Shot a 94...my usual score. Putting has been unusually poor lately. I figured out I was moving my head/following the ball. Much better just to listen

Yesterday at my club I played 9 holes with an older member from the forward tees...32.4/107 and shot a 39! The differential equals a 42 from the middle tees I usually play....but it sure sounds and feels better!

Take him out on a course early evening and play from 50 yards in each hole. PW SW and putter. He can experience how the ball comes off the club, roll out, putting. And you can teach a good bit of etiquette right off the start. To me not as boring as the range when you're new.

I've met almost all the guys I regularly play with on a 1st tee somewhere. Be a good playing partner: tend the flag, help look for another's ball, compliment good shots, laugh at yourself , keep up with the group (pick up when necessary), don't give advice, buy the first round from the cart girl, suggest post-round cocktail, ask about other's games, clubs, etc. I took some group lessons and found my current pro in one....also met a couple guys to play with. Everyone is afraid to play with strangers....but once you get better you will still experience this fear when you're teeing off with the first group in a tourney with 20 guys watching!

It's not too early for tournaments that use net scoring or stableford. The Golf Channel Am Tour has many different skill flights. In the beginning I picked up a lot when frustrated or holding up a social group. And I sometimes kept a score of just the good shots and putts I had. Most of my golf buddies have vanity handicaps 5 to 8 strokes lower than mine. Doesn't bother me. They usually roll their balls out of divots, etc, etc.. We dont play for money , so I dont care when they "beat" me. But they don't like to play in the organized tournaments I do. Wonder why?

My goal this year is under 18. While that is only 1.6 away, sometimes it seem like miles. First tournamnet of the year next week in Redding CT.

down to 19.5 from 19.7....my first time two consecuitve periods under 20!

Start tending the pin for your group more, cuz your ball is not always the furthest from the hole or the only one off the green.

Two thumbs down!

Played this morning with a friend. Shot a 95 , which was highlighted by an Ace on a 165 yard par 3 at Beekman Golf Course in NY. I used a Taylormade 3 hybrid. Hit at the front and slowly rolled in (just disappeared) 4 holes earlier I had driven one OB, so I ended up with an average score. It's very nice to be in the club though! Dick Wilkinson

i book online with the specific courses I play. Most do not enforce their cancellation policies of charging for no shows or a late cancellation. I monitor the sites Golfnow, TeeOff and especially the LastMinuteGolf app. But I rarely use them.

Shot an 88 yesterday... 44 and 44. Only my second sub ninety round this year!

I regularly play from the three different sets of tees at my club. Range from 5900 to 6800. I find the biggest difference with y game between the tees is my confidence level....feel much better closer therefore I play better, less tentatively.

Playing in tournaments is the driver of my interest in golf. I always need a specific goal to work toward, so without a competition coming up I wouldn't get motivated enough to practice, take lessons or even play a lot. A main motivation this year in trying get my index from 25 to 18 this year is to be eligible to play in some local team tournaments next year. This Monday Im in a one day tournament of the MGA ( association of the greater NYC area). It's at Richter Park in Danbury CT. 6300 yds, 71.6/ 136. 96 participants. All levels. Scoring is Stableford gross and net prizes for the top 3 places are nominal...at most you win your cost ($80) back. Very nice public course...I played there last Thursday afternoon and yesterday to get familiar with the course. Will work on a "ÿardage book" for myself this weekend.

Started strong with a 43 on the front 9...slope 127. Then a 52 on back nine ...slope 118. Ugh.

49 in my Thursday evening fun league. Started off with a couple triples. Im just getting off work, and we stand around gabbing beforehand instead of warming up. Note to self: warm up next week.

I was just in an event that sold 3 anywhere mulligans for $25. Just one shot....not a mulligan for the whole group, not 4 shots. All the staff on the course was selling them, so you could buy more on the course ...out group ended up buying 6 total. Advertise or display before the round the items in the Chinese auction. I only bot 10 tickets, but there were two items I was really interested in winning,. If I had known, I would have bought more during the round!

I was B-FIt for Bridgestone Tour e6 golf balls Jim Furyk -7 Patrick Reed -7 Chris Kirk -7

Went to a nearby course I like, getting tired of my home club. 96 ... 51/45...71.2/127...a 22.1 differential. Took a while to settle down even after warmup at the range. First nine had a lot of practice with recovery shots!

Im really impressed by your 38 on the back nine while only hitting 2 fairways. What were your misses off the tee like?
-
91 today: 69.5/123. Slow improvement continues. Played conservative w/ no LB or OB. Couple of 3 putts spoiled the mood. Decent driving. Going out again Monday

Bogey Golfers Only (Index 16-22) / Breaking 90 Topic
rcwkent replied to rkim291968's topic in Golf Talk
I'm finally eligible to join this thread!! I started last year when I retired. My first scores were in the 130s and 120s. I got a GHIN last year and started at 31.6. Thies year my Index in March was 25 and I have worked really hard to get it to 21.6. Keys for me this year are 1) working consistently with a pro 2) Course management 3) short game (50 yards and in) I only drive 200 and have gotten fairly consistent 62% fairways, with majority of misses in short rough. OB and LB off tee are very rare now, My iron accuracy peaks at 140 yds....so unless its a short par 4, downhill, etc I will be playing to get on in three. At my home course (69.5/123) Ive gotten to know the green complexes very well...and know exactly where Id like my second shot to be if I cant get on. Right now Im at 70% GIR+1...looking to improve there, and with putting. This thread has been inspiring to me this year, and its nice to finally be eligible to post and proudly call myself a bogey golfer! Dick
