If so, one thing to consider, if you make the switch to the NSPro 950s will be the transition in feel from the PW to your SW. The DG shafted SW will feel substantially heavier. I switched to wedges with NS Pro 950 Wedge shafts (now available) and the transition is much smoother. Another solution to this is the Nippon 999, but I haven't tried them.
