  1. Most scrambles don't require that you hit the same ball from tee to green. I know people that will use 3 balls. Distance/harder ball off the tee, softer/spin into green, super soft/spin around the green. IMO use the ball that you are comfy with. You go changing your game and you will find you are disappointed...IMO
  2. KZG would be another forged club to consider. They make a great blades to progressive cavity. Clicky Clicky....
  3. You know I understood what poor Johnny was trying to say. He just did not convey it very well. Rocco could be anyone one of us. He's not a "flat" belly. He is not a "long baller." He is just an average guy that for three days gave an above average guy a run for his money.
  4. I am going to venture a guess that you might be using say.... I don't know... WINTOTAL? (GRIN) I use to teach this software, say 5 years ago or more. Then went into appraising before going to the mission field and now in the motorcycle industry to pay for my mission trips. (Since missionaries don't get a lot of money. LOL)
  5. I say more power to you. If you can pick a spot and hit it SWEET! I think that is the problem with most golfers. They are trying to draw, or now fade thanks to Tiger, instead of just playing for a good shot. I played to a 7 handicap a few years back. I was better at drawing or fading on will. Now that I don't get to play as often, well I am happy for anything in the fairway. Now back on topic. IMO I like something with a thinner sole and minimal offset. (Not blade mind you...just more minimal.) Our fairways do get water, but in the heat of the summer they are still very compact, as our ground has a lot of sand. So the thin soul tends not to bounce as much. (IMO) So I tend to like the Ping "S" series and most of the Mizuno's, of course outside of my ISI ;)
  6. I figure between the 230-250. I have reached out and got to the 300 with some wind. I am working on accuracy and placement, so I will keep the shorter yardage if that is a trade off.
  7. I hit a demo HiBoreXL at Golf Galaxy and liked the way it felt. Plus they are under $150 just about everywhere.
  8. To start I wish I could hit my 3 iron the distance that some on here can. It is about 205-210 for me. If I could get it out close to the 220-230 mark in the fairway I would be in perfect shape on most courses here in the city. (Most dogleg about that distance.) With that said, I just purchased a Cleveland LDI 18* last night. I am hoping that this club will be that 210-225 type club. Something that stay will low in the Oklahoma wind, and yet some control.
  9. Not an issue. I will post up if courses change.
  10. No I work just down the road at Jim Anderson's Complete Cycles . No I grew up in KS. Live in Bethany. Commute to Del City!
  11. I am in no way a pro...we need someone who really can set this straight, verses my seat of the pants theories.
  12. It is not anything special. I work at a motorcycle shop and don't get off work until 6-630. I thought it would be nice to play 9 holes after I get off work. I then thought how fun it would be to do some sort of league. So hence the PGA. (Pathetic Golfers Assoc.) We will meet for the first time June 20th at MidWest City Muni. (Old midget meadows.) This will give everyone a chance to meet and go over the rules. I really plan on this being VERY laid back and just intended to have fun and not really win anything. The schedule I have laid out is between midget meadows and Lincoln Park. (Since they are the closest to our shop, in Del City.) Cost initially looks to be $15 plus $7.50 for a website to track the league. Everyone is welcome to come and play!
  13. HEY...I resemble those remarks!
  14. I am not as convinced that the lie of a putter effects the outcome as much as the loft and off set. I say that based on the putter never makes contact with the ground. (Or shouldn't.) That is what the major effect of lie is on irons. Toe down, grabs face opens, balls go right. Toe up, grabs shank, closes face, ball goes left. IMO I would say that the loft and offset would effect the average person more. Loft would depend. I have seen people putt that their first movement is to close the club head. This would de-loft the putter. So a higher loft putter might help them. Offset. If a person putts with their hands way ahead of the ball, pulling a lot of puts left. Then they need minimal offset. If a person tends to push puts, they need the offset to get their hands closer to the ball. I just, sort of, helped my wife fit a new putter. All I did was ask here which putter felt good to her, at address. I looked at how she held the putter. (IE flat to the ground, toe up, ect.) Then watched her putt a few balls. Had her try some offset and non-offset. In the end she would pull a lot of putts with the offset. She holds the putter VERY level to the ground. (She ended up with an Oddessey mallet.) I use a Ping Zing that has standard lie/loft. (Although my irons ar 5* up and 1 1/2" over.) I feel I have more control since it is minimal offset. I can open the club just slightly to push a putt or close it to try and pull.
  15. Any local golf smith should be able to accomplish what you are wanting. Phone book or google would be a good start. Once you find a good smith, keep them. This is a practice that is getting harder and harder to find a good trust worthy person.
  16. IMO I would say good 3 wood, set of irons, sandwedge, putter. As for what? It just depends on your swing, ball flight, and opinion. First don't by anything on name. Buy based on confidence and what you think looks appealing at address. If you don't like looking at them, you will never enjoy hitting them. Second, how do they feel when you hit them? Same principle as above. Third, do they fit your budget. In today's world that is a necessary evil. Take your time and get the opinion of the professionals. (IE Pro's not the guy who is trying to make an extra spiff off of you at the large chain store.) But that is just MHO
  17. I feel pretty confident hitting my 3 iron to 200-210. From there I am looking to purchase a 975F 16.5 to 18.5. It is amazing at how the lofts of clubs have changed so much in the past decade. All the clubs are so much stronger. Example, one of the announcers this weekend made a comment that Phil's three wood wa closer to 11 degree than it was anything else. No wonder they smoke a 3 wood out past the 275.
  18. I say if they want to emulate Tiger JUST DO IT! Just don't stand out at the 225 yrd marker, after "cutting" your driver 250 into the right ruff, waiting for the green to clear. I will yell FORE if it gets close. (GRIN) Swing that 3 wood to the hilt!
  19. I fired a 75 once at Lincoln Park East, during league. (Tips) This year fired an 81 at Aqua Canyon, Cedar Valley Oklahoma. (Tips) But the next week I go out and barley hold it under 100! Starting a league this week so I am hoping to get back to the days of the 75. (GRIN)
  20. My favorite "feel" and yet mid capper ball was the Maxfli Rev. red dot. But I just found out they are not producing these anymore. (Going instead to the LOCO branding. I just can't bring myself to hit a ball that says LOCO.) Next to this I would say the NXT Tour, but I struggle paying that much per dozen. So I am off to using the Nike SFT distance. Played a round the other day, managed to lose only 1 ball. They played very well off the irons/woods, and were very consistant off the putter.
  21. Let's see... PW 46 ISI +1 1/2 S2 54.5 ISI + 1 1/2 Lob 60 Address Std Just recently added the 54.5 and has made all the difference in the world from 100 in. Was always hitting half wedge or 3/4 something. Lob is mainly for green side and bunkers.
  22. Just found the forum and thought it might be a good place to get my golf talk out! (GRIN) If anyone else is in the OKC area we are starting a league on Friday nights. Send me a PM if interested.
  23. After watching today...Tiger is just the man. Magic or just plain good playing. What he does is not considered playing golf. I do give it up to Roco. I love his personality and the way he just is out playing around of golf. So it happens to be at Tori and the US Open. Roco could be the "ringer" in your scramble team or 2nd place in the US Open.
  24. Don't really have a "home" course. If I would have to say my favorite it would be Lincoln Park East, OKC and second Lincoln Park West. Both are in good shape.
