  1. Some familiar faces with new would be perfect. Steal Maltbie and/or Feherty away, plug in Duval with Brennaman or someone like Ernie Johnson.
  2. Another forgotten benefit to this.......no more Chris Berman being trotted out like a thoroughbred at a NASCAR race.
  3. I may be in the minority here, but I prefer Joe Buck to Jim Nantz (though it's kinda like saying I prefer the pain of stubbing my toe to a toothache). Fox didn't mess up when they grabbed the NFL, so I'm sure that this will work....just don't go grab that Chamblee character....can't stomach him.
  4. Instead of 14 comments, it'd be closer to 14 0 lol
  5. Seriously Shorty, which of these 2 are you?
  6. Sounds like some gamesmanship to me. I'd use the art of sarcasm to show that I was not pleased. This will also assist in helping me to keep my composure so that it won't affect me later in the round.
  7. Around these parts, Texas Star and Grapevine can put up a fight with any muni you can think of IMO.
  8. It's all about line of sight for me, though I tend to stand still off to the side.
  9. The thing with Bubba is that he seems to care so much about how his image is portrayed.....then he has episodes where he's acts quite petulant (see last yr. in France for another example). I'll readily admit that I don't care for him, not b/c he has blow ups but because he purposely tries to create an image that is probably far from what he really is.
  10. I'm inclined to agree with this. I prefer not to prop up athletes then bring them down, but something about Bubba rubs me the wrong way. It just seems like he went from a big, petulant golf star to a Mickleson-like image with a southern accent almost immediately (some say Phil's image is a bit manufactured too, but not my point here).
  11. Someone once said winning is the best deodorant. Bubba has always been like this, it was just the 'deodorant' of a green jacket (with the addition of him carefully crafting his image) that has kept this relatively hidden for the past couple of yrs.
  12. LSU fans have been jaded for about 10 yrs now. Les is a very good coach IMO. When I was in HS in Louisiana (late 90's), they were still struggling to get 8 win seasons. I'm thinking for the national title......somebody not named LSU or A&M; will beat Alabama. For some strange reason, I see it being Ohio St/Oklahoma.
  13. Pretty sure they made most of that back by selling the ad rights/on site tickets at a slightly higher than normal rate as some sort of 'novelty'.
  14. This was quite the 'who can top me' match (could've used another word but I digress) b/t Golfingdad and phan52. However, getting to the original post, I think Costas was using a bit of hyperbole. Since events of this type require more 'luxury' accommodations (for people like Costas himself), I'd compare an open at Merion more to having a Super Bowl at Lambeau or an All Star Game in a city like Memphis....places where big events are held, but it's a stretch logistically to pull off a super tier event. My question would be, why with all the courses in PA/NJ that could host an Open (Baltusrol, Oakmont, Adirondack, etc.) would they take a risk like Merion (yes I know the history, but you won't see me putting on a pair of 30 waist pants just because I looked awesome in them back in 1998)
  15. TPC may be too rich for my blood, but the Westin seems reasonable. Barton Creek, I may save for a trip with the lady.
  16. It's a good number of people on the board from North TX, never had any complaints, so I could try that. I'm thinking either San Antonio or Austin for starters.
  17. I'm thinking of going on a golf vacation solo due to not having a lot of golfing friends willing to go on a trip of this sort. Has anybody thought about this or done it before? Just soliciting some opinions before pulling the trigger.
  18. Maybe a slight re-wording would help, assuming the OP meant playing while there's golf on TV. And actually the back-nine talk would only apply to the Masters/US Open, since TNT shows early coverage of the PGA.
  19. I'd have to say only a compelling major (I generally DVR majors and go play due to the lack of people on the course) or something historic like a grand slam attempt or Tiger passing Jack. I have to say only on TV, because the USGA/PGA seems to not like picking venues in the Southwest for their majors
  20. Can I call BS on this. If not I will anyway. Is Woods a saint......NO. But you have managed to make the old guard seem like deities (despite their own issues) and show your own misguided beliefs or flat out denial of the issue shown to the board. This takes a special talent, one which I want no part of.
  21. No. But my experience with schoolyard joking (or playing the 'dozens', in some circles) lends credence to the following theory: Those with thin skin will joke about the following more often than not, because they know no better: 1) parents (especially deceased parents) 2) girlfriend/wife 3) stereotypes. Sergio, one who is known to have not only rabbit ears, but thin skin, fits this mold to a T, much more so than him being out and out raycess (spelled like this on purpose).
  22. So this means we'll have 2 TPC venues in the Metroplex.....neither of which host a regular tour event and neither of which will even be able to sniff a major.......Nice
  23. Nyet on Sergio. Golf is one of the few sports where you can have a hard and fast set of rules for the Hall of Fame. I like the LPGA's point system: LPGA Tour golfers are eligible through a point system. Since 1999, LPGA members automatically qualify for World Golf Hall of Fame membership when they meet these three criteria: Must be/have been an "active" LPGA Tour member for 10 years. Must have won/been awarded at least one of the following - an LPGA major championship, the Vare Trophy or Player of the Year honors; and Must have accumulated a total of 27 points, which are awarded as follows - one point for each LPGA official tournament win, two points for each LPGA major tournament win and one point for each Vare Trophy or Rolex Player of the Year honor earned. I'd probably make a Players/WGC event worth 1.5 points, but other than that this seems fair and would weed out a lot of riff raff
  24. I'm looking for any type of suggestions on how to go about starting up a golf league at my office, in particular, getting the word out and soliciting other golfers. I'm not sure if pinging an HR contact is a good idea and since I don't know too many golfers that work here, this may be the greatest challenge. Any suggestions about all aspects, though, would be appreciated.
