I got one several weeks back after taking advice from my pro about needing more loft on my old driver (was hitting a D1 7.5*) I went to my local Golf Galaxy and eventually was fitted for the G10 9* with the Prolaunch Red. I probably have 12-15 rounds on it now, and can tell you that I have very mixed feelings about it. The performance is much better then my D1 was when it comes to off center and mishits. The distance is probably a wash for those pure strikes. The feedback/feel has been very difficult for me to get comfortable with. The D1 just had a much purer (if that's a word) feel - but since you can't argue with results, nor score "feel" on the card - its most likely going to be in the bag a while. At least until I demo the 909...

I am a Dottie fan too. I watched her lay it to Annika a few years back on a Golf Channel replay the other night. She had game!

Long and straight is exactly what I need out of my driver. I am no where near good enough to expect consistent fades/draws off the box - so I wont even try them. Keeping it (findable) in the short grass for now is perfectly okay with me. Almost anything beats OB!

I just played in a tournament where the format was 5 nine hole matches across 5 flights - fully handicapped. My course handicap at the time was 20 and my partners was a 5 putting us in the flight with the 25 -35 combined cappers. One pair in our flight had a combined 34 and the guy with an 18 shot under 40 in all but one of the matches. At one point - he had 3 consecutive birdies for net eagles. Their 4 match point total was higher then any other team's 5 match total. Lot's of people complained, but nothing was done. It stunk - we finished second and beat them 5.5 to 3.5.

Typically I am very much against any type of censorship or excessive regulation, but I see the point with private clubs. You have to keep the people happy that pay the bills. If those happen to be the baby boomers with a more conservative view of what they want to see everyday around their course, then that's what you cater too. It's a sound business decision much moreso then discrimination.

So I finally got out with my new driver this past week. I recently switched from the Titleist D1 I had been playing (7.5*/VS Proto) largely in part to some swing changes I had been tinkering with, lost confidence in the D1, and someone offering me nearly what I paid for it a year ago (read cheapness). I went to my local Golfsmith and Golf Galaxy after not having any luck at my club and hit about everything on the shelves. It came down to the Ping and the Mizuno MP-600. I wound up with the G10 (9*) with the Prolaunch Red due to the additional forgiveness I felt like the Ping afforded me on my mishits. I have to admit that I wasn't real sure what to expect standing over the ball on number one. I had been struggling with fairways, and really was considering 3W on a long par 5 to open with. Thankfully, I stepped away, cleared my head, and went at it like I was supposed to - and it held up its end of the deal. I wound up the day hitting 10/13 fairways which was an all time best for me. I lost no balls (from my driver (lost one with a 5i on a par 3 no less)) and had the best day from the tee box I can recall. This is the first Ping I have ever owned aside from a putter. Its just one of those brands I have never been exposed to a great deal. The G10 offered tremendous forgiveness to about three swings I felt were really bad (bigtime toe hits) and allowed me to keep the ball in play. Eventually as my day came to the last of the long driving holes, I went after one and caught it perfectly. The feeling was every bit as pure as the Titleist with about 10 more yards of carry (speculation based on past drives on the hole). At least for now, it looks like the G10 is here to stay. It really is a great club, with a nice look at address. I would recommend it to any fast swinger struggling with less forgiving clubs. Hope this helps!

Go get fitted and see what you like. Don't get caught in brand hype. Put as much of that $ in lessons or practice as possible.

I believe even the video on the Winn Grip Site says 30 minutes. You could probably trust that as the rule.

There is no challenger for Tiger - but Kim may give it a run. He seems hungary.

The Differnce a New Putter Makes
julius06 replied to TheGolfingDetective's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I recently was fitted - and wow what a difference. Of course now I several putters laying around that have all been replaced. -
I have a putting track set up over some mirror tile in my office. Spend most of my conf calls putting.

i think he makes some sense. The bulk of my scoring is due to errant tee shots. However, its a lot easier for me to reduce strokes by spending a few hours learning to avoid three putts and chipping from all of those missed greens. My last round I had 2 birdies and a par - and shot a 100! That's one awful set of 15 holes. Dumped 4 balls in water, 2 more OB - All from the tees. btw - i did what any self respecting hack would do...bought a new driver. Obviously that was the problem...

Since I have just recently discovered the forum, I figured I would make a contribution that hopefully adds some value to someone. About 2 weeks back, I attended a 1 day scoring clinic for a cost of $375. I do want to preface this by saying that I have been hacking up the course for several years and had always tried to improve by practicing and "figuring it out myself". Let's just say I am more then a little behind schedule. Anyway, I picked up the short game bible and really began to subscribe to the system Pelz promotes for the short game. Figuring out repeatable swings and distances for clubs? Taping the info to shafts? That 's rocket science! (Sorry I couldn't resist) But seriously, it wasn't a concept I had ever really considered beyond a full swing. So I found out the Pelz school was doing a one day clinic at the Longaberger club in Ohio which is a few miles from the house, and I couldn't resist. It was a lot of money. However, for a guy like me who has never had formal instruction, or been taught how to practice I feel like it was worth every penny. I should also say that I went on a Tuesday and was one of only two people in a class with 2 instructors. The first four hours were spent on chipping and pitching with a little bit of sand time. After learning proper (better) technique, ball position, address, etc, I had a good baseline from which to practice going forward. The whole concept of using your pitching stance with a more forward ball position to get out of the sand has been a huge help to a segment of my game that once terrified me. The next four hours were spent with putting. Again, I had never been taught how to putt and had always just relied on natural touch and feel. After working through a few different grips (claw, lead hand low, traditional) I settled and learned a number of drills that have really helped me. I know the Pelz putting idealogy can be contested, but for me (at least for now) I am happy with the direction it has moved that direction of my game. Overall, I think if you are just beginning to get serious about your scoring and are really at a loss for how to get better - then I think its worth the cost. I really feel like those 8 hours gave me more then enough feedback and practice/drill challenges to work efficiently on my short game for quite sometime. On a side note - I practiced for about a week or so and went out to play nine. I wound up with a 44 which included a 9 on a par 5. When you have been playing to a 17-18 handicap, a number like that is exciting!

I agree with Jack and Pat Perez should be the poster child for his comments. It's not just the extreme elements that create whining - remember the Memorial last year when the sand traps were raked differently? That's all you heard about.

Thats hilarious!

There was a "worlds worst golfer" contest in the 80's I think where some guy had to hit down the cartpath to get around the hazard after dumping about 20 balls into the water on the 17th at Sawgrass (Nationally televised). There was an article about it recently in some golf mag I saw.

I suggest talking to the golf coach. Maybe play a round or two with him in advance of the trip or after. Try to negotiate an alternative. If you can exhibit commitment and the game to play, I am sure he would reserve a spot. Just be honest with the guy. If he doesnt appreciate that, you probably wont like playing for him anyway.

hybrid, different co's. ?

If you can hit it, and you are confident with it, who cares? I favor the nickent 3dx ironwoods for my hybrids, but my bag is like a flea market. Ping Driver, Titleist 3W, Nickent Hybrids, Mizuno Irons...
