Yup - I carry a pair of rain gloves (the black ones) and use them when it's really humid - they really come in handy keeping the grips from slipping.
-
It used to - then I started walking as much as possible and hitting the treadmill for a 10 degree incline walk while playing the Xbox at least once a week. The only issue I have now is thigh rash (I'm still kinda chunky), which is a real bitch.

I made a putter change two weeks ago to a Odyssey #5 and now the ball's going where it's supposed to go - I hit the ball on a string all day, putted well, and shot 71 yesterday and 70 today at the course where the Norfolk Am is being played next week. Put my money down and gonna roll the dice - wish me luck.

About 215y with a 4-iron on a par 5 last summer (6th hole at Deer Run Championship Course) for a double eagle. Never had a hole in one, but I think a double eagle's better.

I played Ocean View three times this year - twice during the Snowman invitational (our team was winning the championship flight when we forgot how to play golf the last four holes) and once earlier this summer. I think I paid for the repairs on William Carson's range picker (Peninsula Golf, the one across from K-Mart on Mercury) with all my broken clubs Are the greens at OV any better now? They sucked back in May/June.

Sorry - only been to NYC once in the past 7 years :)

I was 'that guy' when I went to the Pier 57 driving range in NYC last year. I ended up putting at least 5-10 balls in the East River with my 3-wood over the back fence (it's only 200y to the back fence but the fence is at least 8-10 stories high - if you hit a high sailing draw, you can clear it with a fairway wood!). It's also pretty cool to play GTA IV and see the driving range and there's a mission where you hit balls at people on the range to get points.

I'd prefer a putting lesson at this point. Time to crack my copy of Harvey Penick's Little Red Book and re-learn how to do it right.

I played 27 today and had some improvement - not necessarily score-wise, but I am starting to gain confidence with the new putter (when I line up and do things the right way, the ball goes where it's supposed to, as opposed to just jumping off the face like my old one). There's definitely a high frustration level there, as I basically made $50 in blitz donations Friday and Saturday. I think a lot of it boils down to not wanting to give money away on the course, which is what I've been doing the past few weeks.

Nope - only thing you can repair on your putting line are ball marks. Anything else is a two-stroke penalty.

I just finished a week of some of the most piss-poor golf since I started taking the game seriously again four years ago. Nice 76 today, nice 75 yesterday. The 75 yesterday included five three-putts and my old Rossie finding a watery grave in the pond by 18 at my home course. I went and got a new putter last night, putted pretty well with it today, but then I forgot how to get the ball to the green. I'm not even going to waste my money playing in the Norfolk City Am in two weeks. F**k it.

Angel Cabrera - hands down - would love to play a round with that dude.

I can't stand Corey Pavin (I think he's a sniveling little turd), but that being said, I think Gray was out of line for openly confronting him like that.

The Rusty C-bucket (from Entourage) is a classic as well

Driving: As good as it can get when it's on (can bust it 330+ and hit mid-irons into par 5's) - when it's off, I don't even bother hitting woods off the tee, even if it's a long par-4. I wish I could hit a fade, as it would be advantageous on many holes where I have to either throttle back or hit a 2-iron off the tee to avoid trouble. Mid to long irons: I usually strike the ball reasonably well but have a propensity to trap-draw mid and longer irons, resulting in missing long and left. Short irons/wedges: Unless I'm really stinking it up, I can get the ball inside 30 ft 75% of the time. Sand game: Sucks. Reason I missed the cut in Hampton Open. Pitch shots/lob wedge shots: I practice them all the damn time so I am pretty confident with them - just have to hit the target and assess the runway (green) required to stop the ball. Chipping: Serviceable - can usually get it inside 5 ft unless there's a funky green. Putting: Sucks worse than my sand game. Worst putter in the blitz. Since I have dinged up my putter from throwing it so damn much (I got it for $20 off ebay), it may be time to look at a new one.

I had the same thing happen to me in 1997 - my 7-iron buckled after I hit the shot, then snapped in my follow-through, cutting the top of my head. If anyone thinks I'm bullshitting, PM me and I will send you a pic of the scar (I'm bald anyway, so it's pretty easy to see).

I saw a guy in the group behind me drop the C-bomb out loud on 18 after missing a putt in a tournament. In front of the scorers desk and sponsor's tents (with at least 15-20 women there). Awkward.
-
I almost had a guy in my group give me a lobotomy - it was more my fault than his though. We both hooked our tee shots into another fairway, I was about 30y in front of him and further left. Thinking he was just going to punch it back up the fairway, I went up to my ball. He snap-hooked one about 10ft over my head. That would have really sucked.
-
If there's no one behind you, just backtrack and play some holes again - I'm sure no one is going to say anything to you about it, and more than likely the hole being held up will be clear by the time you get back. There's never a reason to intentionally try to harm someone by knowingly hitting over their group.
-
I blew the side of a cup out during a tournament with a ball (closest I've ever came to a hole in one).
-
+1 Also, if you have a slow group in front of you, be sure to hit into them every chance possible as well as shout obscenities at them when they're addressing the ball (i.e. 'Hurry the f*** up assclown!). Before anyone gets their shorts in a knot, this is 100% in jest.

Trust me, you didn't miss much outside of VLA/NRAO. Socorro is nothing more than a shit splatter on I-25 in between ABQ and El Paso. I have never seen a college town with townie problems like it before. The NMT campus is really nice, but once you're off campus, you're fair game for assaults by drunken/high on crack townies. Since it's a dry campus and the RA's and hall directors are dicks about drinking in the dorms, you have to go off-campus to go to any parties and/or go to the Capitol Bar. When I was there, the Cap was basically a front to sell crack, and I had townies pull guns on me twice when I was at parties (the first time was for knocking out a guy who hit a girl there and his dumbass friend pulled a 12-gauge on me - that was a life-changing experience). Also, there's a 2.5/1 male-female ratio and about a 10/1 male-attractive female ratio there, so every party you go to is pretty much a sausage fest. Again, great school, nice golf course, shit town. I haven't been there since '01, so maybe it's improved since then, but I really wish they could dig the campus up and set it down in Albuquerque.

I like Overton because he reminds me of myself - wears his emotions on a sleeve out there. If I remember correctly, there's a youtube clip of Appleby dropping the F-bomb on a live NBC telecast a few years back after he duck-hooked one into the water when he was in contention, so he's no golden child when it comes to that. I have to hand it to him for the 59 though.
