  1. Just my opinion but I wouldn't limit myself to a forged putter, they are few and far between. I had a Yes! marilyn about 18 months ago, it was a nice putter, beautiful carbon finish and nicely weighted. Unfortunately I got this when I was going through a very poor putting spell so it was traded in along with a couple of others. I would certainly consider another one though. Give the Rife a go and the new Nike method putters too, there is a short video of the nike method putter on the nike website which is quite interesting.
  2. I currently play the Z-star x. It is a great ball, I like the firmer feel and the click off the putter and the greenside control but I would like a higher trajectory (mainly with my driver). I know I can get all this with a pro v1x but for half the price what would I gain and lose if I made the switch to the e5?
  3. What is the difference between these two models? It seems most pro's use the pro version rather than the pro gold. Im considering changing my '09 rescue for one of these or maybe the 909h. Opinions appreciated.
  4. The ping g10 is a solid driver. The R9 is very good too as long as you find the sweet spot (which is pretty small compared to most modern drivers).
  5. Try playing the ball way back in your stance, as far back as just inside your back foot, this will give you a steeper angle of attack and give you a more consistent strike.
  6. I think the cheapest urethane covered ball is the Bridgestone E5. I've never tried it but posters on here have always made good comments about it
  7. I'm thinking of replacing my R9 (10.5) due to its tiny sweet spot. I demoed the Ft-9 (11 degree, zcom 60 shaft) today at the range and wow does that driver launch high! My opinions of it are mixed, I like the high launch but the ball also dropped pretty steeply too. Im not too keen on the sound of it, it's rather dull sounding like the ping rapture. Opinions on this driver are appreciated.
  8. I finally got around to trying this today. The driver with the 3 wood shaft was not much different, maybe a little shorter in distance but no more accurate (I did only hit a few so didn't get used to it properly). The big difference was putting the driver shaft in my 3 wood! Wow, the ball just soared through the air, it was as long as my drives and as straight as an arrow too. It wasn't easy to hit off the deck though. I'm really tempted to try this in a round very soon.
  9. I have to agree, the R9 is very unforgiving on off centre hits. I lose around 20 yards more than I did with my previous tour burner and nike sumo. I demoed the rapture V1 and was disappointed with it, the sound and feel was very dull. I believe the V2 is quite an improvement though.
  10. I think he's talking about the driver
  11. Do most players (especially better players/pro's) play the same swing weights in all of their clubs to keep a consistent feel or do they vary the weights between the woods, irons and wedges? Is it even important? Just checking my clubs I have D4 for driver and 3 wood, D3 hybrid, D2 irons and D5 wedges.
  12. My understanding of it is (If it is like the R9 and R9 460) the loft only changes when you change the face angle. The face de-lofts when you open the face angle and increases in loft when you close the face angle.
  13. I have trouble aiming my putter at the intended target, using a mallet/mid mallet helps a great deal due to the longer alignment line. I'm using a scotty cameron red x, it feels great to me but might not for you. Another nice putter is the odyssey number 9 model. Try putters with a full shaft offset, and half shaft offset and see which works best for you Go try a few models at your local golf store to get a feel of which style your comfortable with.
  14. I think the new Nike VR driver has the project x shaft as standard.
  15. ...tried the R9 3 wood shaft in their R9 driver? Would it be possible or could it cause damage to the shaft? Just curious how it would play with it being about 10g heavier and 2.25" shorter. Before you ask, yes, I have had a lot of time on my hands today!
  16. I really like all the irons you have narrowed it down to. Be aware the forged blades have very weak lofts, I think the PW is 49 or 50*. If you found the Titleist MB's were coming out a little low you may find the same problem with most blades due to the nature of them. I would probably go for the R9 tp's, we all need forgiveness in our game (including the worlds best players), and quality cast clubs are not very far off a forged club in terms of feel.
  17. I recently got the TM rescue '09. It is a great hybrid, very easy to hit straight. I also looked long and hard at the Titleist 909h, also very nice with a slightly smaller head than the TM. I have tried the Ping g10 hybrid but found it to be very light, too light for my liking.
  18. I have tried the Tri-speeds. They were good balls but I found the 2 piece AD333 had a better feel and just as much control, a little cheaper too.
  19. I have this bag, it's great. No more clubs getting tangled up thanks to the 14 way divider. I don't think it is heavy over 18 holes, it's never been a problem for me. I have had it for about 8-9 months so can't comment on how long it will last but my last stand bag was a nike super series which I replaced after 7 years (and that wasn't because it was falling to pieces, I just wanted a change!). There's plenty of storage and some nice colours available too, I would certainly buy this bag again, go for it.
  20. I bought an R9 3 wood a couple of months ago, mainly for how it looked and sat behind the ball at address. It is very consistent and I hit it very straight. I didn't buy it for the adjustable shaft but thats a cool feature to play around with on the range, it doesn't make a huge difference to your shot shape. I have it set to neutral and find it easier than my previous nike sq 3 wood to hit off the deck. I'd say go for it.
  21. I tried a 13 degree 3 wood last year. It was great off the tee but not too good off the deck. It is hard to get a lot of carry unless you are a fast swinger. I got less than 200yds carry off the deck with mine (nike sq), I switched to the R9 15 degree 3 wood and I carry it around 220. As for the x stiff shaft I would stay away. A shaft which is way too stiff will often cause a push/fade/slice.
  22. The Ping G15 hybrids are very iron like. Or maybe try a hybrid with a smaller head such as the Cobra Baffler, Titleist 909, Cleveland hibore etc.
  23. I was fitted for my split cavities about 12 months ago. The stock DG s300 shaft was launching too low with too much spin so I was fit for the DG s300 high launch shaft. My 6i ss was around 85mph, my swing is smooth and steady. They give a nice trajectory with no ballooning at all. On a side note, has anybody experienced the project x high launch shaft?
  24. No, not during a round.
  25. I currently play a Tour burner driver and R9 3 wood. I'm soooo happy with the 3 wood that i'm considering an r9 460 driver to replace my tour burner. What I want to know is, is there much of a difference between the two (apart from the adjustable shaft, obviously) such as distance, forgiveness, trajectory etc?
