Poll: is golf more enjoyable when you are playing for money?
Bump-n-MI replied to boil3rmak3r's topic in Golf Talk
Absolutely -
Sounds to me like you fell into his trap along with the numerous playmates

I’ll preface this by saying I in no way shape or form condone gambling We have money games Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays (they range from $10 - $30 and we get between 10 and 24 guys). I have a standing $10 bet (stroke play) with another guy and we typically pay out at the end of each month. He called me up Saturday pm and wanted to go double or nothing (because I was up $70) and of course I obliged because I was playing with house money. Front 9: 1-bogie 2-bogie 3-bogie (at this point I thought I was cooked, he was even) 4-birdie 5-birdie 6-birdie 7-par (only par on the front) 8-bogie 9-birdie 36 on the front with one par. My counterpart shot a 37. Back 9: 10-par 11-bogie 12-par 13-birdie 14-par 15-par 16-birdie (-1 at this point and my counterpart was +4) 17-took a 9 on a par 4 (we were all square) 18-birdie to win the match Shot 75 with 7 birdies and was +5 on one hole. Roller-coaster ride for sure but at least I fattened up my wallet (not only from doubling up with that guy but from getting 7 birdies in our normal money game). My scoring average is just under 73 for the year but I only average 3 birdies a round. That is the first time I've ever had 7 birdies in a round…just too bad I couldn't put a complete game together!

3 hour rounds on the weekends….and that is walking, numerous tournaments throughout the year, universal membership that takes pride in the upkeep and appearance of the course, etc…….

Couldn’t disagree more. A lot of players would be better served practicing and repeating shots they will encounter during everyday course play. The “one off” shots are a waste to practice for the vast majority of amateurs. You know why I don’t practice one-foot-in-one-foot-out bunker shots……because I may only see that shot twice per year. Same holds true for knockdown 7-iron shots from 90 yards. Instead I utilize that practice time to chip from rough (a shot I typically see at least once per round). As for the “fun” factor I agree.

Its funny when chops play blades.
Bump-n-MI replied to kekoa's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
One more thing on this. IMO a blended set is the best of both worlds for many on the fence about blades. -
My father put a golf club in my hand when I was 5 and sent me to a pro when I was 7. Hockey was my main love and I played from the time I was 4 all the way through college. Golf was just something I did to spend time with my father and as I got older (teen years) I lost interest. Wasn’t until I turned 30 that I truly fell in love with the game. I don’t read “How To” manuals nor do I care about Ben Hogan’s life story but I am very cerebral and understand simple swing mechanics. Repetition and rhythm are the two most important elements to my game. I am completely obsessed with ball striking and pure contact. Once I “out grew” my distance obsession I became a much better golfer and my scores dropped drastically. Think its time to focus on putting now and my 29.2 putts per round coupled with a 72.26 scoring average quantity that!

Seems like a huge waste of time. I can’t think of 1 scenario where that would be useful (other than punching the ball underneath tree limbs).

Not buying that AT ALL!!!! So you are telling me that “she” shot between 66 and 71 “most of the times” you played against her??? BS….. So lets break this down shall we. 6900 yds averages out to the following: 170 yd average par 3’s 414 yd average par 4’s 520 yd average par 5’s I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she averages 250 off the tee and hits a 7 iron 150. That means she is hitting (on average) 6 iron approaches into every hole (excluding the par 5’s where none of them are reachable). I’m also assuming her proximity to the hole is somewhere in the 20-25’ range right? Not buying that for 1 second.

I feel like I’m right there….teetering on something pretty good. My scoring average is 72.26 for the year which is the lowest it has been in many many years. I abandoned the power game, finally understand course management, and (for the first time in 35 years of playing this game) learned to club up and finesse rather than go 100%. For those of you out there obsessed with the “draw” I strongly advise you reconsider. Playing a slight fade off the tee and straight ball with my irons has significantly improved my ball striking and accuracy. Yes the “draw” looks cool but when I start missing left I know my swing is out of wack. The one massive eyesore on my stat sheet is putting. 29.2 putts per round is poor….extremely poor. I’ve tried all the tricks, left hand low, used anywhere from a 30” to 35” putter, etc, etc, etc…. Anybody have any tips or tricks that has worked for you?

He is a pompous, self-indulged ass but I don’t watch golf to see how friendly the players are to each other. Tiger is not obligated to appease Rocco’s multiple requests. Hell, he should be flattered Tiger acknowledged him at all. Bottom line…Tiger is the most captivating and riveting athlete in sports today. His competitive edge does not come from whispering sweet nothings in his competitors ears nor does it come from breaking bread with them outside the ropes.

This is for all of you sniveling and whining grandstanders….so a noob or high capper goes out and shoots 120 with a set of blades, honestly how much would his/her score improve with SGI’s??? Ya’ll act like the slightest mishit with a blade is compounded and amplified 1000x’s. So completely untrue. What you do get is feedback, you also get feel, you also get a thinner clean top line, etc….. SGI’s mask and mute key components and hinder growth. IMO the difference in negligible but enough that I’ll opt for a club that will help me grow the most. If someone told me I could automatically shave 2 strokes off my game by switching to SGI’s I still wouldn't do it (and I am addicted to going low). Bulky, cumbersome, ugly azz clubs do anything but instill confidence for me. -
What Titleist Vokey will be best for my game?
Bump-n-MI replied to CallawayGolf25's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Frankly I couldn't care less who agrees or disagrees with me. Simply put I was voicing my setup and what has worked best for ME. The OP asked for opinions which is exactly what I gave. -

Bump-n-MI replied to CallawayGolf25's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I’m not a fan of bounce and have never found myself wishing I had more. My 56* is 6 and my 60* is about a 3. Albeit strange this setup has worked best for me and for my course conditions over the years. -
You are right, he's a meanie
-
I don’t need to try and tell you anything because apparently you have determined there was malicious intent on his part. I believe he threw his club in frustration (which happens millions and millions of times each year from people that also have no agenda or intent other than to relieve some frustration). Now if you were to ask me if that was childish and reckless my response would have been an astounding yes.
-
LMAO, Tiger has never intentionally thrown his club at any fan in any gallery. That is quite the accusation….do you have any proof of this? Oh, his poor attitude has resulted in 76 wins and counting. The man is committed and determined which people like you misconstrue as “he’s a meanie”….
-
This cracks me up. For all of you that say so-in-so was “unfriendly” please explain! Did you make that assessment on a certain interaction while so-in-so was working? Or because so-in-so didn’t return the “hi fella” while he was working? Or because so-in-so didn’t sign your Loud Mouth shirt while he was working? Maybe it was because so-in-so’s caddy asked you to put your phone away while he was working….. This is their livelihood and distractions inhibit focus. If someone comes up to me during my working hours and says “Hey!!!! Sign my program!!!” I’m going to tell them to get lost. The same holds true for the pros when they are inside the ropes. They are working people.

Forged irons players - when was your last checkup?
Bump-n-MI replied to sean_miller's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Seems like overkill but better to be safe than sorry I guess. I visually inspect my clubs once a month…if they seem out of wack I'll take them in. But I will say I'm going on almost 3 years with these irons and I have only had them adjusted once (and that was when I first got them ;) -
Shot 74 on Saturday which was 3 back from the leader. Played in the final group Sunday and mustered my way back to -1 by the 15th hole which was tied for the lead. I proceeded to go bogey, triple, double…….talk about a choke job! We had quite a few people watching the last 3 holes and it was pretty intense. I'm still a little sick to my stomach about it lol.

710 MB vs. Scratch Golf Tour Custom vs. Miura Blades
Bump-n-MI replied to cody west's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If you are soliciting opinions mine would be to go with whatever one suites your eye the best. After all aesthetics are important. Tom, Dick, and Harry all have completely different reasons they think their clubs are the best….and IMO should have absolutely no influence on your decision. So again I'd go with whatever one looks the best to you and focus on the perfect shaft. FWIW, I've hit 2 of the 3…one was great and the other not so much (had a wet noodle shaft so it had nothing to do with the head). The shaft is what makes or breaks an iron (for me anyway)….especially with blades! -
Damn, some of ya'll take OCD to a whole new level! A half wet / half dry towel and quick wipe after each shot is the only thing I use.
