  1. I'm going through some changes, but I wouldn't call it a complete change. Ive had a habit of bringing the club back on the inside and then coming over the top on the downswing. Ive started taking lessons to hopfully improve on this and right now all Ive changed is my take away and trying to keep my downswing path on the inside. Thats about all I can handle at this time.
  2. My putter, followed by my sand wedge.
  3. The problem with this stat is not all greens are the same size. We can have 30 yds from front to back on some greens, maybe more. I have had putts that you have to have a pretty good shoulder turn and can feel the shaft flex. I would just as soon be chipping from 60' than putting. You also need to be on the correct level. My former club was a P.B. Dye course and the greens were smaller and well protected with deep bunkers. My current club is a Fazio design and it is not as dificult to hit the greens, but they are much larger.
  4. I have a good short game, but that day it was really working, 11 putts on the front with 2 birdies with 3 greens hit. Not as good on the back, had a double. Not my normal round. One problem I have is we have Zoysia fairways that have been soft and we get little roll. There are two holes that I usually have a tough time just hitting. One I usually have 200yds uphill with a bunker to carry, the other I'm usually in the 225 yds range with alot of trouble on the left. I'm starting to get some lessons from the pro to try and get alittle more distance with my driver, and more accuracy with my irons. I'm fighting with comming over the top alittle and either pulling or cutting across the ball some. Mostly I'm pulling, long and left.
  5. Ive never really been one to keep track of my stat's, but I'm starting to keep track of my GIR's and putting to see if I can improve. Currently average around 8 or 9 GIR's, and we have big greens. My best round of the year I only hit 6, but still shot one over. And Ive hit 12 and shot 7 over. Like everyone I'd like to keep shaving some off the handicapp and I play in a lot of skins games and need to make more birdies. What I'm wondering is what are the average GIR's for low handicap golfers. I already have a decent short game but two put pars are easier than up and down's.
  6. I started playing again after a 8yr layoff, kids and work didn't allow me to play like I wanted. Back then I was in the 5-10 range. When I started back up three years ago my index was 15, now I'm down to the 5 range. Ive always had a decent short game, but I'm short off the tee and that puts alot of pressure on hitting GIR's. I retired 2 years ago and I play alot now. I think my problem now is that I play much more than practice. I think that for me going from an 8 or 9, to a 5 was just working on my problem areas. For me that was my sand play and picking up a few extra yards off the tee.
  7. A friend of mine got his first hole in one last Thursday and bought everyone in the bar a drink, it was his first Ace in 20 years of playing. And believe it or not he got another one Wednesday, six days later. I was playing with him and he holed out on the 2nd hole, a 188 yrs par 3. He just got a new set of clubs and it was the first time he had hit the club. He just left his tab open as he had to leave. There were only a few of us left so we were easy on him.
  8. My official handicap adjust's every two weeks or so. My handicapp does not change until I get my new GHIN update. It does say what I'm trending to, but that doesn't matter untill the update. So post the 103, I would hope that is not one of your 10 best out of 20 anyway.
  9. I use my 56 sand wedge, pitching wedge, and 8 iron. I use the sand wedge usually if I'm short sided and want the ball to stop, or I have a bad lie. Otherwise its the pitching wedge or 8 iron depending on how far I am from the green and how far I want the ball to roll.
  10. I shot my best round of the year today, 1 over par and I only hit 6 greens in regulation. I hit three greens on the front, 11 puts with 2 birdies, chiped one in. I had a double on the back. Out of the 6 greens I hit, 5 of them were from 180yds plus. I was coming over the top with my short irons and just couldn't stop. But I was lipping out chips from 15 to 30yds away all day. I was really feeling confident with my sand wedge, pitching wedge, and 8 iron. I had a few long putts and lagged well, and made everything else in 10 ft. Definatly a strange round that the guys will be talking about for a while.
  11. Retired two years ago at 50. I was a construction manager. Now I just play golf most days or piddle around with my old Porsche's.
  12. I think we all hit a point were improvement is tough. We all only have so much ability I'm afraid. But strokes can still be saved by optimizing what you have. My index has been stuck between 5.0 and 7.0 for the last two years. I'm not a long hitter and it goes up in the spring when the coarse is wet. And goes back down when I can start getting some roll in the fairway. I'm turning 52 this month and I don't think that I'm going to get longer off the tee and I don't think that I'll ever be a scratch player no matter how much I try and practice. But I hope I'm wrong and I find that ah-ha moment as I keep trying.
  13. I paid $4000 to play in a pro-am and ended up with Pat Perez. I enjoyed it but this seams more interesting.

    Tipping Caddies

I havn't been many places that have a caddie program. But when I have had a caddie I paid him $100. Ive only used a caddie 4 times in the last few years and it was always a treat for me. Everytime they were college age kids and I felt was worth the money.
  15. I paid $6000 initiation. Dues are around $4000 per year and include locker, range balls, and club storage. Carts are $15 per round or something like $750 per year. This is for a individual, and this is only a golf club, no pool, but a nice clubhouse. My previous club was $5,000 initiation and $4400 per year, carts were also around $15 per round. Both are nice. These are on the cheaper end of the private clubs around here. Although with the economy there may be some deals out there. I'm paid up for the year so it doesnt matter now.
  16. I have the 909D3 and the 909D2 15.5 fairway wood. I am very happy with the 3 wood so far. I have the stiff Voodo shaft in both clubs. The 3 wood is a keeper for me.
  17. If only the guy's in my skins game would let me. We play the tees based on handicap. 0-3 plays the tips, 4-12 gold, 13-? blue, No one playes the white or ladies tee's. Ive suggested since I don't hit the ball long that I should get to play up. My playing partners said they don't chip and putt as well as I do and maybe I should give them putts within 5'. I'll continue to play the same tees as them.
  18. I wish I could hit it 250-270. Maybe when the fairways dry out. Mine are more like 220-230. The coarse I play is a 6610yd par 71, 72.0/129. I hit alot of hybrids into the greens and like the others have said, solid wedge game and I'm know for being a good putter. I also keep the ball in play. The only way I can hit a par 5 in two is dry conditions and downwind.
  19. Wow! I play with alot of very good golfers, some have played on the mini-tours. And very few of them can hit it 300 yds. Maybe the places that I play water the fairway's too much. I use to play a muni from time to time that we use to call our ego builder. The hole yardages were off at least 50 yds. At my club if a 20 handicapper was hitting it 300 off the tee, the handicap commitee would be talking with him.
  20. I have the 909 F2 and I'm very happy with it. It replaced a Cleavland Hi-Bore that never really worked well for me. In the past I simply hit a Hybrid when a 3 wood was what I really needed. It was priced at $175 at my club but the pro let me have it for $112. They had a program going that allowed me half off the retail price so I bought the 3 wood since I already had picked up the D3 driver. I have always been looking for a 3 wood and this one is working for me. You really need to get out there and find out which one will work for you.
  21. I recently picked up the new Titleist 909 F2 and really hit it better that the Hi-bore it replaced. I bought the 909 D3 driver and thought I'd give the 3 wood a try. The driver is nice, but the 3 wood is definatly a keeper. I have generally just pulled out a 2 or 3 hybrid in the past because I never had alot of confidence in the 3 wood. With the Titleist in the bag the last few rounds, its definatly been an improvement.
  22. Ive played quite a bit so far this year, anytime the temps are over 40. But it was in the low 60's on Wedsnday and I shot my low round of the year. 73 with 5 birdie's. Ive been shooting 77 to 82 but my putter was hot that day.
  23. I average around 225 off the tee. I play a 6610 yrd par 71 track. There is a 444 yard par 4 that I rarly reach in two. We have 6 par 4's that are over 400 yds. I am not that much shorter than most of my playing partners, maybe 10-15 yards on average and they are all single digit handicappers. We have zoysia fairways and they keep them watered. I'm impressed with all the long hitters here, but not with many of the handicaps posted. If I could truly average 250 plus I am sure I could get my handicap down to a 2 or 3 index.
  24. The guys I play with always have something going. But never more than anyone would notice losing. usually $20 is about the most at stake. I think it makes most of us play alittle better because we are competitive and hate to lose. Usually the winner buys drinks after the round anyway so its more about bragging rights.
  25. I didn't see this post. If you hit them and love them, go ahead and buy a set.
