  1. If you don't think it's your swing, sounds like possibly your shaft is too flexible. I have been hooking my driver and 3 wood occasionally, and I was told to go on a launch monitor and see if I need a stiffer shaft.
  2. With a red dot below the number, and two blue dots forming a triangle with the red dot.
  3. I have recently realized that my driver grip, and putter grip are both starting to show good amounts of wear. The tackiness of my driver's Winn XI7 is completely gone. I never really liked this grip anyways, and now that it has been played for awhile I think it's time for a new grip to bring my feel and confidence back to my driver. I also see that my putter's grip(stock odyssey grip) has also lost most if its feel and is ready to be replaced. I planned on buying one of the Studio Select Scotty's, but I won't be able to afford one until I get a job or the next big holiday. For now my Odyssey will be just fine. I have heard good things about IoMic grips, but they are very expensive IMO. Any recommendations for my driver and putter grips would be greatly appreciated, because my local store only has about 5 grips to choose from.
  4. Amazing investment for any high handicap/new golfer. I've had one since I started playing about a year ago and it has helped me a lot. Great for getting the feel for your shots the day before a round, or working on them after a round. IMO, a mat + net is an amazing investment that every golfer should have. I'd recommend a high quality net(mine has broke twice) from a local sporting goods store, such as sports authority, dicks, etc. Good luck!
  5. Arnold Palmer's. They are especially good on the course, with ice.
  6. I'd go with the 3 hybrid. I have a 3 hybrid and hit it about 205-210.
  7. I'd go with a used driver that you can find for under $100. Clubs in this range would be the r5 series, etc. Yes technology has changed, but I hit my r5 made in 2003 better than many other drivers made in 2007. Difference, yes. Large difference, no. Go with used/great condition clubs. Most importantly, be comfortable with your putter that you choose, and get some decent woods and a nice forgiving iron set. I personally think used woods are the way to go. I got my driver for $85 a year ago, in mint condition.
  8. 32" is not very common, as most putters are in the 33"-35". I personally use a 34" putter and I am 5'9.5" and it seems to be an appropriate size for me. I am considering a Scotty and I plan on getting fitted for it, so I know the correct length for me.
  9. I always thought the TaylorMade driver's felt great. I occasionally play my r580xd and I love it, even though it's 5 years old. I would try and not replace your clubs often, because from personal experience I am realizing how little equipment matters, and how important a proper, relaxed swing is. A good swing will hit any driver far and down the middle. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with whatever you choose!
  10. Sounds like a great purchase to me!!
  11. I like this site the most. Seem to be to the point, and completely honest and legitimate reviews from real golfers. One reason I no longer read magazine reviews, is because I went to a course that got #3 best re-done course in the United States from Golf Digest. It was the worst course I have ever played, and it cost $80 per person.
  12. I purchased a octagon mat off ebay for $225, and I have to say it was well worth the money. This is a LOT of money to spend on a mat, but after seeing it in person(i picked it up), I was sure it was the right one. It has gone through endless storms and water out on the back porch, and still works like new. I would suggest investing the money on whatever you choose, assuming it will be stored outdoors. I had a net for a year also, which broke two days ago. I need to get a new net ASAP. Good luck!
  13. I play graphite shafts on my hybrids, and have considered putting steel shafts on them. I don't seem to have the same control and understanding of where my ball is going. For now I'll stick with graphite but in the future I will be sure to try steel. Good luck!
  14. Looks good. Do you normally hit a fade? Seems like you came over the top on that takeaway.
  15. I would check ebay, and your local stores. Can't go wrong with a used set in great condition for under $200. Good luck!
  16. Very very simple solution: go purchase one of Bob Rotella's books. I would start with "Golf is not a game of Perfect", and then read "Putting out of Your Mind". These books have helped me so much in staying calm at my varsity try outs, that I managed a 44 yesterday. I was chunking the ball and skulling the ball, yet managed to make some great putts and chips, thanks to these books. It will be the best purchase of your golf career. I promise. edit: I just realized that the minute before I posted CosmosMpower made the same exact post. That just goes to show you how important confidence is, and how important it is for you to read this book!
  17. Nice trophies! Yes, they still do make liquid filled balls, which spray a watery mist at impact. They also make exploder's which are filled with a powder and explode at impact.
  18. Can't wait for it! I have a wii and 360, and I'm definitely getting it for 360 for online play and better graphics. Plus after that commercial, how could I not get it?
  19. 109 first try. Yeah, too much computer =(.
  20. I know my dads 20 year old Ping Eye 2's still work great, so you really can't go wrong with Ping irons. Mizuno and Titleist both get great reviews, but I have used neither. I'd suggest demoing some clubs at your local store, and then price search from there. Good luck!
  21. Go with whatever works. If you putt better with a broomstick than your Scotty, use the broomstick. You should find a putter that you are comfortable with, and once the comfort factor settles in, you can really focus on being confident that you are going to make your putts, instead of focusing on your stroke. Good luck!
  22. I would suggest buying a 56* and a 60*. I use Cleveland wedges and like them a lot. From what I hear vokeys are the best, but not the best for your wallet. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
  23. I'd suggest the Cobra FP series, or even the Ping Eye 2's. They might be old, but they are definitely great clubs. I would go with anything that's moderately cheap, that you can keep until you are good enough for a new set. I have been playing my Cobra FP's for a year now, and don't see myself purchasing a new set for a few more years. I'd suggest going for a used set in great condition, or an older model that you can get for a good discount. Try ebay. Good luck!
  24. I have had two tryouts in the last week for my schools varsity golf team, and I can see that I am one of the top players so far. My team just lost three seniors that were very good, and now that they are gone we are pretty bad. I shot 44 today(for 9), best score out of 12 other players. Very hard course though. My ball striking was terrible, after all of this rain from the hurricane I had such trouble not catching the ball fat. My short game came through, and I made a few great putts and lipped a few chips. Overall a great day, and I can't wait to play on the team.
  25. Thanks a lot. I personally do not like the color of the wedges so maybe I will strip the finish also. Thanks!
